[Lisbeth can get by just fine with some mediocre job if she has to, that's not the issue. She's not going to advertise herself for a job. What she is going to do is try and get some resources on the technology here and maybe, just maybe, find a few like-minded people that share her interests. Maybe they could even be useful in the future.]

Anyone good with the tech here?

I've figured out a few things. I need to learn more.

[She hates putting herself out there like this but after days of going back and forth and considering the consequences, she has decided it's really the only way. She just doesn't have the network or resources she had back home.]

How much have you learned? Can you get a source code for the TAB network?

There's a directory for the TABs. As far as I can tell, none of them are locked. Nothing can be done anonymously, either.

Encryption is still the most effective at keeping things locked but until you can crack their source code completely, they'll be able to read everything if they want.

[ Which makes sense considering they created it. ]

[She'd been dreading that answer. It could be that this person isn't skilled enough to do what she's wanting, and thus does not know. It could also be that the technology here is so far advanced that it would take her or any other normal human a lifetime to hack.

What a bummer.]

Ok. Do you know if they have reason to spy on us?

[ Arthur likes to think he's pretty damn skilled considering all the intel he had to collect for his profession (mostly by illegal means). But even he has to admit this technology is a bit beyond him. ]

When I first got here, I would've said no. After some recent events, it might be edging out of that. Newcomers to this place aren't really looked on favorably.

Comes down to the adage "a few bad apples can spoil the bunch".

What kind of bad apples? Got any names?

[Are they talking about jay-walkers here or utter bastards? So much for this place seeming different from home. Wherever there were humans there were bastards it seemed.]

The tech here isn't all that different than I'm familiar with. Giant... universe-hopping gates aside.

Anything specific in mind?

[Lisbeth has seen handfuls of different species in the few days she's been here, but this (guy? gal? other?) one is the most impressive so far. And by impressive, she means different than herself.

She doesn't switch to video herself though; Lisbeth much prefers typing to communicate.]

I need to know everything. UI. Network frame. Source codes.

[She keeps her own end on video - there's nothing to hide here, and no real reason not to. Like she'd told the Spectre -- no laws broken here.]

From what I've seen, this TAB thing is the most common. But this planet's got all kinds of other tech around, haven't gotten the chance to dig much. Unless you're talking their "Ingress tech".

Then I've got no clue.

[Her expression flicks into something amused, her tone wry.]

Turian. Never seen one before?

[It's a good thing her video feed isn't on. Lisbeth has a dumb, stunned look on her face for a solid ten seconds before she responds.]

Is the tech here more advanced than you're used to?

Figured not. Don't worry -- I don't bite.

[She still sounds amused, anyway, before moving right along.]

The Ingress is. Everything else is about the same. But I'm no tech head -- I can work a basic interface well enough. Figure it out with enough poking.

[This Turian is nice, but not what she's looking for with her initial inquiry. Tech-heads are precisely what he's looking for.

That doesn't mean Lisbeth has no desire to keep talking though. She's curious.]

What are your people like? what are you like?

Spiky, rule-oriented soldiers with a lot of sticks up their asses.

[Sorry, Lisbeth, there's a bit of salt here. Maybe more than a bit. But she says it so casually, she might as well be describing the weather.]

Me? I'm Vetra, for starters. You?

[Spiky? She isn't sure what that means but she's picturing people ready to stab.

It's almost a full two minutes before Vetra will get a response back though. Lisbeth takes her time doing a risk assessment of sharing her real name but ultimately decides there's no harm in it.]

My people are spiky too.

[As for the saltiness, she can definitely sympathize.]

[She wasn't really expecting an answer, when one doesn't come soon. She'd been ready to move on, but when the answer does appear, it earns a twitch of her mandible. A turian half smile.]

And you know, when you say "your people", I've gotta ask what people that is.

[It's a fair enough question and one she's more than willing to give. Lisbeth doesn't think too much of her own people.]

The human race. Almost all of us are bastards.

[There's a laugh on her end. One that ripples in the subvocals of her voice -- like echoes.]

[Considering the current xenophobia of Thisavrou she supposes it is. It's really kind of depressing.

People, no matter what kind, are assholes everywhere.]

You're right. We're all selfish on a base level.

[She still sounds a little amused, but it's more wry than actually humorous.]

Guess that's reassuring. In a weird, depressing kind of way.

It might be the one thing you can depend on people for.

[And it should be a depressing thought but she feels ambivalent towards it, resigned, as it's not a new revelation at all.]

Well, that. And everyone needs something.

You can always depend on that, too.

what are you looking to learn?

[How to get home crossed her mind as a logical answer that any normal person might give, but she didn't feel any pressing need to return to her previous life, and it would have been a lie. She didn't mind lying on principle but there was no need to right now.]

Anything you can teach. What can you do?

i'm good with starships
but i can work with almost anything that's got circuits and wires

[Starships? Lisbeth doesn't respond for almost five minutes after that. She's lost in her own mind, imagining the possibilities of what this person could teach her. It's not impossible for her to learn from others - she did so with Plague for the longest time - even if she fars prefer learning on her own. Finally she responds:]

Would you teach me?

[rey doesn't know why she's had so many people ask her this. on jakku, it's a matter of life or death to know the basics of starships at the very least. but she supposes it makes sense that other people on other planets might not need those skills.]

[Lisbeth is a little surprised. There's no demand for an exchange, no price given, no rebuttal. This makes her suspicious, but for now she'll let it lie.]

Repairs to start with. I can reverse engineer basic machines and motors and put them back together again but that is all, nothing more complicated than that.

[There's a lot of weird shit happening on both planets right now and she is still so new that traveling around is an adventure all its own. She'll also want to check out this person well before ever actually meeting them.]
