[It would seem that someone has just been handed a copy of the welcome guide -- and instructed on a few basics, or he wouldn't know how to transmit this video -- and it would seem, also, that he is not entirely impressed by what he found in the guide. The video is just wide enough of an angle to show what appears to be a smear of blood on his shirt.]

It's nice. Someone clearly put a lot of work into it. It's not exactly helpful though, is it?

[It seems to have glossed over quite a few things, or ignored them entirely.]

For instance, for all the trouble it goes to to tell us where we are now, it says nothing about how we get home again.

[He'd really like to get back there. He's got ~~people to kill~~ things to do.]

Or even how we got here. Which is what I'd really like to know.

[Is someone messing with him?]

I saw the robots. I know he was going to use them to track us down. [He didn't need any details beyond that.] It doesn't mean you try to murder them on camera. It doesn't mean you make us all look like psychos to the rest of the human race.

If that chick hadn't stopped you, we'd all be in deep shit. Jean and Charles can harp on forever how things turned out okay, but you just got really lucky.

Raven was there to kill the man who invented those robots. [There's a lot more to it than what there seems to be.] We went to Paris to stop her, to make sure we would have a future. We didn't know if we could. What would you do to save your species?

[Which is definitely not what everyone has been telling him about this mysterious Raven the hero. But if it's Jean's word or Erik's...]

No dice, dude. I've already heard about this idol to all mutant kind. I'm pretty sure the kids aren't celebrating a murderer.

[Said both like he isn't the same age as the 'kids' and like he knows anything about what Jean and Kurt are like.

He's noticeably dodging the question. Peter had made his own ill attempts to call out mutant discrimination on the ship. It had ended...badly. But he's pretty sure it would only help Erik's argument to talk about Ade's treatment.]

Since she didn't kill him, they're not celebrating a murderer.

[They're celebrating someone who stopped the one who is.]

The only ones who knew what happened before that afternoon were the ones on the plane. I already told you why we went to Paris.

Yeah, well. I can just ask Charles. I kind of trust him a little more than you.

[Not much more, Peter has yet to settle into liking the professor. But he doesn't think Charles has much interest in lying to him. And. Well.

Wanda liked him. That counted for something.]

You can't start shit here, Erik. You can't kill anyone here.

[Go ahead and ask. He'll say the same thing.]

Do you think I just go around killing people randomly?

He's been here for months. Check the names in the directory. He's here, so is your pal Logan.

You might, for all I know. I'm just warning you, it won't end well. Don't make us all a target more than we are.

Not my pal. I never met him before that day.

Why would I want to make us a target? We're targeted enough as it is.

Next you'll say Charles wasn't your friend either.

It's less about want and more about you pulling another stunt, making people too aware of us again. We've had trouble before, but it's better. The others don't deserve that to change.

Charles was my friend once. I've never denied that.

[He's done a lot of things, but he's not a liar.]

So you're content to hide then? Pretend you're no different from anyone else?

I'm not hiding anything. Most people here know what I can do. I'm just trying not to bring in the negative press. You've not seen what they can do here. If you like having powers, you keep out of trouble.

[He had...kind of deserved it.] I could have stopped him, I could have done it back, and I didn't. Why do you suppose that is?

[He does like having his powers. This seems important to listen to.]

You're the one who said he knew crazy. How am I supposed to know what you were thinking?

[He hesitates, considering whether he should tell Erik about Ade. On one hand, he doesn't want a repeat of what happened in DC, not on any level. On the other, he wonders if it might act as a good warning of why nothing like that can happen here.

Either way, he knows it's a matter of public record at this point. Even if Peter's the only one to keep the argument going for the past year.]

The people who were in charge of the ship had machinery, little implantable chips, that could modify someone's behavior and at least for mutants, turn off their power. This place seems even more advanced than the ship. If someone starts causing problems, I don't think they'd think twice before using it again.

[You did not just try and imply that about him, Peter. That definitely won't help.]

I wasn't talking about me.

[He squints the tiniest bit while contemplating this, not sure which part to focus on, or how to feel about it. They can target mutants, if need be. That knowledge sticks in his skin, it rankles, but he also knows what it's like to be powerless. To be unable to access something that's a part of you, makes you who you are.

He won't feel like that again.]

They can take powers away?

[Welcome to dealing with teenagers Erik. Enjoy the eye roll.

This part of the conversation is incredibly sobering. Peter still hadn't let go of all his anger over Ade's fate, even if he's learned to keep it to himself in fear of what could happen to him, Wanda, even River if he kept fighting the issue. His starts speaking a little faster, voice laced with irritation for once not aimed at Erik.]

I think the chip suppresses them, but it's as good as taking them away. I saw them do it to a mutant. They took his powers away for a period of time as punishment, took his ability to fight back at all at a time when things were a little more, uh, rocky on board.

Most people didn't care. Some pretend they do now. Hell, I think some might actually now that they know the rest of us. But at the time? Everyone just let it happen to him. That's why I'm saying to be careful.

Punishment for what? [If he's going to be careful, he's going to need some idea of what's considered an offense around here.]

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

[He's seen it before. For his entire life, there have been so many examples of this.]

Murder. [He winces. It's kind of a hard thing to defend someone for.] Look, he was really in the wrong. He killed someone, he should have had to pay. But he's not the only one who's done that. You know, killed someone. He just got treated worse. Punishments used to be pathetic. Spend a week in lock up, everyone pretends that's enough. But instead of a slap on the wrist, he got a punch to the gut.

It's not the only thing I've noticed either. I'd be careful getting into any fight. They won't care if you were just defending yourself, someone else.

No one else has a problem with those sorts of punishments? Only applicable to a certain group of people?

Other people were punished, but never with the chip. Not even when they'd committed murder a few times over. Some people were punished for acts of self defense, treated like they were just as bad as their attackers. It was never the normal looking ones, you know?

[Calling what Sans did self defense is a stretch, but to Peter it showed a pattern. That and he'd never quite gotten over his anger at himself being thrown in a cell, denied medical attention for a fight Peter believed Rinzler had started.]

[It was probably meant to be rhetorical, but:]

I have some idea what you mean.

[And he doesn't just mean when it comes to mutants.]

It sounds like someone's got themselves a convenient solution to something they see as a problem.

That's what I thought, at the time. [He says it quietly, like the idea still stings.]

Look, nothing has happened in a few months. The more of us that have showed up, the less problems we've had. I'm just saying what could happen. What they've got the power to do to us.

You think something's going to happen now that I'm here.

[He shrugs. That's exactly what he thinks. He doesn't look ashamed of it.]

I think it could.

Things do happen even when I'm not around.

Sure they do. But I'd rather be safe than sorry. I got people to worry about.
