[It's her first post on the network. It won't be her last. Karen slides her fingers through her hair, obviously looking for a place to start.]

Okay, does anyone feel like they've actually adjusted to all of this? I know I haven't been here for long, and even when you know for a fact that there are aliens, when you've seen them come down and make a mess out of New York City, you just never expect to be taken on board an actual spaceship. [There's a nervous little laugh at that before she takes a deep breath.] But this happened, so...

[Karen looks directly at the video and smiles.]

So I guess I'll start. Uhm...for those I haven't met, my name is Karen Page. I'm from Vermont, originally, but I moved to New York. Hell's Kitchen - I know, it sounds like a terrible place, and it can be. But there's also some really good people. I work at a law firm there. I'm not a lawyer, I'm...I make coffee and answer phones and I'm the deciding vote in things like whether or not we're having pizza or Thai food for lunch.

[And it's worth noting that the more she talks about her life, the more her face lights up.]

So, who wants to tell me more about themselves? Like where you're from and what you do there, or anything - just anything.

[Conversation always makes for the best distraction. She catches her breath.]

I promise I'll listen.

You have a really great way of looking at it. And I guess we are able to see more and experience more than most of us would ever get the chance to.

We'll get home eventually, so let's just enjoy it, right?

I need to get back home, but there's a lot I can do here until that happens.

[ He had been a little more strident about being home before his brother calmed him, but even now he can't help but thinking about what's happening while he's gone. ]

Yeah, better to take something like this and use it to our advantage. Was your home like this place? We've had some bad stuff happen here but it helps that everyone around here is so helpful. Well, mostly, anyway. We're stuck here so we better figure it out together, huh?

It wasn't anything like this, not really. Not just counting the whole living in a spaceship thing.

[She gives him an awkward smile.]

Everyone that I've met here has been friendly, and helpful. And that was definitely true back home...but I also think that we had more people who weren't.

Yeah, I don't know that I even really get what a space ship is, but I'm getting there.

[ He doesn't understand how these things work, so it's just going to take time. He rubs at the back of his head, giving a little bit of a nervous laugh. ]

Yeah, I guess they have been pretty nice here. I'm just not used to it, I guess. Not that I'm looking for the bad ones, I don't know that there are any really bad people here. Probably for the better that there aren't. We're all just trying to get home. Most of us, anyway.
