Okay, so. I have some matters I'd like to bring up. If you've not met me, I'm Doc Yewll. I'm not always going to be nice to you but I will try to fix what's wrong with you. There are other doctors that have more patience than me, refer to them if you have to.
On to business.
The Med Bay still needs some repair. I'd say with a little help everything could be up and running within a few days but it does mean people with technical parts and anyone in need of surgery are going to hold off for treatment. Useful salvage to that end would be a miracle.
Also that station's infirmary has a neat trick of offering up complete medical histories. If you would be willing, please send me what you can of yours privately. I'm not going to sneak around and try to get it, but if I have a complete medical run down it means I can better help you in the future if related problems come up. Just don't grab anyone else's if that's the case. Just yours. I want absolute information consent here.

I've noticed some issues with your physiology that I would like to discuss with you in private. Either message me or come by Med Bay.

That still doesn't explain how you got a hold of my DNA profile.
[ What the hell did she see there? ]

I'm from a manufactured race. I have a good eye for designer genes. Even the shtako ones.
I'd rather do this face to face.

Granted, he should know better by now than to hope for anything. ]
Fine. You're at the med bay?

[ True to his word, Snake heads over from his room to the medical bay. It's not an area that he visits often, but he has seen Meh on their shared kitchen duty days. She usually does the least work possible and then scuttles away, though, so they haven't spoken much.
She makes no secret of the fact that she isn't human, and how could she, with the way that she looks? It's something that Snake's adjusted to by now, so nothing but vague displeasure (for the situation, rather than for her) shows on his face as he walks into the main area. ]
... You called?
[ Well, she texted, but details. ]

[She pulls away from what she's doing at a table, and pushes a pair of goggles up on her head.]
Alright. Come on.
[She heads for a private room. Barely even waits for David to get in there. She closes the door.]
I was comparing DNA on individuals on board that look alike for similar characteristics after discovering someone had strong evidence of cellular damage. That's how I figured it out.
You want to sit down for the next part? [She figures he's not the fainting couch sort.]

Especially when Meh starts to go on about DNA and cellular damage. Between the way that Snake was created and his infection with FOXDIE, it probably shouldn't come as a surprise that there's something wrong with him.
At her question, though, he purses his lips and shakes his head, shifting back against the nearest wall instead. ]
Go on.

It's something I can fix if I have the time and go ahead to develop a treatment. [A go-ahead from him.] And the man who sourced your genes has agreed to donate a sample to correct the alteration. [She actually doesn't call him his "father", because that's not how this works in her experience. Every other Indogene like her isn't her sibling, or her child. Even if Liquid seemed pretty set on them being brothers.]
It seems when the other clone approached him he was willing to play ball.

All the same, Snake holds his hands out in front of him and stares at the lines in his palms. Liquid had hinted at this once, but whether he'd understood just how bad it was, Snake couldn't say. Apparently Liquid hadn't done anything about it until Dr. Yewll brought it to his attention, but...
Big Boss really donated his biological material to help them? Snake frowns, not having expected that given that the man had at two separate points orchestrated plans to kill him.
He looks up eventually, studying Meh with a close eye as he asks: ] What's in it for you?
no subject
[She says it bluntly, and leans back against the counter with her arms crossed.]
And if you want anything more personal than that- I'm a member of a manufactured slave race and I don't like people to serve purposes. [They still have feelings, lives. Even if she doesn't let anyone get close to her anymore, like hell will she commit someone constructed to someone else's will.] And I'm a war vet with a lot to make up for.
no subject
Snake would have said as much, if she hadn't added those two other details. Just how many races exist out in the vast universe of space that were made as slaves or clones, as worker drones or vessels for other people? Snake swallows around a tightness in his throat, his chest burning with bile.
As a soldier who isn't quite a veteran, but has plenty he needs to make up for, Snake finally concedes with a small nod. ]
All right. So how do you fix it?
no subject
Usually gene therapy is done using a vector, either a retrovirus or adenovirus. But there's already something in there that I'm not sure about and have to have a better look at. So I'll probably go the route of stem cells.
Neither are particularly good times while they're taking hold, but they'd be healthier for you in the long run.
In the meantime, you got an explanation for what that other nasty stuff is in the mix?
no subject
He tilts his head from side to side as he picks out his words. ]
It's a retrovirus that was injected into me without my knowing before I went on a mission. It was a weapon in its own right, because it was designed to infect that people I came into contact with on that mission and induce heart attacks.
I was told there's not really any way to get it out of me, but if you've got ideas...
[ Snake shrugs. He's willing to hear her out at this point. ]

[Doc Yewll has a ridiculous amount of knowledge, that's true. Such is the pain of a high powered alien brain that had to do its dirtiest during a violent, planetary war. But the woman was especially good at her pathogens, much to the regret of humanity.]
[There's always a way to beat it. And her chosen way to beat it would be with the hosts own body.]
I'll have a closer look at it.
And if I got the all clear I'll start working on that.
no subject
Then again, he doesn't have much to lose at this point and if she wants to take a crack at it, then he he may as well let her.
At her implied question, he shrugs with one shoulder. ] Yeah, sure. You need anything else? Vials of blood or something?
[ He doesn't really care what she takes from him, so long as she doesn't put any other mysterious substances into his system. ]
no subject
[She wants to make sure all the clones and their donors are on board before she gets working on it. She has Big Boss, but she doesn't have Shepard.]
no subject
He pushes off of the wall and is about to take his leave, but hesitates to make sure she doesn't have anything more to say. ]
