Is anyone here good at hunting? There is some sort of infestation of small cats in the garden, and we should really stop them before they cause problems. Plus I think we can all agree some fresh meat would be a nice change.

I've been trying to catch some but they keep hiding in places I can't reach. Some assistance would be appreciated.

Exactly! If it does grow more cats we're going to have a big problem unless we figure out a way to get rid of them.

I guess cats have some sort of special cultural significance to humans. Like how the RainWings keep sloths as pets and don't eat them, but RainWings are so unusual I assumed that was an exception.

Really? That's so weird. Why cats and not anything else?

well, meat's kind of disgusting anyway, so I don't mind if they don't add more of it to the menu.

I don't know, I guess because they are small and fluffy? That's why the RainWings liked the sloths, anyway.

You're a vegetarian? That's interesting.

So they're too cute to kill? Huh. [So animals are fair game if they're ugly. Humans are weird.]

I grew up vegan - it's way too many resources to keep animals in space. I ate meat for a while before I got here, but it...has this really awful crunch when you eat it? And it tastes bizarre

Sort of. They aren't predatory, and they move really really slowly, but they're very fluffy and soft. I think the humans would like them too.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. I can imagine how it would be weird if you weren't used to it.

They do sound pretty cute!...I still don't think a star ship is a good place to keep animals, though, even the really cute ones.

Right. Besides, when you've had to eat insect porridge, you stop wanting to eat any kind of meat ever again.

Insect Porridge? I wouldn't count that as meat, but I agree it sounds hideous.

If it was running around at some point and now you're eating it, I count it as meat.

It was really awkward. Either I caused a diplomatic incident or...well, a culinary incident.

That's a good point, I guess I never considered that. But insects are not a very efficient food source for dragons, they're way too small.

Are people really that particular about their food though? I mean in a cultural sense, specifically.

are dragons carnivores? I don't want to think about the number of insects that would take.

Culturally? I guess they are. where I'm from we all eat the same kind of food because we have to, so I never thought about it very much.

Primarily, yes, though it would be more accurate to say we're omnivorous. But most dragons prefer meat except RainWings. I just spent some time with other NightWings, and they'll even eat rotten meat. It's their main food source, actually, though I don't think I'd be able to do it, since I grew up eating fresh meat only.

And RainWings and NightWings are different kinds? cultures? of dragons?
Quarians are all the same in a lot of ways. Same food, same language, mostly the same culture. I forget other races aren't like that.

Yes, both! There are seven dragon tribes: MudWings, SeaWings, SkyWings, IceWings, SandWings, RainWings, and NightWings. There are a lot of similarities of course since we're all dragons, but each tribe is unique and has its own customs and traditions. For example, the SeaWings have their own language for communicating underwater. MudWings social structure is organized by groups of siblings.

The NightWings are very secretive and there isn't a lot of information on them, and I only just met some in person, but that's what Morrowseer told me. I think they have a kind of bacteria growing in their mouth, so they infect their prey and then wait till they die of infection to find and eat them.

[She wasn't planning on it, but by golly she's here for it. Quarians must have had all of these differences, hundreds of years ago, but they're long gone now, replaced by a homogeneity that she always thought was completely normal.

I'm pretty sure quarians used to be like that, hundreds of years ago - I couldn't tell you anything about different clans or cultures, we don't really have that history, but I wish I knew.
Which tribe are you from? ...I don't know if that's a rude thing to ask.

Oh, that's really unfortunate. I know I'd want to know all about the history of my people. I'm a NightWing, but I didn't grow up in the NightWing Kingdom and they're really protective of information about the tribe, so I understand. It was really hard for me to learn anything about them growing up with the Talons of Peace.

It's not rude to ask, all the tribes look really different so it's pretty obvious. All NightWings are black and have silver scales on their wings that look like the night sky, like me.

I don't think I'll ever know, but when my people get to return to their homeworld, they'll find out. If the race that was occupying it didn't destroy everything.

[The geth are so far away now, and it's oddly present in her mind that in signing up to save her homeworld, she saved them too, that...she can't bring herself to get angry at the very thought of them anymore. It's just exhausting.]
