[ There’s a faint note of desperation to her voice, and she wears the harried look of someone acutely allergic to the spotlight. ]

I’m Alice, I’m one of three crew-members assigned to general education on the ship. Agent Texas and — uh — Queen Medusalith are your two other instructor contacts.

I don’t really have a title, but if you want some thematic consistency, you can always make one up. I sort of like ‘Esquire’, but that’s not exactly a prefix, is it?

We’re looking to get the ball rolling on some classes, but before we do that, we need to get an idea of where people are at and what everyone wants to learn.

If you could fill out this survey, I’d really appreciate it. In fact, I’m going to randomly pick someone who completes it and give them a prize. It’s a really, really, really cool one, you don’t want to miss out.

Also. Between the three of us, we should be able to cover the basics. But we’ll also be looking for volunteers to fill in the gaps. I’ve seen there’s a lot of interest in that already, which is. Um. Heartening.

So. If there are some special skills you’d like to share with the crew, we can help you to set up and schedule a class. Instructors will be run through a brief interview, to make sure you’re not like, a violently raging psychopath. 

[ She holds up a finger, and abruptly winces. ]

On the violent psychopathy note, we do have a couple of combat trainers aboard? So anything related to self-defense, murder, or a combo of the two should be run through them and not us. I assume. I just got here.

I am capable of teaching combat, but I will not waste my time doing so with anyone who does not require training in specialized, unique abilities. Someone else can bother with hand-to-hand and weaponry.

My bad. And it looks, um, like they've got people bothering with all the mundane stuff. By unique abilities, do you mean, like. Superpowers? Or...

[ She's careful to sound tentative, a little dubious. The character she's playing at has only been recently introduced to the concept. ]

But given some of the people on this ship, I'm sure you wouldn't lack for any students. Can you, uh. How do you even train that kind of thing?

[ Brutally hard work, in her experience. But that comes with the territory. ]

There's now a training room to assist in defense training. Not just in fighting, but survival in dangerous situations. That's the goal I've always pursued in this.

If anyone wants to learn defense and survival techniques? That's what I do. But for the higher tier stuff, you're going to want a medic around. It's not easy.

I think I walked past that. Looked cool — very Holodeck. It can actually hurt you, then? Do you go in with them?

I don't, no. I observe from the outside. MID turns it off if the user's vitals drop, but it is capable of hurting people.

Scenarios won't remain static, either. A repeat of the same program will provide different circumstances, including environmental obstacles.

Could someone go in with like, a whole bunch of people at once? That would make for some killer dodgeball games.

[ Dodgeball isn't Alice's immediate interest, but it doesn't do to show that to the public network. Even if Miller's rapidly becoming the sort of contact she'd like to keep. ]

But no, that's cool. And then you work with them on... figuring out what to train? Or. I guess what I'm asking is if there's a minimum skill range to it all.

[She'll get on to the actual point of Alice's announcement in a minute or two - but when you just woke up and you're checking the network because somehow it got really busy lately and checking when you wake up is just your routine now, and then suddenly someone you know and once hit in the face with a small animal is right there...sometimes all you have the mental wherewithal for is starting up the MID in all your maskless, hair-on-end glory and spluttering:]

I've filled out both of the forms, but I was wondering who exactly the two combat trainers are? I have a lot of experience in hand to hand fighting and I'd like to help out there too, if I can.

I think there's more than two — they're split up over a bunch of stuff. Weapons, defense, stuff like that. Let's see...
