[Eric sits poised at his desk , balancing his MID so that he could capture himself in the video feed while also flipping open a file pad and holding a pen with his free hand. He looks troubled, not quite himself... it might be the recent events that'd been happening to the crew or it could be the fact that he was resorting himself to this- going public for help with a work situation. A situation that he didn't exactly know how to keep a handle on. Not when his interaction with Chara had been so difficult thus far.

He clears his throat before speaking, his tone even but on the right side of intensely serious.] Good afternoon fellow crew members. As some of you are aware my name is Eric Dufosset and I'm charged with the psychiatric needs of the people aboard this ship. [He pauses, tapping the pen just momentarily against the pad.] And I have a somewhat delicate request to make.

[He levels a glance at the screen as if he was actually probing for something.] I would like anyone who knows Chara to speak with me... in particular those who knew of them before they came here. Yes, going public with this could be viewed as somewhat uncouth; however I find myself at a crossroads where the only option is the necessary evil. [He quietens slightly, speaking mostly to himself.] I need to find out if there's some direction to maneuver and for that I need opinions of Chara that are not my own. Opinions from people who aren't simply coming up against a wall of rage and defiance, feel free to speak privately with me on this matter and you will have my utmost discretion, I thank you in advance for any help in this matter.

[The good news is that they've frustrated him into trying new things. The bad news? They've frustrated him into trying new things. Chara doesn't see the MID posting right away, but when they do they steal off to one side, completely engrossed.]

Not telling everyone about their problems would be a good way to start.

Maybe find someone who's good at their job? You don't seem to be.

[Robin is, justifiably she feels, upset at the idea of Chara's dirty laundry being poured out where all the ship can see. Both because the same thing literally just happened to her and also because Chara is her crewmate on the tourist. You've got to look out for people like that, if you want them to look out for you.]

[Eric can't help but be amused by this one.] I hate to have to be the one to tell you but Chara's problems were aired rather publicly long before I came into the picture- vividly, too. Were you not here when they were broadcasted across everyone's MID murdering someone in plain sight of security footage in the interest of judgement?

I may not be, in your opinion, good at my job. Perhaps I have stepped on toes... however I seek only testimonials deliberately outside of what was at the time the only public knowledge given to me. As far as the average person might be concerned Chara is, simply put, just a murderer. For this reason alone I seek to consult other people. For the same reason I haven't mention anything discussed between Chara and myself. Their mandatory therapy with me was public ruling, after all. As such, this has all been in the interest of the public. I'm not attempting to tarnish their reputation but more so find myself swayed by an external influence that hasn't been forced to face them under such difficult circumstances.

[This is the first she's heard of it - although she's not especially surprised or concerned about this turn of events. She saw how Chara took care of the Tourist's original owner, after all, and that lack of hesitation doesn't come without some practice.]

Thats a lot of words to explain why you're so bad at your job, but not many to explain why I should think you aren't.

Well, I imagine that may have came as a bit of a shock. The public announcement of murders and crew member crime is very much the done thing aboard this ship.

Well thankfully I wasn't requesting information with the goal of stroking my ego but rather to... well, request information. This wouldn't be the first time my methods have been called into question and it certainly won't be the last.

[Especially considering Eric usually used a lot of witchcraft with his patients to achieve the results he needed and for once he wasn't relying on those methods.]

It isn't in my interests to convince anyone I'm particularly talented within my field when there are greater issues at hand.

[There's probably something to be said for what Eric's trying to do here; something that with the cooperation of people aboard the ship might actually lead to something good for Chara. Some sort of direction, or a methodolgy to help them.

But it also pisses him off.]

[By now Eric was coming to terms with the fact that people were angry. Apparently when an entire ship votes a problem into someone else's hands it becomes suddenly a private matter; even if he hadn't discussed any particulars about the case yet. He takes in the angry face before a mask of cold calculation slips over his features.] No. It was completely in jest. [It was easy, summoning a facade... after all, before he was every a Psychiatrist he had been a politician.]

Yeah, real funny.

[Ratchet's tone is far more obviously laced with sarcasm, and his expression doesn't soften.]

How about this; my opinion, as someone who really doesn't think its that hard to talk to a ten year old without pissing them off? Don't do what you're doing.

[Maybe it's a little more complex then that. On some level Ratchet knows his experience with Chara isn't everyone's; that maybe he doesn't drag out the rage and defiance the way other figures in Chara's life do, and that other people need to take different routes. But Chara's his friend and right now he isn't terribly concerned with those details.]

[Rinzler's skimmed the directory enough to know this user's function before it spells it out. "Counselor". One of those assigned to take charge of him when he's released. What little data he's been provided indicates some attempt at reprogramming by talking instead of code. It doesn't sound very effective, but Rinzler still opens up the feed to assess.

