Money is a cornerstone of a successful society. Right now we have to barter for favors if there's a job that needs done. It's easy to lose track of who owes who for what. Physical currency solves this problem and makes it easier to determine how much a unit of cost (an hour of work) should be worth.
Those of us who are working on the planet are being paid in physical currency. I think that once we return to the ship, we should all agree to honor this currency for goods and services rendered.

Make sure to cash out for these coins so we all have the same thing. They have cloth bills but I don't think those are worth shit. We'll handle distribution for the people who aren't working once we figure out how much money we have on board.

[ Though she knows there were a lot of stories put out there about who was the one going after AIs. She found out about them in the days after, when she had a chance to go over some of the transmissions that had been going out in her absence. And the Director had had the nerve to come back to her asking for help. ]
York and I both did, actually. We came back later to try to clean up some of the mess the Director had made of things.

[ This is all news to him, and that's clear enough in the higher tone in his voice when he speaks. For a few seconds afterwards, he's speechless.
Maine tried to steal Gamma. Tex and York abandoned the Project. And the Director made a mess of... what? So many questions flow through his mind, so many that it nearly gives him a headache. ]
What're you talking about? Things were going fine, weren't they? I mean, they were before-- [ Hesitation at the thought of Epsilon. ] ...Before my implantation. Just how much did I miss while I was out?

It's not important, Wash. None of that affects us here, does it?
[ If he doesn't remember hitting the button that led to her expiring, then there's no point in trying to hash it out. But that doesn't mean she has to be his buddy, either. ]

[ In fact, he'd really really like to know what she's talking about. But Texas? Is not someone he's going to push, not in any sense of the word. If she wants him to drop it, he will.
Glancing off to the side a touch awkwardly, Wash purses his lips. For some reason, it's difficult, in a way, to keep looking at her. Yet at the same time, it's all he wants to do. ]
...What's the last thing you remember, then?
[ He can already tell she's ahead of him along their timeline, but he can't deny his curiosity. ]

None of it was fine and I'm not going to sit here and talk to you about it if that's what you saw.
[ With that she sends him one final piercing look through the feed and snaps it off. If he responds again, he's only going to get texts in return. ]

[ That's the last thing he gets out (desperately) before she hangs up.
Okay, so. That was unexpected. He sits there for a minute, dumbfounded by her reaction. Maybe things hadn't been great (
they were bad he knows they were bad but he can't accept, can't let that knowledge through--), but they'd still been functioning, right? Yeah, stuff was getting a little...weird toward the last of what he really remembers, but is it really worth her getting that mad at him over it?For a few minutes, he seriously considers dropping things there. He doesn't like the idea of agitating Agent Texas of all people. But she's the only person here that he knows from home, and he doesn't want to be on bad terms with her--not that he's sure what kind of terms they've ever really been on, aside from, like, she's never beat him up or anything.
So he takes to sending her a text, something she can easily ignore if she really wants to. ]
Look-- I'm sorry. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. The last I remember from home is really fuzzy as it is, so maybe I'm not seeing something I should be.
You don't have to tell me what you remember. You don't have to tell me anything. But I don't want to be off on a bad foot with you. You're the only other person here from the same universe as me, and if we're not even talking... I don't know. It'd feel awkward. And I'd really like to have someone around that I actually know to some extent.
We don't have to talk about Freelancer if you don't want to. --Actually, I'd be really okay if we didn't. Gives me a headache for some reason. But I'd like to be able to talk to you.
Feel free to ignore me though if that's what you'd really prefer. I don't really get it, but I'll understand. I guess.
[ ...That feels grossly cheesy and he's worried it might come off kind of passive aggressive, but he doesn't mean it that way. He just...he really likes the idea of not being alone here--not that he hasn't made any friends already, but it's not quite the same as having someone from the same place as you.
Hopefully she'll take some pity on him or something. He doesn't want to lose out on
AllisonTexas. To a degree that confuses him, even. He feels almost desperate to get her to talk to him again. But he tries to ignore that. It rifles up things he's not ready or willing to deal with. ]

[ ...He probably shouldn't be joking. ]
I don't know. Anything. I just don't want to be not talking. We were...kind of friends, weren't we? I mean, we never really talked, but you never kicked my ass, either, so we're at least acquaintances. I'd like a chance to get to be friends!
Or at the very least have someone from home that I can commiserate with around here.

Okay.

Great! Thank you.
So, I'll see you around, then?
[ And not have to be afraid for any reason? ]
