[The camera flicks on to some blurry glimpses of green and brown. There's dirt and earth, nearby plants, and Med'an's dirty white sleeve, before he manages to straighten it enough to reveal a young tree sitting in a cart in the ship's garden.]

...it's...for peaches. They said it should flower soon, if the garden is warm enough. I bought some other plants, too - [the camera jiggles slightly towards a few large pots nearby] - but this is the biggest thing.

I was going to ask Rosethorn or the head gardener for help, but I can't find either of them. [there's a motion that might be a small shrug.]

I can dig the hole for it, I might just need help....putting it in there.

I had some things I needed to put in there, so I could help you out with the other plants and take some of the work off your hands.

Going to be using them for anything specific?

The ones I got were medicinal.

[And being that he's on her good side she's more charmed than dry about the comment.]

I'll help you take care of those smaller ones anyway.

Well, we'll have to teach you which ones you don't touch with your bare hands.

I think you'll do fine. Don't worry about it.

I, ah... I believe Rosethorn is gone. I'm one of her roommates, but I haven't seen her in a few days now...

[ Which has Elsa looking concerned, but she supposes it's something she should mention if someone has been looking for Rosethorn. ]

I would offer assistance with moving the plant but I...don't think I would be a great help.

[ Most likely scenario, she ends up freezing the poor thing's roots. Information is about all she can offer. ]

Yes, it's strange not seeing her in our room, either. But if this means that she's gone home, then it may be a good thing.

[ Although she's unsure of what Rosethorn's situation in her home universe is. Considering that most people want to go home though, Elsa wants to look at it as a positive thing if she can. ]

You're welcome. And I'm sure there must be. With all of the new arrivals, surely some must have been assigned the job. ...Though they may know nothing about gardening at all.

I would imagine that she does.

[ That thought has a slight smile crossing Elsa's face, leaving her a bit more reassured as well. ]

I do hope that she's one who wanted to return home. Though I know there are some here who don't, or who have nothing to return to.

[ She wants to be positive though, so she'll try to stick to telling herself that things have to be good for Rosethorn. ]

Honestly, I have no experience with gardening. It doesn't seem complicated, though I believe you have to be careful with temperature and water levels, depending on specific plants... That may be a challenge for those who may be unfamiliar with the plants.

[ That last little bit is interesting, though! ]

You can? I had no idea. That's rather fascinating, though I can't say I've ever had much of an idea of how peanuts actually grow.

[ She considers this thoughtfully for a moment. ]

Perhaps you could find yourself a teacher here? I haven't heard of any shaman, but I certainly haven't met everyone, either. If not...there may be some useful books on gardening in the library?

[ At his embarrassment, Elsa merely smiles and waves it off as though it's nothing. ]

It seems a reasonable assumption to me. But we're all constantly learning new things, right? Peanuts don't grow in my part of the world back home so I may have never known that they grow in the ground.

...

Are you planting another tree in the garden? I may only be able to provide a 30% increase in lifting power but based on the distance between the top of the cart and the ground, that should be sufficient for the task.

[she is but a poor computer program that got lost and ended up in a fantasy setting. Don't think about it too much]

Aboard this vessel, I cannot say. Conventional wisdom indicates that the best place for fruit trees to grow lies in rich soil and adequate sunlight. As it seems that the two most knowledgeable in agriculture are no longer aboard this vessel with us, the best way to proceed is likely with careful observation.

[Fi doesn't sound uncertain, but she only understands the theory behind plants. She was a sword, after all, better suited to cutting plants than growing them]

There are other plants growing aboard this vessel. One can safely assume that the peach tree you've acquired may also be able to take root aboard, though whether it is capable of bearing fruit in such conditions remains undetermined.

With so many different people aboard, it would be strange if no one was at least passingly familiar with plants. If there isn't anyone available, the Library likely carries material that we can refer to.

[a bit of silence. She's unused to such.... Autonomy]

Shall I meet you at the gardens or would you like me to seek some research to help answer your questions?

[there's a long silence from the other end before Fi responds]

Initial request: assistance in placing the large plant within the ground. Will you be amending it to include seeking information on how to best proceed?

Very well. I will proceed to the library and begin searching for information what may be most beneficial to our task.
