[Wash appears on the screen, grudgingly out of armour, his face drawn and pinched around the mouth. He looks exhausted, eyes sunken and dark with exhaustion. Arriving here is just one more thing that seems specifically designed to fuck up his life.]
My name is Ag- [No, he's not Agent Washington anymore is he? He's not with the UNSC. He's not with project Freelancer. He's not anything.] My name is Washington.
They said that- [He can't believe he's saying this. His life is a fucking joke and his death will probably be the punchline. Until then, he is stuck dealing with this shit. Assuming he hasn't snapped altogether. That's also a possibility.]
They said that I have been sucked in through some kind of bullshit dimension hopping. [Yes, his teeth are gritted as he says it.] I'm looking for anyone who knows what the UNSC is.
[It's not that he wants to find anyone from home. There's no-one he cares for left alive and even then... well, he tries not to think about them too much. But he just needs someone to remind him that that wasn't all fictional.]

[ Someone could drive themselves nuts trying to get to the bottom of it all, but Snake has mainly backed off from searching for answers for those kind of specifics. No one's going to tell them shit, and at some point you've got to let it go.
Not that he's going to tell Wash that. ]
Anyway, a while back, we were roommates. [ -- he announces, just like that. ]
[Sounds downright messed up but he's sure that everyone here already knows that.
And there's the catch. The second person who's said that they remember him. That they know him. That's weird.]
Really? How did that work out?
Well enough. We had an understanding.
[ By which he means that because they were cut from a similar cloth, they'd been able to exist in each other's space without it being a huge problem. Not such a bad match-up. ]
You had cats, I had a dog. [ Wash wasn't a huge fan of the dog. Snake doesn't mention that particular detail. ] Now you can choose who you live with, or just live alone.
The best kind of roommate.
[People who just want to be left alone. The best sort of person to share space with.]
I had a cat?
[That sounds like someone who was very settled. It's been a long time since he thought he might get comfortable enough to have a pet.]
[ How does he explain this? Snake goes quiet for a few seconds, but whatever, he may as well just offer the truth. ]
Back on the ship we were traveling on, there was a gardens area. [ Inside the ship, yes. It had been a pretty peaceful place, all things considered. ] There was a tree in there that... sprouted kittens. Tiny ones. You ended up adopting a few.
[ There's a wave of guilt when Snake realizes he has no idea what happened to them, after Wash left and the Moira went down. ]
What were they called?
[He can't help but have a sort of morbid curiosity about it.
He listens to the rest of the story, makes a face at the explanation.]
...really? They grew on trees? That-
This place is fucked up.
I... don't really remember their names.
[ There had been a lot of them, okay. And it had been hard to keep track of who was who, even back when he'd lived with them.
At Wash's assessment of the situation, Snake glances back, his lips curling into a wry smile. ]
Sorry to break it to you, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.
[Surely if there'd been one or two, it wouldn't have been hard to remember the names.
He snorts when the man says that.]
I'd got that impression already. Good to know to expect more weird bullshit though.
[ Look, Snake hadn't paid them that much attention except for those moments when they'd climb all over him while he was sleeping. ]
Yeah. If you have questions I can try to answer them, but... there's a lot that hasn't really been explained to us.
[He's never had that many cats. How did he even manage with that many?
He thinks for a moment about what to ask. There's a few things that come to mind.]
How armed do I need to be generally?
It's a worthwhile question, and Snake takes a moment to think it over. ]
I tend to take my handgun with me whenever I go out, but it usually isn't necessary. Just a force of habit.
[ You never know what might happen, after all. ]
Things tend to be peaceful within the city itself, but if you start heading out to some of the other accessible planets, there's no telling what you'll have to deal with.
[That isn't in question. He has no intention of going anywhere without a weapon. But there's a difference between carrying a knife, and carrying an armoury.]
That's good to know. I'll probably be doing that at some point.
Good luck settling back in. You can feel free to contact me if you need anything.
[ Wash may not remember him, but it seems like the right thing to do. ]
Re: [video]
What's everyone else been telling you?
Re: [video]
Seems pretty typical. There's a good number of civilians in our group.
Re: [video]
It's like getting blood out of a rock.
[ He's got at least one decent source of information, now. ]
Re: [video]
Thanks.
