video; forward dated to the 14th
[The video feed turns on, and it's focused on Elle's face (and, without her hat, this means that the scar on her forehead is very easy to see). The backdrop? One of the Moro dorm rooms, though Elle has taken great pains to make sure the beds aren't visible, so it's mostly wall and door frame in the shot.]
Uhh... so. [A strained pause.] The past couple of weeks gave me the impression that it isn't normal to walk into your bedroom and find a dead body. You know. Unlike some places I could name. [S/o to the wasteland.] And yet... [Despite the topic she's talking about, and the fact her words could sound joking, she seems pretty calm and her voice is flat with the tone of "another annoying Tuesday."]
So, uh. Yeah. One of my roommates is... yeah. Dead. Violently so. I know someone from the Medbay is gonna wanna come down here and get the body, but... Whose job is it to track down the person responsible? Are there cops or something? I'm willing to do anything that needs doing, but... I don't wanna, I don't know. Overstep my boundaries or anything, I guess. Or get in the way.
[ooc: RETCON MENTIONS OF VARRICK'S NAME to Cannae, I entirely forgot he's using a fake name.]

In cases like these, I don't bounds are that much to worry about. Is it someone you live with or did someone leave you a present like a psychotic pet?
no subject
It's one of my roommates. I don't know if I should say "fortunately," because it's not like that's a good thing, but... At least it decreases the likelihood of me having a super creepy stalker. Hopefully.

If the door is closed when you get here, it probably won't be because I've been murdered, too, between now and then. It's just because it's probably, maybe, safer to keep it closed. Just knock or whatever.
Action
Cleaning lady.
[She is not known for her sensitivity.]
[She has a floating gurney with her, and a body bag. She wonders what to expect, knows it can't be worse than anything else she's seen, but guesses that it's going to be bad for the ship no matter who it is.]
cw injury descriptions
Hey. [She moves out of the way pretty quickly, pressing her back against the wall by the door, resuming the spot where she'd been waiting.] He's... well. [She gestures uselessly towards the body. It's pretty obvious where it is.
Based on the position of Varrick's body, it seems he hasn't been moved from where he fell. His arm is visibly broken, there's a shallow cut on his side, and a deep stab wound to his chest, deep enough to cut into his chest cavity. Inspection of the wounds will reveal that they were made with a curved blade. There is blood all over the floor.]

[She scanned all around Varrick, making sure she had the scene impeccably recorded, before she put away the scanner and started to move the body into a bag.]
I'll take him to Captain Curre. Not sure how the system of revival works but she's the one who has to handle it. We'll ask him what happened if it goes through.
no subject
She bites her lower lip for a moment before speaking again.] What'll happen if... if it doesn't? [A beat.] He has... He has -- a pet. [Bubbles, the brightscale wyrm.]
no subject
There's not much we can do beyond make the attempt. If the attempt doesn't work, at least know we did what we could.
[She moved the body onto the gurney, and stared up at Elle from her crouched position.] I'm not miss congeniality, but I want people to survive. I'll do what I can for you.
audio
I'll be right there. Moro deck, room 9?
no subject
Yeah, that's right.
audio -> action
[The turian arrives a couple minutes later, decked out in his armor sans helmet and stinking of grease and hot metals. He knocks once.]
Elle?
action
So. Better safe than sorry.
Still, when there's a knock on the door and she hears Nihlus' voice, she doesn't hesitate in opening it. She's expecting him and Medbay, so she's standing near the door. She's wearing her uniform, but she's got her heavy leather backpack on, and her combat knife on her belt instead of in a boot, so... She's still as ready as she can be.]
Hey. [She still seems pretty calm, though she's giving the murder scene a wide berth.]
no subject
[He peers inside but won't enter until Elle indicates it's alright for him to do so. He notes the pack and the knife and then the rest of the room. It smells of blood, both fresh and burnt.]
Medical will be here soon to move the body. I'd like to take a scan of the scene before I go. Any ideas who might be the murderer and where they went?
no subject
I have no idea who could've done it, though, or where they might've gone. It looks like they tried wiping their hands -- and maybe their weapon? -- off on the sheets over here. [She points at what she's talking about.] And I tried to get a look at the wounds, just to get some idea of what the murder weapon was? I didn't get too close or interfere with the body or anything, I just looked, but... It's not like any knife I've seen.
no subject
The poor sap died quickly at least from the looks of things.]
I'm sorry your first few days here had to end like this.
[Elle, was, of course the first suspect on the list, but Nihlus quickly dismisses it for the time being. The foot and hand prints were too large for her, and the wounds did not, in fact, match up with the knife she had when he steps closer to inspect the body.
The body was also still warm when he takes additional scans of it, and Elle wouldn't have had much time to get change out of or get rid of bloodied clothes and weapons before making her call.
Which leaves her other roommates.]
Have you made contact with Saunders or Rinzler at all?
[He remembers the watching the program light up his disc in the simulation room and his expression darkens.]
no subject
Nihlus' apology earns a weak shrug from Elle. She... well. The longer she's here with the body, the more the reality of it is sinking in -- the more her personal emotions are starting to arise. She and Varrick had been getting along so well... But -- She needs to not dwell on this too much. He's going to be okay, right? Curre can bring him back. So, she doesn't need to think about that.
She shakes her head to answer his question.] Not since this morning. I got back from my shift not too long ago.
no subject
[That's about the moment J's text goes up on the Network.
Nihlus stops and stares at it, his expression flattening into unreadable neutrality.]
Stay here and wait for Doctor Yewll.
[Nihlus is out of the door before Elle could answer. It's colder than he liked, but he's not sure how much time he has.]
no subject
He was looking at his MID just before he left, so Elle checks hers, too, once he's gone.
... shit. Shit. That description...
Rinzler?
But... Why?
She's security, too, technically. But Nihlus was right. She still needs to tell Doctor Yewll about... And it's not like she -- has ammo. She wouldn't be able to help much in the fight. She can do her most good here.
... shit.]
no subject
[He confirms with an even tone though the crease in his brows discards the notion that he's unaffected by the news.]
Are you in danger? Do you need help?
no subject
[But it's occurring to her that the only weapon she has on her that's gonna be any kind of reliable is... her knives. Because she doesn't have the ammo for her shotgun. Wwwwelp.]
... if they come back, I might be in trouble, [she admits.] I dunno if they will. It's hard to tell what exactly went down in here, let alone why...
1/2
[A murderer? Then it wasn't an accidental death.]
2/2
no subject
Yeah, you're probably right, [she admits sheepishly.] I'm in Moro #009.

