Money is a cornerstone of a successful society. Right now we have to barter for favors if there's a job that needs done. It's easy to lose track of who owes who for what. Physical currency solves this problem and makes it easier to determine how much a unit of cost (an hour of work) should be worth.
Those of us who are working on the planet are being paid in physical currency. I think that once we return to the ship, we should all agree to honor this currency for goods and services rendered.

Make sure to cash out for these coins so we all have the same thing. They have cloth bills but I don't think those are worth shit. We'll handle distribution for the people who aren't working once we figure out how much money we have on board.

[Then maybe there could be more immediate accountability than simply barter. Still Pepper's well aware of the problems that come with an economy. What starts off as something basic turns into a far more complex creature when reality is applied.]
You'd also have to address the notion of our current "jobs" with whatever got set up. The Captains have put something of a cooperative system in place, particularly where the mess hall and cleaning duties are concerned. While it would be nice to have more motivation beyond doing it so everyone else doesn't suffer, again, it would take agreement from the entire crew.
If you don't mind me asking, is there someone who owes you favors that hasn't paid up, so to speak? This doesn't seem like the type of idea that would just come to someone without a reason.

[ And money. Tex in general just really likes money. ]

[One who also happens to like money, even if she understands all the problems that can come with it.]
And in the short-term, I guess it must feel pretty good to be rewarded for a hard day's work.