By the end? He's even less impressed. At least, with User: Eric_Dufosset. Chara's talent, he appreciates; having made a programmer give up on all its practiced methods of control takes skill. But the idea that this user is so utterly unable to force compliance that it resorts to asking for leverage from the public feed? Pathetic. Any program so unable to accomplish its own function would be wiped and replaced, all the faster if they were stupid enough to admit it.

Still, at least Rinzler supposes he can take this as a warning. If it's this willing to compel Chara's secrets from everyone they've spoken to, there's no reason to believe Rinzler will be allowed privacy for his own. He saves the data and keeps an eye on the feeds.]

[Congratulations, Eric, you have (though Chara's previous complaints to their sibling) earned yourself an actual disappointed look! Amazing, who knew it was possible?]

[...a lot of people, actually, but shhhhhhh.]

It's not right to tell you a secret that they don't wanna tell you.

[Eric frowns at that... and then again at the fact this child looks almost similar to Chara.] I'm not looking for secrets, believe me, just opinions.

You asked them stuff an' they don't wanna tell. They tell me things because they trust me.

[He's not sure if this post is the best idea, but hey. He's not the professional here, and surely this Eric knows what they're doing?]

[Eric's tone changes completely to one of interest rather than something cold.] You do? [Because this was what he needed. Someone who could explain the particulars of Chara's world and give him some insight.] The Underground? Is that your home?

Naturally! Well, my home is in Snowdin, but Snowdin is part of the Underground. It was a fine place to live, but I'm glad some of us escaped!

[But that's not really the topic at hand, is it?.]

That said, she's also not terribly familiar with mental health care protocol, or any kind of sophisticated style of speech, so most of his good intentions goes right over her head.]

What the Hell are you talking about? You saying you want that person's friends and family to spill everything for you 'cause they won't?

You just sound like a stalker with some crazy obsession asking strangers about that kind of thing, y'know.

I didn't ask for 'everything' I asked for 'something'. And I'm not Chara's stalker- I'm their doctor. This isn't a tactic I'd have liked to employ. I disagree with forced therapy; it doesn't work. But we all have our tasks to perform and the circumstances surrounding this one make it impossible.

Look, buddy, a doctor's one of two things: The guy that fixes you up 'cause you came in with a scraped knee, or that puts you back together while you're laying half dead with your guts spilled out.

See the difference between that, and what you're doing here? 'Course you do. You said it yourself already. You're trying to rearrange the parts of somebody who never asked for your help to your satisfaction.

Or, hey, maybe you can just answer this: How many times have you saved a person who didn't want it? 'Cause the most I've seen is idiots using it as an excuse to self destruct even faster.

what is it you want to know?

Anything really: what your relationship is with Chara, did you know them before this, did they actually have friends and allies, a family perhaps. More importantly is the emotions they present, mainly anger, an effect of our forced interaction or is it a genuine reflection of their character? [Because he was hoping the troubles he was suffering were just because of the punishment, if they weren't it would be quite worrying.]

if anyone actually offers up info, they might as well be putting a target on their back. keep that in mind, pal. don't ask questions of people who don't know what they're signing up for.

Did you ask their permission for this, or at the very least inform them before making a public request?

[Rosethorn can sympathize with the desire to do so. She struggles to come up with any way to deal with Chara, and she does think something needs to be done. For Chara's own sake as well as that of everyone they might attack.

Getting Chara into the hands of a mindhealer was her priority, but she doesn't think a public discussion is going to make them any more tractable or likely to open up. In fact, she thinks Eric has just sabotaged any chance he had of making progress.]

I have a feeling you've just made your job that much more difficult.

[Eric didn't need to appear on a video any more, didn't feel the need to exhibit the frustration mounting on his face. People were angry, of course, but none of them seemed to understand the situation he found himself in.

Nothing he'd done so far worked and he held on to the idea that healing mentally had to be a willing choice- not something decided upon by a public vote.

That and he wasn't asking for the world, just opinions, it was hard judging Chara based on his own world when he didn't have a scrap of knowledge of the world Chara came from- some of the things he had done would be considered immoral to others who had no knowledge of things at home.] Granted, I did not ask- but it would have been futile if I had. At best I'd have gotten silence. [And he chuckles drily.] My job couldn't get any more difficult in this instance... I won't discuss what had transpired between us but rest assured it amounts to very little.

It would seem that you have chosen a poor time to ask such a question, Eric Dufosset. Tension aboard the ship appears to be at an increased level following recent events. [she primarily means the murders, though it sounds like some other things might be causing distress too.

The first call is abruptly ended before a second one is sent, this one is set to a private channel (seems Fi figured out the controls after she started talking, whoops)]

However, based on what you have said, I believe there is a 95% likelihood you are doing this not to infringe on the privacy of another, which appears to be the conclusion many have drawn, but to try and find a solution. Were it within my capabilities, I would be willing to offer you help but it would appear that we both lack the data necessary to see this task through.

... It may be too late to rectify your original request.

They're really... small. Short. Got that weird fuzzy stuff on their head you humans tend to have. Sometimes their face goes a bit red when they're unhappy.