[Video] --> [Action]
[He answers as he flies off to her location.
Some time had passed since the message had first been posted and his first reading of it. From her responses it seemed she was in little danger. Still, he kept to his promise and arrived a handful of minutes later.
He phases through the wall - passing through it as if he were a ghost - and enters the room hovering a foot in the air before touching down on the ground.]
no subject
Elle was expecting a knock on the door, not someone -- walking through the wall. She startles badly, hand dropping to her waist where her combat knife is resting before she can even think about it. But -- No. No, she recognizes this person as the one who offered to come and stay with her. She lifts her hand again, both of them, to run them down her face. Jesus.]
H... Hi.
no subject
.....
[He's unsure what to make of it. Still, he follows that greeting with one of his own, acknowledging her presence with a nod of his head.]
Hello. [A pause.] Are you... okay?
no subject
[ That's a pretty reasonable reaction, right? ]
no subject
Elle starts to fidget with the sleeves of her uniform.] He seemed kind of grumpy, but... I thought he was nice enough. I don't know why this might've happened.
no subject
[ She's not in security in any capacity, but she can still maybe help? Ish? Sort of? ]
no subject
He... He should be okay, though. Someone from the Medbay already came and picked him up... So, he can -- They can help him. Bring him back, right? That's... possible here? Somehow? [She'd heard about it before all this happened, but... She didn't think it'd come up so damn soon. And she doesn't entirely get how it works.]
no subject
[ Oh... Wow. She has no idea, actually, but that doesn't seem like a thing she should actually say right now. She tries not to look too uncertain about this. She is an Experienced Super-Person who totally knows how to comfort people. ]
Right. I mean, I've heard about it, but I haven't been here long enough, but that's, like, totally a thing that's happened before.
*PRETEND I DIDN'T SAY VARRICK UP THERE, should've said Cannae
... but, she'd be lying to say she wasn't shaken, anyway. She just -- needs to keep it from... taking over. Panicking about this whole thing... That wouldn't... help anyone. Elle takes a deep breath.]
NO PROB
So, it'll totally be okay. And this is a space ship, so we're totally going to catch the person who did it and... I don't know, stick them in jail or whatever.
no subject
I'm... glad there's -- a justice system, I guess you call it. I know it sounds weird, I guess, but... I dunno. It's not all that common where I'm from. There are towns that don't even have a sheriff or anything. [There are a lot of messed up things that happen in the wasteland and the perpetrators experience no consequences at all.]
no subject
[It's a terribly tasteless joke, but the man's dead so there's nothing that will help him now, and Deacon has a tendency to respond to tragedy with humor. It keeps him sane. Sane-ish.]
Do you need a new place to stay for a while, somewhere where killers are slightly less likely to get in? If you sleep nights like a normal person, we might be able to work out a schedule. [Because Deacon mostly doesn't sleep at night.]
no subject
It doesn't last long, though, because he... brings up a good point.] You know, I... I didn't even think about that. I... maybe. Yeah. I... probably should take you up on that.
no subject
[And tell his roommates, if they're awake, something that probably won't be the truth.]
