02 | Video; Morning of the 21st

I ended up getting a lot of stuff this time around.

[The video is trained on a box, Peter's using his other hand to pull out what looks like a bulletin board.]

And when I saw this, I thought it wasn't meant for me. Bad delivery, you know? Particularly when I saw all these old pictures of my friend on it.

[The video pans over a few of the photographs, all of the resident cafe barista, Allison. It stops on the one of Allison in her Sailor Moon costume.]

But then I saw this and knew someone out there was giving me the perfect thing to share with the rest of you. Really help your day get started before that first cup of coffee; give you something other than that girl behind the counter to smile at. God bless that stupid machine, right?

Okay, I'm a little confused. You're saying your in high school? And less blood? What are you talking about?

[He sticks out his tongue, laughs.] I did. I'm not ashamed. Might as well get in as much immaturity as I can in the last year before adulthood, right?

before getting here of course! the last place i was in. i'm getting the distinct impression that it's not your run of the mill high school, but can you blame a guy for not noticing at first? i can't say i've ever been through a normal education system.

that's the spirit. enjoy that armour of youth before society arbitrarily decides that you're 'too old' to be doing such things.

And yeah. Blood shed isn't a normal part of education. The only bad things you get from school is bullies and boredom.

well, they did have a lot in common... but i did say the 'last place i was in' and not 'home', didn't i? really, the excuse of milking your immaturity for all it's worth shouldn't be overused; it looses effectiveness.

the more i hear about how normal schools ought to be, the livelier the last place i was in sounds. but it isn't as if this is any better. still stuck in uniforms for one thing.

doesn't sound like you're letting that stop you though. such things are arbitrary for a reason after all

I was just checking. Some people have been places before and some haven't, and it's worth it to make it clear.

japanese. i imagine it would be a little less covered in blood if it were a religious school. but skirts though. does it really matter that much?

Skirts matter a lot. Don't underestimate of some hot girl in a short skirt. [He pauses.] But blood? Sounds more like you were in a horror movie than a school.

Not at all dude. School is meant to be boring not bloody. The worst thing about school is the long hours and detention.

None of your business when you were the one stuck there?

well, we had that too. couldn't leave the building, detention was a drag... really, the more i hear about it the more i'm realizing how terrible the education system is. what a shame!

what a lonely way of putting it! i'd compare it a little with this ship... though i guess some people like to be more hands on.

In general? Yeah, it is. Too many rules, teaching stuff that no one cares about. Lame. You know they're trying to set up a school here?

there are children here, aren't there? i thought i saw a couple while i was wandering around. gotta cram as much as you can into that critical period! not that i would know... like the education system, i can't say i've got a clear idea of what a 'normal' upbringing would entail.

explanation:

you make it sound like i was the only one there against my will, when there was a good chunk of transfer students suffering through the terrible curriculum with me. but you know how it is... it's so hard for people to not want to meddle in other people's affairs.

Yeah, we got a few. But, dude. We're in space. Not like anything about this is normal for them anyway. Let the kids run free, I say. If kidnapping isn't a good excuse to skip class, then what is?

Depends on what you mean by leave? To get off and explore the worlds? Yeah. This place gets small quick. Everyone takes the chance to get off for a while. But if you mean leave as in go back home? Not really.

then that's it; i don't particularly care if this ship ever makes it back to it's home planet and fixes that buggy transporter. it's all the same in the end. held against our wills... or maybe just held onto? you get used to keeping your opinions to yourself when your hosts turn out to be liars across the board.

there's better living quarters and amenities here, so i can't complain.

Another one that doesn't trust the captains. [There's no judgement in his voice, despite the words. He didn't particularly trust the staff here either; he just didn't see a point in doing anything yet.] You'll find people are pretty loud about their opinions here. No need to keep them inside, dude.

[He laughs at the last part.] We do have some pretty sweet stuff on board. And the food's pretty good.

well, the captains seem in over their heads, but at least they talk to us. no, they're not who i'm thinking of.
