[Behold. This is not your everyday pleasant, charming, and well-spoken Dorian, noooo -- say hello to your not-so-friendly neighborhood irascible Dorian. He’s not above sarcasm and friendly banter, but short tempered is rare for someone so practical and cordial…and yet.]
So we’re the bad guys, the root of all suffering and evil blah, blah, blah…now where have I heard this tune before? Oh right, partiality as old as the Maker himself…and yet they’re not above lying, manipulating, torture, brutality, and theft [theft gets its own special emphasis for very specific reasons] they don’t kill, they don’t imprison, such unique little snowflakes they are. I’m certainly not seeing any of their own in here for transgressions committed, because they’ve been flawless hosts I suspect. Venhedis kaffan vas.
[He’s so irritated that it’s difficult to tease his sarcasm apart from his true irritation.]
Of course, I could be wrong, the little pack of Savrii that assaulted me unprovoked could have been a fever dream, it’s possible. Not bloody likely. But possible.
[So what’s brought on so much agitation? Well, for anyone who knows the mage, they know he’s something of a drunkard and a drunkard without wine is being forced to dry out. Right now, he’s only agitated…small mercies.]
As an aside has anyone taken stock of all of our resources, they’re still feeding us and supplying us with some things, yes? I need more than that to keep myself occupied -- books, cards, music, writing materials…any-bloody-thing really.
[His voice isn't shaking at all.]

just saying

but if magic's all you got going for you
who the hell are you without it

you're the guy whining about being bored though.
no subject
And no, boredom is not what I am whining about, it is merely a consequence of my true complaints.
no subject
so you don't like being the bad guy then? it's annoying for you?
no subject
Yes, yes it is annoying because I am always portrayed as the evil magister by virtue of being a Tevinter mage.

if no one dies, you haven't tried hard enough
and oh
well
ever thought of just accepting that and using that perception against them? i don't mean fighting to make that image fixed
i mean being the most evil piece of shit you can be, just directed at them, whoever they are

They are the south, and no, I wouldn't push the full force of Tevinter's worst traits in a place where I am vastly outnumbered, especially when I'm trying to convince an entire nation that not everyone in Tevinter feels the same way or acts the same way. When you're trying to do that charm, wit, and eloquence become far more important than how many people you can magic to death.
Especially in a place where magic is feared and demonized.

why does it matter so much to you that they like you, though? that the south changes its mind about magical people and become accepting? people in general aren't very accepting. people are horrible. you're likely gonna die before you see any real peace happening between your guys and their guys.
[ you know, not to sound so cynical... ]

Not that I am asking for your opinion on a political landscape you clearly know nothing about, but since you seem so keen to shoot them out of your arse. I went south for two reasons: the first reason was that my mentor was abusing time magic that I helped him create. The second reason was that a darkspawn with aspirations of godhood ripped a hole in the sky that threatened the entire world. In cases such as these it is important for people to come together and work together for mutual survival, yes? So I joined an organization that was geared towards the mutual survival of our world and they happened to be located in the south. Fortunately for me they were accepting all kinds, but that doesn't mean that people don't treat me like I smell of boiled cabbage.
So why is it important that they like me? It's important that they like me because I've come to set the record straight about mages and about my homeland for the benifit of the entire world. It's important that the south change their opinion on mages because they treat them like we're being treated now, but far worse: rounded up in cages, made Tranquil against their will, anulled as an easy solution for dealing with an entire circle. The Rite of Anulment, by the way, is basically genocide, it's what they do to mage towers when they've lost control of one or two mages, they kill the lot.
