VIDEO/TEXT;

[A new video post pings on your cool new communication device! It opens automatically, but seems to display the option for text-based, too, if you'd prefer not to have to watch or listen. An attachment is also present. The camera clicks on, centered on the head and shoulders of a woman with a military bearing, at ease—but no less businesslike.]

Hello all, and thank you for taking the time to listen to me. I've provided a text transcription, for those who'd prefer it.

To those of you who don't know me, my name is Shepard. Before Thisavrou, I lived on board the Moira, the ship many of us were pulled to—but before the Moira, I grew up on, and lived aboard ships and man-made satellites my entire life—and if there's one thing they've always consistently needed, it's routine maintenance, and reliable, ship or station-wide communication.

I know many of you have already taken the repair and renewal of this station into your own hands, and that just goes to show what an incredible group of people we have on board right now. The teamwork that went into the development of the new communication devices are a clear tribute to that effort. But while a lot of this has been accomplished simply via word-of-mouth, going forward, it would be good to have a public list of who is working on what, and where.

The goal is to compile a clear record of where people are at—so we know what areas require more help, or who people can contact if they want to volunteer to assist. What I'm not looking to do is push people into roles they're not comfortable with taking—this is all volunteer-based, to build our current home into something better.

So: here's the categories and areas I have so far: General station cleanup, including organization, pest control, and so on. Sanitation and life support, including air, water, and waste maintenance. Medical, including cryo technology. Technology and engineering, including maintenance and improvements. Bartering block occupants. Greenhouse and garden, including maintenance and improvements. General security, including guarding, shifts rota and patrols. Sports and leisure, including the bar, gym, and sundry entertainment areas.

Please feel free to add to that, and please let me know if I've forgotten anything. Once again, I am not any kind of authority on this—this is strictly a publicly-available volunteer chart, and I am merely providing the space for us to organize it in one place. You don't have to take part, or even acknowledge me in the slightest. I have avoided filling out any names ahead of time to allow people to place themselves where they feel they fit best, or where they have already been active.

Once again, thank you for your time, and I hope to hear from all of you soon. If you have any questions, comments, or otherwise, feel free to message me directly, or come by and talk to me in person. I currently reside in Sector... [There's a pause—had she ever said it out loud?—but there's no change in her professional demeanor as she continues:] ...Sad Cat, Unit 8-10. I look forward to meeting with you.

[The video clicks off, but the text transcription stays visible—as does the attached sheet with all the categories she listed. The blanks go on and on, inviting you to fill them out yourself, with zero limits—adding other people you know, or volunteering yourself!]

[OOC: HERE'S THAT CHART AGAIN, and if you just want to fill it out without replying—no issue at all! This is just Shepard's own on-network attempt to organize some widely-visible revival efforts to help get people involved! If any major changes or decisions go down, remember to let the mods know over here!]

Not exactly. I'm looking mostly for stories or anything that carries a similar tone to our situation- legends, of sorts, if that makes sense. So far, I haven't found anything yet.

Not from what I can tell. Some similarities exist in sections, but nothing that I'd consider enough to even look at a second time.

I thought the same.

If it pertains to legends or lore, yes. It's... a hobby of mine, I suppose. I find them interesting.

That depends on what you're interested in. I have many.

[He sends all three in separate messages, so Shepard can read them in her spare time, if she wants.]

Sainte Georgios, otherwise known as Saint George, was well known for his courtesy and his kindness in assisting others. A man who traveled the land in the name of Christianity, he was meant to represent the Crusaders during the medieval times. As a knight, it was his duty to help people he came across, as well as spread his faith.

On one such venture he came across a small kingdom with an incredibly large lake. Upon his arrival there, he spoke with the citizens, looking for shelter. Most, however, told him to stay away- as the lake was the home of a plague-bringing dragon. In order to appease him, they fed him two sheep every day, until there were no more sheep left. Afraid for their lives, they began to feed him their children, until at last they came to take the King's daughter. Distraught with grief, the King begged his people to spare her, saying that he would give away all his gold and his wealth in order to keep her safe. His people would not listen and took her, dressing the princess in a wedding gown to wait for the dragon by the edge of her lake.

Saint George, moved by the King's grief and the fear of this dragon, followed her. By the lake she stood and wept, and the knight kept her company, speaking with her at length. When the dragon finally awoke and rose from the water, Saint George fought the great beast. He managed to pierce its scales and wound it, and he told the princess to grab her garter and tie it around the dragon's neck. When she did so, the dragon became complacent, and both Saint George and the princess went back into the kingdom, taking the dragon with them. Saint George told the king that if he and his people would convert to Christianity, he would slay the dragon and end the plague that consumed the town. The king agreed, and Saint George slew it- resulting in thousands of conversions on that day. From where the dragon died, a holy shrine to Saint Mary was built, and a fountain that brings forth healing water came from there.

