—What?

[ It's a question that's both disbelieving and demanding, Katsa's voice just a little more high-pitched than she usually ever speaks. Of course, since this is her first time using the TAB and among her first days in Thisavrou, it's not a detail that too many people should recognize, but still. Squeaky.

It's especially obvious once she continues speaking—lower, but no less demanding, with the look and tone of someone who's accustomed to getting answers when she asks them. ]

Is it a common welcome here, then, to offer some sort of poor beast's heart as a gift? Or does someone imagine they'll disturb others for amusement? A gift from a king, perhaps?

This and that. Where he's from, a few of his experiences. Why, what has he told you?

[ Plenty, that's what Arno has told her—and Katsa wonders still if he regrets it. She remembers her mistake in Allaidh Darach, the slip of the tongue with information he'd entrusted to her as he had few others. She'd almost ruined their friendship, then and there; and the memory is as sudden and sharp as it was then, in its abruptness.

She bites hard on the inside of her cheek. No, she won't be making the same mistake again. She won't tell Nate anything. ]

The same as you. [ Cautious. How casual did she make that? She hopes it was casual. And then with little thought as to why she's adding it: ] And I've been to his Paris, for a short time.

Is that so?

[Nate raises an eyebrow.]

Huh. I don't have as much experience with this dimension-hopping thing as you two, but I didn't think we got to make trips to each other's worlds.

Well, and neither did I. Things got... mildly out of hand, with all the magic near the end. His wasn't the only world I visited. But it was a one-time thing.

If I could do it again, learn to make it happen again—I would in an instant.

Sounds like there's a story there.

[She doesn't look thrilled about it, though, so he won't press for details. He's not the reporter in the family.]

I wouldn't mind that kind of exploration myself, if it came with a guarantee that I could make it home in the end.

I imagine there are plenty of stories. [ There's a flicker of a smile. ] We never had that guarantee. I never asked to be there.

[ And there it's clear she's hesitating, biting her lower lip, something obviously bothering her. Then— ]

You say you wouldn't mind it. You might not like the size of some of the spiders.

Spiders?

[Nate grimaces. He's not an arachnophobic, but he's not a fan of them. Not the big ones.]

No thanks. I've had more than enough giant spiders in my life.

[ That smile doesn't quite settle into a full one, but it becomes something a little more open. ]

My name is Katsa. [ He didn't ask. She's giving it anyway, with an expectation he'll return the favor. ] If we've any such spiders here, I'll be sure to squash them for you.

I'm Drake—Nathan Drake. [He makes a face.] And thanks, though a shotgun was more useful than a foot last I checked. They're that big.

[ There's hesitation as Katsa tries to remember if she knows what that is. ]

A shotgun? [ She's thinking of a pistol, the kind she learned from Porthos. ] It seems to me something other than a bullet would still be more efficient for a spider.

It was more about keeping the swarm away until you could flee into the light. Shotgun spray did the trick. Not something I'd like to try again, though.

One bullet for a swarm? Or did your gun fire many bullets at a time?

Shotgun ammo's closer to the latter. I was just holding on long enough for me wife to get us out of there by getting the door open.

Your wife. You're married? [ And then, perhaps relevant? ] What were you and your wife doing in a swarm of giant spiders? Are there many where you're from?

You don't have to sound so surprise. Yes, I'm married. And what we were trying to do was run the hell away from them. I'm really happy that they're not too common.
