Personnel Officer Miles Vorkosigan here. Due to the recent influx of new crewmembers onto the Moira, my job has gotten far busier and more complex by about a factor of ten. Not that I mind putting a few extra hours in, but this is no longer a one-man job, let alone for a man with two jobs. So, with that in mind, there are two new Personnel Officer postings available for any who might be interested in assisting with the workload. If you've got a knack for paperwork and find desk jockeying an appealing career opportunity, I'd be glad to have you on board. At any rate, anyone who's interested in the job should take a look at the posting and get in touch with the captains.

And there's one other matter: it seems that last month I received yet another mystery package from the postal Russian roulette that is the Ingress and, unsurprisingly, it does not belong to me.

But I have a sneaking suspicion some of these belong to someone -- many someones -- on the ship. In fact, I'd bet you Betan dollars that more than a few of you will find something that belongs to you in that crate. It's in the cargo bay if you want to have a look. Vorkosigan out.

Good luck with the hunt for new applicants. Hopefully whoever does apply will be able to shoulder the responsibility.

[Sadly enough, if Pepper were to go for it she'd probably be pretty perfect at it. But that would mean abandoning her position as Chief Morale Officer, which in too many ways feels like a defeat for her.]

[ ah, pepper, his favorite chief morale officer. a remark that actually counts for something, considering she hasn't been the only one, although fiona hadn't exactly set a very high bar. ]

Thank you, Miss Potts. I harbor the same hope, although I hardly intend to shove off all the work on some other poor sod. Mostly, I'd just like a nap.

I didn't think you would. But the burden of that job isn't just in the tasks, but also the potential lashing out that could come if enough people are discontent with the situation, and see your office as the avenue to the Captains.

[Since the Captains themselves come off as aloof, to say the least.]

Of course, we did get a First Mate recently, so that might alleviate some of the pressure. And ideally, I can figure out this morale business enough to prevent the issue all together.

But I do hope that whatever comes of it, you get that sleep you're looking for soon.

Ah, yes -- Elizabeth DeWitt is a good friend of mine, actually. I have every confidence in her that she'll make a stellar First Mate.

I've seen my fair share of discontent, and...been the source of it, from time to time. Don't worry, I've been much higher in the chain of command and taken much more shit. I can handle it alright. How are you finding your job, by the way?

I've yet to speak to her myself, although I'm planning on changing that soon.

[Well. He may not be the only one, never mind the number of people who have been here longer and endured so much more.]

Nice to hear you're prepared for it, at any rate.

Ill-defined, uncertain, and on the whole unsatisfying. [WELL HE ASKED.] I feel like I'm putting bandaids on gaping wounds, almost. Emiri, Ceta, not to mention everything that came before it--and the best ideas I've gotten are setting up a few parties or maybe a gambling night to take the edge off.

Hate to say it, but the job's always going to be that way. Morale is always under threat, Miss Potts. Frankly, I don't think they could've picked someone better for the job -- although I'll admit, I do think you could use a proper assistant. You don't have one, do you?

I think parties are an excellent idea, although I would recommend leaving mind-altering substances out of any of yours. Gambling is always a great distraction, although we don't exactly use money around here.
