video;
It occurred to me the other day that I haven't had a chance to write anything, and that's, to me, a little depressing. There's been so much here that's happened, not just to myself and the friends I've made, but to everyone else. To you.
My day job, back home, for those of you who don't know me, it deals with investigative journalism. I write to uncover the truth, to shed light on scenarios that are otherwise dark and bleak.
Since I got here, everything has been nothing but a whirlwind of events. Each month there's been something new; whether it's stopping off at various planets, or it's daily occurrences on the ship. [ RIP Moira. ] There hasn't been time for me to sit down and write it all out.
[ Elena pauses and her eyes drift downward, off to the left. For those who knew about the incident with the Descendants, how she'd walked away from that moment on the ship with her left arm broken and bleeding out where it'd bitten her...she no longer wears a splint and padded cast. There's no visible sling. It's almost as though none of that had ever happened.
An injury as deep as that, bones needed time to mend. They needed a full two months. It's been less than that.
It shows that she's trying to think of how to word what she wants to say next, without giving anything away. ]
I'm interested in writing about abilities. [ Here she looks up, looks directly into the TAB camera. ] I'm interested in learning about them.
If you're comfortable with discussing this, that's great. I'm available for one-on-one meetings, if you would prefer, or you can reach me privately through the messaging system.
Also, if you're interested in learning more about the stories I've done, I won't mind sharing. Ask me anything you'd like.
[ Except you, Flynn. ]

[ There's quite a few that had gone untold. ]
Did you win many competitions?
[ He seems like the competitive type. ]
no subject
[Yes, but he doesn't care.]
I did actually, parents started my training when I was six and I got very into it. Even when I stopped competing I kept up training privately as a means of exercise. Gets the blood pumping and all that.
[Oh you have no idea, Elena.]
no subject
[ What is greed? ]
That was how I felt with uncovering ancient history. It's not something I do anymore.
no subject
[Goddamn she's brutal.]
I do miss competing, but don't really have time for keeping up with training and tournament schedule. So what about you? Why'd you stop? Settling for more reliable routes for journalism?
no subject
[ She's a journalist, Rafe, c'mon. She'll roast even her own husband. ]
Safer routes is more like it. The ones where you don't get caught in a grenade blast.
no subject
[He wants to hear this roasting please. Rafe whistles and shakes his head a little.]
That will do it. Must have been pretty bad.
no subject
[ That would definitely do it. Among other things. ]
I was out for three days, barely remember much after it'd happened and I'd been carried out. Shambhala had been nice, don't get me wrong, but the company we'd been following hadn't been so much.
no subject
[Its the tiny blond reporters you gotta keep your eye on.]
Whoa whoa, wait. Shambhala? Like Shangri-La? You were there?
[He already knows Nate was there, but he's gonna be nosy if he can.]
no subject
[ Which just sounds like another story. ]
no subject
Would asking to elaborate be too much?
[He doesn't ask like he's trying to be considerate of her feelings or whatever, more just, if I ask will you shut my ass down.]
no subject
[ She blows out a breath. Where to start? How? ]
I was there on my own. I'd had a few leads dropped in my lap about a particular madman named Zoran Lazarevic. He was responsible for many horrific massacres and executions— I'm not sure if you've heard of him— but he was assumed dead from an air strike assassination attempt. I snagged a cameraman and we went into the thick of Nepal on our own to trail him. We were there purely for him, and the story. Along the way we had bumped into— you guessed it— Nathan Drake.
[ And Elena will never forget how he'd gone down under Jeff's tackle. ]
He wasn't alone, he was with Chloe. They were there together, apparently.
So. Turns out they were there also trailing Lazarevic but for other reasons. Instead of splitting up, we stuck together. Safety in numbers and all that. One thing led to another and then another. We ended up in the temple leading down into Shambhala and were stopped there by...
[ Her brows came together as she paused. Flynn is a bit of a tough topic to discuss, for personal reasons. ]
We were stopped by a guy who'd originally gone there with Nate and Chloe and had chosen his side, Lazarevic. He'd been shot, by Lazarevic. In the chest. He was dying, or he thought he was. I was the naive one who thought we could save him.
That was when he pulled out the grenade in his hand to show us and... And I'm sure you can figure out the rest.
I was the closest when he let it drop.
no subject
Then there's Chloe. They're all a part of this little adventure. How terribly fun.]
Lazarevic, yeah I've heard of him... nasty piece of work. You had guts trailing a man like that.
[And that's not him giving out compliments willy nilly, he means it. He sure as hell wouldn't have gone in the same direction as that guy. She doesn't use Harry's name, but Rafe knows who she's talking about, if only from the bit of information he's gotten from the man. Huh, so many different threads when it came to Nate Drake and the people he's known.]
I can figure out you made it out of all of that alive, which is impressive, a grenade to the face isn't something most people can shake off and walk away from.
[Not that he assumes she just got up and walked away from it in perfect shape. Still, he hadn't noticed any immediate scaring, as there must be some from an incident like that. Guess her face didn't catch the brunt of it.]
