Quest 001: A Favor for a Favor
[Varric had lost track of the days he'd been on this backwater planet. New time systems and science involving orbits and science the likes of which he'd never had the time for made him feel a bit... temporally lost. He'd spent most of his time fiddling with his new devices, wandering about and grousing about how he was effectively useless, thanks to his weapon being strapped to his back.]
[But there was one thing missing.]
[He'd done enough fucking around to figure out just how the TAB worked. He'd experimented by sending a few small videos to the contacts he'd gathered up -- mostly insisting that the Hawke's eat their meals and drink whatever water they could find. The usual stuff.]
[Now it was time to get down to the important business. The feed clicked on, with Varric's face perfectly in view. He gave the device both a crooked smile and a nod of acknowledgement.]
A message to whoever's listening. You don't know me, I don't know you. That's all well and good, but I make a living off of knowing people. [Varric lifted a bottle of clear liquid into view.] So. What better way to bond than over a drink or two?
[He lifted the bottle to his lips, taking a long swig from it. When he looked back, his lips cracked into a grin.]
You can have a bottle all for yourself if you do me just one favor. Find me a quill, some ink and a decent notebook, and it's all yours.

Ja, ja! I will happily make that the trade.
no subject
When do you want to make the trade?
no subject
Whenever is most convenient for you, mister ...?
no subject
I'm free now, if you are. We can meet at the third dull looking rock from the cave entrance.
no subject
I am also free. [Another grin and he reaches to pick up the TAB.] I will meet you there.
Video -> Action [If that's ok]
[With that, Varric set to ambling off. Being that his location was somewhat vague and that his legs were considerably shorter than most people, it took him an ample amount of time to arrive at the "designated" location, which he deemed to be not far from the mouth of the cave system they were in.]
[He did what he could to hide his excitement. A whole new set of ideas had begun bouncing around in his head, and he was eager to get to work. The sooner he made the trade with... whoever it was he was looking for, the better.]
action; [absolutely, yes!!]
So, he waited atop the rock they had mentioned meeting at, his tiny frame crouched, the length of his tail looped around his knees. The notebook rested on his thighs, both of his little hands holding it in place.
When he finally spotted Varric, Kurt perked and leaned forward a bit, raising one tri-fingered hand to greet him.] Hallo!
no subject
I take it you're my contact. [His eyes settled on the notebook before sweeping over the man, taking stock of the blue skin to the odd fingers.]
[His future editors were going to have a field day with this.]
Is it too late to start thanking you profusely? [As he spoke, he lifted his hands. One held the box of chocolates within it, while the other gestured to it elegantly, as if he were a merchant trying to sell his wares.]
no subject
That would be correct. [He took the notebook into his hands and stood up on the rock, leaping off to land gracefully on his feet.]
Profusely is not necessary, but I would appreciate the thanks. [Kurt grinned, fangs gleaming at the sight of the chocolate. He chuckled quietly at Varric's gesturing, amused at the charisma the man radiated.
Shifting forward a few paces, the blue child offered the book out to him, eyes alight with exhilaration.]
no subject
[In the meantime, he held out the chocolates. Despite his earlier surprise, the dwarf certainly wasn't hesitating in his interactions. Though the boy had surprised him at first, he seemed harmless, friendly even. So he looked a little weird -- so had the Inquisitor, with their glowing green hand.]
[Weird shit. Just what Varric was used to.]
Just don't eat these all at once. Might give yourself a stomachache.
no subject
He reached to take the box he was being offered, holding it with one hand and the book with the other - until Varric decided to take it, at least. That's exactly how Kurt likes to come off because it's better that way; his appearance is ... well, 'demonic' is what most people say and if he can prove that he's nothing like that, it always makes him feel better.
Which brought on the thought of why Varric seemed so short and briefly, he wondered if the Ingress had given him a misshapen form as well. Currently not something he was going to voice, though.]
Oh, I will not. They will get packed away and only brought out for special occasions.
no subject
Say, uh, what's your name? [He already knew what the first page would be -- a series of dedications. The kid would be at the top, or at least near to it (Hawke might very well kill him if she wasn't the first). Still, second or third wasn't that bad when it came to Varric.]
Ever had a book dedicated to you?
no subject
Ach, I suppose we did not exchange names before, ja? My name is Kurt.
[His eyes widened, bewilderment overtaking his features at the question. He shook his head, tucked the box between both of his arms and shifted from one foot to the other.] I cannot say that I have.
no subject
[At least, he hoped the kid was excited.]
Name's Varric, by the way. Varric Tethras.
no subject
Both enthralled and confused because why would someone want to write a book about him?]
Nice to meet you, Varric. [Adjusting his arms again, he slid the box beneath his left and offered the right out for a handshake, as long as Varric doesn't mind his peculiar, tri-fingered hands.] Kurt Wagner.
no subject
[The three-fingered grip was a little odd, but by this point, the dwarf had stopped keeping track of all the weird shit that was happening to and around him. Some kids were blue and had three fingers, some women had noodle hair.]
[And apparently space travel was real.]
You're a good kid. Come see me if you ever need anything, alright?
no subject
He drew his hand away after a few moments, hoping that it wasn't too long (or too short, for that matter) of a handshake; Kurt was slowly, but surely learning that most people enjoyed their personal space and lingering touches sort of interfered with that.
Ignore the violet tinting of his cheeks from the compliment, Varric.]
Ja, thank you. I will remember that.
no subject
[Varric looked around at the dark walls of the cave. He lifted a hand, scratching at the stubble on his chin, before flicking his gaze back to the kid. Anyone else and he might have asked about getting a drink, or playing cards.]
[Too blighted young for that, he figured.]
Anything else yours truly can do for you? [If not, Varric would continue on his pencil quest. Maybe if he was lucky, he could have a pencil by the end of the day.]
no subject
Although, Varric still has things he should be collecting and Kurt doesn't want to waste anymore of his time than necessary.]
At the moment, I do not think so. I hope that the notebook works out well for you and if I find anything that might help you out, I will be sure to contact you again.
no subject
[He nodded to himself. Soon then.]
I'll be seeing you, then. Don't hesitate to come find me, alright-- [Varric paused for a moment, looking Kurt over.] --Spades.
no subject
The nickname caught him off guard at first; he was used to his codename or some variation of it, maybe even 'Blue', but 'Spades'? That was something entirely new and different for that matter.
Kurt grinned, his head dipping in gratitude.] I will keep in touch. Thank you, Varric.
[Then, after readjusting the box in his arms, he turned on the ball of his foot and began to head back toward the camp, an obvious bounce in his step.]
