[It's set to video, but the feed is dark, and there's some kind of ambient noise. After a few moments it becomes clear that Lavellan is unknowingly covering the camera with his hand. He's talking, too, but his voice is muffled.]
Hello. Hello? Is this--is it working? I can't tell--
[Then there's actual video: it's a fuzzy closeup of Lavellan's eye, and then his ear.]
Can... anyone hear me? Am I doing this correctly?
[There's more muffled noise, like someone manhandling a microphone; the feed jostles and then goes dark again. There's what sounds like muted cursing in a foreign language (elvish, for those who recognize it) before the video ends entirely. Trying to use advanced technology is rough when you're from medieval fantasy land :(
The video is accompanied by text that looks like someone poked uncertainly at the letters of an unfamiliar keyboard with one hand. Because they did.]

You're the one jumpin' to that conclusion.

[Okay, that's enough flirting with the locals.]
Thank you for your patience. I'm starting to realize I'm actually the strange one here.
no subject
[Because Southern sass comes easily enough as she smiles.]
Think we're all a little strange in the end. You got it all figured out?

[He actually has been fiddling with it as they've been speaking, trying to suss out some of what it does without actually disrupting their... session. There's something called speech to text? If that's what he thinks it is, it could be extremely convenient.]
Actually, do you mind if I try something?
no subject
Sure. What's the worst you can do? Hang up on me?
no subject
[And with that, he actually does hang up on her. But text appears a second later!]
Hello. I'm love Ellen. thatwassupposedtosaylavellan.howdoyouseparatewords//
[Sorry... Rogue...]

'm sure Ellen loves you too.
[But more serious now.]
There's a little bar that will give you spaces between your words.

[Progress!!!!! He's grinning off camera. Too bad it's off now.]
no subject
[Possibly stumbling over his name.]
'm Rogue. And I get that this can all be kinda confusing.
a million years later
Also he's decided he doesn't like typing, so it's back to video for now.]
Yes, it's definitely that. Does it take a while to get used to? Everyone already here seems so... nonchalant. I can't imagine a place like this feeling normal.

[Uh. That makes no sense.]
Or you can laugh at me when I inevitably misuse it again. I'm sure that would be fun for everybody.

Does that... happen often?

[He smiles at her.]
Can I call you a friend, Rogue? I have a feeling I'll need them in a place like this.

[Her own smile is easy. It's not exactly the way that someone wants to be remembered.
But she does pause. He does have a unique way about himself, doesn't he?]
Sure, you can do that.
