You know, this kind of transdimensional grab bag usually sets off a few alarm bells. Integrity of the space time continuum, multiples of the same person in the same space affecting Reality As We Know It, blah blah blah. This is pretty low key. Like hi, welcome to your new home, here's a really ugly uniform, a job and a room assignment. Don't mind the teenagers necking in your room, that's just a thing.

[ Who's bitter, not her. ]

One thing I do like? Crew roster. Nice, simple way to check to see if there's anyone familiar; archenemies, familiar code names, family members from different dimensions who might not know who you are, ex-boyfriends who need to get their teeth punched in... [ She was making a point here. ]

Some of you need to work on your code names, though. Like I get being part of a legacy, but we have like five different Snakes. Five. [ More like three, but she's not gonna let a silly thing like facts stop her. ] That's way too many snakes for this ship. Venom I get, it sounds like someone who probably runs around Gotham and changes their alignment every day of the week, but whatever, I guess if Catwoman can, you can too. Live the dream. The other two need to flip a coin or something.

Or, wild idea, but go with me on this: pick another animal, be your own hero and/or villain, break free of the legacy cycle! You know who never looks stressed out? Heroes who aren't part of a legacy.

[ Creepy is one way to put it. Snake's the product of all that, but he can't really hold it against this girl for talking about it that way. It is creepy and he's had to make his peace with that. ]

More like 50. [ Come on, you're making him feel old.

That question does cause his mouth to twitch with the suggestion of a smile. ] Naked. [ Yes, she heard right, Naked Snake. ]

[ Are you not old, Snake. But that's secondary to the slowly spreading grin on Kara's face. ]

[ Snake raises his eyebrows and then shrugs. It's not like he came up with it. He hadn't even been an idea back then. ]

[ Wait. Wait. ]

Is it Ishmael.

Ishmael?

[ Snake frowns in thought for a moment. It's not a name he's heard used for Big Boss before, but Venom had told him to call him Ahab. And given the connection between the two of them, that would make sense. It seems like the sort of confusing naming system that their kind is known for. ]

Could be. He's gone by a lot of different names over the years.

[ It is entierly possible that she's wrong, but the fact that she might also be right is good enough for her. Say hello to the biggest most shit eating grin. ]

Because Venom is Ahab, so duh, right? This is almost worth getting kidnapped to another universe, wow.

Well, I'm glad that someone's getting a kick out of it.

[ Snake misses when he was the only one with that title here. It's only a matter of time before some sort of attempted murder takes place. ]

What's your name, kid?

[ Since they should probably steer away from the topic of his screwed up family. ]

I'm learning to enjoy the little things in life during difficult times, this is helping.

[ She's gonna give some weird old guy hell and it's gonna be great. ]

Kara. Or I guess, Supergirl since I've been giving you guys crap about your names.

[ If something good can come out of this, then that's something. It doesn't necessarily make Snake feel better about the way that his estranged family members descended on him, though.

When she offers first her name and then her title, Snake scoffs. ] Yeah, you're not exactly in a position to be judging, there.

So what, that's part of a legacy too? [ She'd implied as much, but he has no idea what it means in her case. ]

Whatever, Solid. [ But considering how much shit she's been giving them, she can take a little teasing. ]

Yeah, kind of. I didn't take over the mantle or anything, but there were some people who were running around being Super for years before I got to Earth.

[ Snake's really not used to being called by the first part of his nickname; his face twitches for a split second, but it's subtle. ]

Where are you originally from, then? If not Earth.

[ She looks human, but Snake's already learned how deceiving someone's appearance can be here. ]

[ Subtelties are usually lost on Kara, but also she's a teenager looking for trouble and yeah. She sees that twitch. It gets Snake a beatific smile. ]

Krypton. Planet and galaxy far far away that doesn't actually exist anymore.

[ It means nothing to him, but Snake makes a note of the name all the same. Who knows when it might come up again?

It doesn't sound like there's any chance they'll go there in their travels, though.

Snake keeps his expression neutral, yet curious. ] What happened to it? [ She didn't have to mention that it no longer existed, so he has to assume she doesn't mind being questioned about it. ]

It blew up.

Or I guess shook apart? I'm not really clear on the exact science, but it's all just floating rocks in space now.

[ Snake probably shouldn't be surprised. He'd already heard about another planet that broke apart, apparently it's a more common occurrence than he would have thought.

It's difficult to tell if Kara's upset about it and trying to play it off, or if she doesn't have much of a connection to her home. ]

And you were already on Earth by that point, right?

[ She gave up an entire city to a delusional dictator and his "mother" on the vain hope of finding fragments of her world. But for just about every other person she's ever met, Krypton is a distant memory at best. She's playing it off to the hilt, but it slips a little when she frowns. ]

Uh, no. I was on planet. My pod was launched right before total collapse. The shock waves knocked it off course and I got stuck in an asteroid field in stasis for 30 years. Then I landed on Earth.

[ Playing it off is something that Snake is all too familiar with. Not just because he's known for it, but because he's seen countless other soldiers do the same thing. Sometimes an event is so tragic that there's no way to talk directly (or seriously) about it. ]

A pod? Like an escape pod? So was there warning for what happened?

[ She survived, and maybe that's what mattered most, but Snake doubts that she sees it that way. ]

How long have you been on Earth?

Some, yeah. No one really paid attention though. Until, you know... [ Until it was too late. ]

Two years.

[ Two years. Not nearly long enough for her to consider it home, then. Snake's brow furrows for a moment. He really isn't good with this kind of thing, but he has to say something. ]

I'm sorry. [ He never really had a home, but losing your whole planet like that would be hell to go through. ]

Yeah, well. [ It doesn't help to actually hear, but she doesn't hold it against him. Like what do you even say when a total stranger drops something like that? Way to spaz out, Kara. ] It's. You know. It sucks, but it's whatever.

Anyway, I don't think we're even in the same galaxy as either Krypton or Earth anymore.

[ Snake seriously doubts that it's "whatever," but he isn't going to push the issue. He already forced Kara to talk about a tough subject, he doesn't need to press salt into the wound on top of it.

At her next comment, he shrugs one shoulder. ] You'd know better than me, but yeah, doesn't seem like it. It'd be nice if the captains gave us some kind of map so we knew how long the trip would be to... wherever we're going.
