[ Hello, crew of the Moira. If you look at your MID devices, you'll be seeing one baby-faced space marine covered in kittens. Well, not covered, but he's got three climbing all over him while he's piled under a blanket. There's a ginger one, a fluffy grey tabby, and a chocolate brown-almost-black one, all of which seem to be enjoying their new climbing post. Wash, meanwhile, has a wide grin on his face. It's been too long since he's been around cats, okay? And he loves the little buggers. ]
I'm guessing I'm not the only one who's noticed the kittens in the garden? And if I am, well, there're kittens in the garden. And they're pretty adorable. I'm not entirely sure where they came from, but if anyone else wants some, I'd recommend getting down there and adopting one or two. They could use some warm love in these temperatures.
[ To emphasize, he shivers a little, though his expression doesn't shift a bit. He's quite literally thrilled by this turn of events. Kittens, guys. KITTENS. ]
I stayed and played with as many as I could for a while to keep them active, but there's only so much I could do, you know? So I grabbed these guys [ he gestures with his shoulders to the kittens climbing in and out of the blanket hanging over him ] and brought them back to my room. Figured I'd give them a home.
And now for the other reason for this broadcast--I could use some name suggestions. [ He doesn't even look sheepish. He legitimately wants help with cat names and either doesn't care or doesn't realize how ridiculous that sounds. ] So, if you have any, maybe leave them for me?
Oh! And I'm Wash, by the way. Agent Washington, technically, but everyone just calls me Wash.
[ And there the feed ends, with Wash still grinning his stupid "CATS" grin and a kitten batting at his chest. ]

Oh! And I'm Wash, by the way. Agent Washington, technically, but everyone just calls me Wash.

[ Wash heaves a sigh of relief and his face relaxes into a smile. He'd been genuinely worried that Snake was going to make him get rid of them, okay? And he's already attached. He's a natural cat mom. ]
Yeah! Apparently they came from this bonsai tree in the garden? I guess it's been blooming for a while and...finally bore its fruit. Which happens to be tiny cats.
[ His expression goes a little funny here, because he doesn't want to look like he's joking--he wants to wear a straight face, but it's just as weird a thing to repeat as to hear, so...he kind of fails at looking like he's joking and that he's not. His face is somewhere in between. ...Not that it matters much if Snake can't see him. ]
voice;
The somewhat questioning tone in which Wash explains about the tree indicates that he's just as baffled by saying it as Snake is by hearing it. ]
A tree that sprouts cats? [ He shakes his head to himself, which might cause some static on the line. ] At this rate I feel like I need to make a list of the things that are actually normal around here. [ And it would be a pretty short one. ]
voice;
That would be a small list. I don't think there's anything about this place that's really normal. Even spaceship-wise.
[ And that's coming from a space marine, so it must mean something, right? ]
But you're sure you're okay with the cats? I mean, they're a lot smaller than normal cats, so they shouldn't be a big problem, even with three of them, but-- I...probably should have checked before making any decisions.
voice;
Wash doesn't really know when to let something go, though, does he? Snake had already said that it was fine, but here he is double-checking all the same. ]
Don't worry about it, kid. If I had an issue with it, I would have said so from the start. [ He's definitely not shy about that kind of thing. ] Might be a good idea to run things by me ahead of time in the future, though.
[ Just because he's okay with this doesn't mean he doesn't have other pet peeves. Just ask Otacon. ]
voice;
[ His smile is sheepish, but pleased. He won't worry about it any further now, and he won't feel...as guilty about being excited to have cats again for the first time in years. ]
Right. Yeah. Sorry, I will! I'll be sure to with anything else that comes up, I just... Tend to get carried away when it comes to cats.
[ So much so that...yeah, he could have probably happily taken in all the kittens in the gardens. But he'd taken Snake into consideration there! Thus, only three kittens, so he'd been semi-considerate, at least! ]
voice;
He's dealt with worse. ]
Cats specifically?
[ He probably should have just left it at that, but it's not like there's much else to do in the cargo bay right now. Even if the captains cared about him chatting while on the job, it's not like he gives two shits. ]
voice;
[ His answer comes out a question, like he's not exactly sure what other possibility there could be. Cats are just a weakness of his, especially little kittens. Even worse, little kittens with no real home. ]
I think it's because I kind of grew up always having a cat around? And then joining the military, I had to leave mine at home, and... Well, now that we're here, I got really excited about the idea of having one again.
...Or three, I guess.
voice;
If this place gives you the chance to actually enjoy something, you may as well make the best of it.
[ He could leave it at that, but they're roommates, which means he should probably give Wash an inch here or there. ]
... I used to raise huskies. I mushed 'em, too. If it had been dogs instead of cats, our positions would probably be reversed.
voice;
[ When Wash gets more than that in response though, he's surprised. Like, the fact that Snake is sharing some stuff about his life is pretty startling--he really seems like the kind of guy who keeps everything to himself and doesn't let anyone get to know him.
But Wash is happy to get a chance to know something like this about him. ]
Yeah, I guess so! That's neat, I've never met anyone before who raised huskies. Or any kind of dog, actually. Must have been interesting.
voice;
He generally doesn't open up unless he's berated with questions, or is left with no real choice.
Still, this is a safe enough subject, and so he doesn't mind elaborating. ]
They kept me busy. [ Which is what he'd needed at the time. ] They could be a handful, but they were good dogs. [ Having to give them up had been the most difficult thing about returning to the field (and reality). ]
