You can feed them tuna. Often ants get most of their hydration from their food, so fruit is an especially good food to give them. Don't give them cinnamon.
They also prefer dark environments to build their tunneling nests in, so you'll have to provide them a home with both soil and food.
Some South American species of ants are dangerous. Why do you have ants?
[Took him long enough to get to that last question.]
fruit? what is that the person at the store said to fill it with soil if their insects i dont know if they are that....... they belonged to one of my friends hes gone now they ment a lot to him :(
Fruit are a staple of many animal diets. Plants use them to reproduce. A soft, usually sugary coating that grows around a seed and loosens and detaches from a plant when it's ripe. Different from a pod or a nut.
Apples are a pretty safe bet. A small piece of one of those should work and I know they're in the Kitchens.
Plants that usually provide fruit produce pollen and usually use animals or air- or water- to spread it that pollen to other flowers and impregnate them.
Sexual reproduction doesn't exactly match from species to species. Most of the ants you own are probably sterile females that can't reproduce at all. Only an ant queen can. They have to sustain the whole colony and the other ants have to provide for her so she can.
[He thinks that, in being asked to do these things, he's found a strange zen that he never thought he'd have in life. Where all circumstances are unpredictable. Like having to go make sure ants aren't having sex in a robot's living area.]
[Kaz steps outside his own room and considers the ridiculousness of this whole situation. But, he really can't think of anything more pressing to do.]
[So sure. He'll look at the ants. He knew enough about them, especially with all the semi-dangerous ones in Central America. Dealing with them had been important.]
Alright. Show me your new charges. I'll make sure they're behaving.
[It is then, and only then, that it occurs to Miller that the desk of a race of giant mechs would not be a human sized desk. And he doesn't know why this realization didn't hit him sooner.]
[Taking into consideration the history he (and his acquaintances) had with large robots of a different flavor, he couldn't help but appreciate the turn of narrative as he grabbed onto Riptide's hand and climbed into it. Then immediate crouched and held his hand on that huge thumb for security.]
[He can't even say this is the strangest day he's had lately but he'll just accept it as the strangest without being simultaneously strenuous or exhausting.]
[very carefully, riptide stands up straight then goes back into his room with miller in his hand.
it's not an especially large or interesting room - just the sort of mess you'd expect two lazy teenagers to live in. only huge.
he picks a large glowing pink cube up off the desk and carefully sets it down on the nearby berth, then puts his hand on the surface for miller to climb off. the ant farm is more human sized and how riptide got it back onto the ship without crushing it is anyone's guess.]
[There's a strange amount of pride that dictates he is moved with dignity rather than curling up into the tightest crouch as he can, because if Skull face can keep his balance in the hand of a mech goddammit Kaz can to.]
[That said, at least the ride is uneventful, as he gets out of Riptide's hand and goes over to the ant display.]
Huh... he got a lot of different types in this. [Partitioned, but it's still interesting enough that Miller's leaning down and looking pretty intently in on it.] Guess I'll be looking for several queens then. [Said sort of quietly as he's looking at the glass wall.]
Are you going to have someone help you take care of this? Seems like it might be a little difficult with fingers like those.
I was going to use my holo, but Bruce offered. I might ask him if I can move it to his lab, or something. I don't think they're necessarily safe in here.
...
Because my room mate is also really big. And kinda reckless.

Eventually if the get another Queen they'll be doing that. Some colonies have more than one.
[He feels a little guilty for being stealthy and trying to do the sex in his own room. Roommates might not want the sex happening there.]
