[Cassandra glances over before focusing on her wind up music box, and begins slowly turning the handle. Music starts to play, a tune that may be familiar to people from Earth. She's not doing this to play music for everyone though, so she stops after a handful of seconds, looking thoughtful.]

It's funny. You hate home until you've been gone from it long enough, and then you get homesick and home is all you can think about. No matter how shitty it is, you forget about all of the bad things and only care about the people you left behind.

[The music box is picked up and clinched in her hand.]

Do you think it's possible to get a message back to someone? Has anyone tried communicating outside the ship yet? If things like this - [She drops the music box in her hand on the table she's sitting at.] can come through the Ingress to us, we have to be able to send things back through it.

[ Sam doesn't have many people he considers "close" but he has missed Quorra so much it's sometimes a physical ache. ]

There's no telling where or when those messages might show up. Our stuff has been scrambled around before, and throw timelines in the mix and that message could show up before you even leave.

As far as I know though no one has tried, yet. Are you?

Probably. It may not work, but it will make me feel better to try. Give me peace of mind, I guess. Is there anything you'd try sending back if you knew it would work?

Alan would want to send something to Lora, but even if he missed them both, Alan had been his only impetus to send a message home and he was here, so... ]

I wasn't asking the rest of the ship. I was asking you.

[She thinks that everyone here obviously is going to have an opinion about whether or not they would send something back, and their own reasons for having their opinion. She hopes he doesn't mind pressing a little further, if only to keep the conversation rolling. It's a nice distraction from her thoughts.]

Why wouldn't you? Is it because you're enjoying things here?

No. I just don't have anyone that would want a message.

But if you are sending a message, how do you plan to go about it? It's not like you are talking about just firing off a text.

It would basically be throwing something into the void and hoping it got to the right people eventually. It would be more for peace of mind than anything, you know? A way to find closure so I can move on here.

But what are you planning on doing? Are you writing s letter?

I'm not going to send anything. Even if it was possible to send stuff back through that thing, there's no way to tell where or when a letter would end up.

Nothing? That's a pretty sudden about-face.

I want to send something, but realize it's not going to be a possibility. At least not yet. I need more time to figure out how to control where and when the message would go.

But you just admitted it was more for your own peace of mind. And anyway; if we could end up here, there's nothing saying your message wouldn't get through.

There isn't. But people have pointed out that it's stupid to get my hopes up.

Anyway, who are you? I'm Cassandra.

Then don't get your hopes up. I say you're coming at it all wrong. Use an anchor. Like an object that might mean something to the person you're trying to reach. Since we don't really get how time works, that one is harder. But I doubt plain paper would survive.

All I have to send back is the music box. They'd know it was from me if they saw it, though. There's not any way plain paper would survive, which is why I need to drop the idea for now.
