I saw that asteroid on the list of places, but I never considered visiting it because they had such a long waiting period just to look around -- maybe not long by the standards of quarantines, but it seemed long for a visit, when I had no real reason to go there, even before the storm and the fire and everything that followed. But as for the asteroid, it seems that they had reason to be thinking of quarantines and contamination.

Re: voice;
Unless they were thinking of it because they were planning to use such a strategy themselves. Either way, it seems clear that they knew more than they were saying.
But it is funny that their quarantine and the new decontamination take the same amount of time.

Re: voice;
Did anyone say that?

[ Or it's some creepy plot, which seems just as likely to him. ]
Re: voice;
And it doesn't seem like this is a common occurrence. The people ... the ones I've been seeing, they're ... not all taking it in stride.

Re: voice;
Haven't you seen it?
The woman who I live with -- I am in her daughter's room temporarily, after her daughter moved out to be closer to the garment district -- she has been here in Region 1 for some time. But she is arguing with the neighbors about this, fiercely, and yesterday someone asked her where her daughter went as if they suspected something was being hidden. And whenever someone sees someone who has been stained by decontamination, there is a look, if not worse.
If they knew it would work, if they'd seen it all before... I think there would be less fear and blame coming out in these ways.
Re: voice;
'S what I mean, though. They want everyone to come get stuck and washed, whatever. Me, I ain't goin' nowhere, not if they dunno it works.
Re: voice;
Should you say that? [Not at all arguing with the sentiment, just, should you say it publically?]
Have you heard any of the other things people are saying should be done? Like stop using the Ingress...?
Re: voice;
Thing seems like trouble anyway.
Re: voice;
I guess... [Wanda can't deny it, though before the dangers showed up, she had taken the travel for granted. She'd taken a temporary job on Deslora in the same way she might take a job at the other end of the EN-line if one was offered. She'd thought an Ingress was only a little less convenient than owning your own ship that could travel the galaxy.]
But how much does it matter if it's used for travel, when it's so important no matter what? It's what makes this system...work...without a sun... [Wanda doesn't understand that at all.]
And it's the only way out if things go wrong, isn't it? The storm doesn't look very easy to travel through.
voice;
I dunno. I guess. 's just, who knows what's out there.
Re: voice;
I thought they did. They acted like they knew what they were doing.
But who knows what will happen here? There's already been so much, and I've only been here a few months.

Re: voice;
I built a house. Then it turned out that other people needed it more than I did. Now it's filled with refugees from the fire.
You see, things happen.
Re: voice;
[ Just, you know, in case. ]
Re: voice;
[A longer pause.]
Safe? [She sounds disbelieving and unhappy.]
Re: voice;
Folks like your neighbors... I mean, could be nothin. Don't wanna bet on it bein' nothin, though.
Re: voice;
Re: voice;
That kinda talk, it's dry grass waitin for a spark.
Re: voice;
I have survived a fire already. Where can I go to be safe from neighbors that act like fires, or parasites, or wars, or anything else that can happen?