To this day, it is said the fountain and the shrine still remain.

In the Shinto religion, there was a god by the name of Susano. Susano was a god of sea and storms, and therefore his temper was known to be legendary. There are many stories where he was in constant arguments and his sister, the goddess Amaterasu. Eventually, one such argument led to him to having such a fit that he destroyed her rice fields, hurled a skinned pony at her loom, and killed one of her attendants. Furious and grieving, Amaterasu secluded herself in a heavenly cave, therefore hiding the sun itself for a long time. As a result, Susano was banished from Heaven.

Unable to return home, he came to a small province called Izumo, coming across a weeping couple with their daughter. When he asked why they were in great sorrow, they explained that previously, they had eight daughters. This poor girl here was their last- her other seven sisters had been devoured by an eight-headed dragon named Yamata no Orochi each year, and now it was her turn. Wishing to help, Susano asked for their daughter to be given to him, and turned her into a comb, which he placed in his hair. Then he told the couple to brew eight large tubs of sake and wait for the dragon's coming. When the dragon came, it found the tubs and drank them all, needing to sleep afterwards. Susano took his sword and killed the serpent, splitting it into many pieces. By the time he came to the tail, his sword was notched, and so he split the tail open to find another sword within.

This sword was given to him as a way of reconciliation between him and Amaterasu, and he was allowed to return to Heaven once more.

[This one takes a lot longer; not only because of so much of what he has to say, but because he spends so much of his time debating on sending it at all.

After all, this isn't just a legend- this one is about his life.]

In the Nibelungenlied, there lies a story of a man known as Siegfried. Born into royalty as a prince, he was a man who firmly believed that it was his duty to help anyone who asked of him. He ignored his seat on the throne in favor of becoming a knight, traveling across the Netherlands in an effort to assist those he met.

Among the many deeds he did for the people, his greatest achievement was slaying Fafnir. Fafnir was a legendary dragon capable of many things, and with a hate for the world that could rival any apocalypse. Many, many knights went to try and kill him, and all of them perished under his fire and his fury. If anything, the most terrifying thing about him was that Fafnir was said to be unkillable. No one could stop him. He razed villages and made kingdoms fear for their safety, and speaking his name would send fear through even the bravest knight's heart.

When Siegfried heard of this dragon, he swore to kill it. He took his holy sword, Balmung- a greatsword he had taken from a pair of brothers from Nibelhiem who could not agree on anything- and went off in search of him. It was easy enough to find his cavern, but to fight against the creature? That was difficult. They both came close to killing each other- but in the end, Siegfried was victorious. Afterwards, he searched the cavern for treasure, and came upon the Rheingold. A treasure that promised incredible wealth and luxury for whoever claimed it, it also came with a heavy price; if spent, it would bring about great tragedy to its owner. Passed through too many hands, and the Rheingold promised inevitable destruction upon the world. Having riches of his own and wishing no ill fate to befall the world, he claimed the gold as his own, to prevent potential problems. Then, taking Fafnir's blood, he bathed in it and drank some of it, becoming immortal.

However, while bathing, a leaf from a lime tree stuck to his back, making that area the only place of vulnerability. Thus began his descent into tragedy.

A few years later, he heard word of a beautiful maiden named Kreimhild, a princess whom he desperately wished to meet. Siegfried traveled to her kingdom and asked her brother, Gunther, for her hand. After completing several trials, they were wed. A while later, Gunther asked Siegfried for help in securing the hand of Brunhilde, the queen of Iceland, and Siegfried agreed. He traveled to the kingdom and won her through several efforts, and in order to make sure her powers were subdued, he laid with her for a night. It was never meant with any malice, only a desire to help; but in the end, it would bring about great shame and his ruin.

Of course, word traveled quickly in the courts of royalty, and many months later, Kreimhild and Brunhilde went into a quarrel, putting their two countries on the brink of war. Fearing the death of so many, and feeling as if he was the source of the problem, Siegfried consented himself to die. Believing that if he were gone, the crisis would be averted, he went to his best friend Hagen and confided in him about his one vulnerability. Hagen then had a special blade created and fulfilled his best friend's wishes, and killed him. Siegfried did not resist, only thanked him in return.

However, the Rheingold brings about tragedy; and it had not fulfilled all it could. After his death, Kreimhild was overcome with complete grief and agony, and vowed revenge upon her slain husband. She sold her soul to the devil and took Balmung, Siegfried's sword, and slayed both Hagen and her brother. She was only stopped later by a chivalrous knight, but all of the Netherlands mourned the death of a man they had never wanted to die, only to be their hero.

In the end, the Rheingold completed the tragedy it was known for, and Siegfried's kindness was his downfall.

As I've said, it's a hobby I'm rather fond of.

I'd be interested to hear what you think sometime.
