She doesn’t know anyone here, and she’s hesitant to even be addressing the entirety of the Moira’s crew all at once like this. So she opts for the easier mode of communication: text. It’s like talking to the internet that way, and… Well, to be perfectly frank, that’s easier for her to handle.]

Hello, Moira crew. [Behind the screen she winces. Even she can tell that sounds awkward. But she presses on.] I’m new to this ship, but not new to space travel - trust me - but I am trying to gather some more information than what was given to me. Hoping someone onboard can help me out.

Second: If you know anyone with the last name “Holt”, contact me ASAP.

[There’s another hesitant moment before the typing resumes.] I can help out with any tech stuff in exchange for any useful information you’ve got. I’m good at it, and I’ve worked with alien tech before. The stuff here is new to me, but they gave me a job that works with it pretty closely, so I’m pretty sure I can figure it out soon enough. So: you help me, I help you. Fair, right?

That seems to be the case. Although I'm not sure how a wormhole would throw us through the Ingress, or what happened to the Castle or the Lions.

But with you here, that makes two paladins accounted for. And considering the state of the wormhole, we might have fared better than expected.

They said the Ingress is malfunctioning, right? So it's possible that whatever affected the wormhole made it possible for the two to connect. [The half-shrug is almost audible.] It's the only running theory I've got right now, anyway.

So you've seen Shiro already?

It still seems unlikely, but it does make more sense than anything else. Not even the Galra could have planned something like this.

Yes, we've spoken already. But I should warn you, he seems to have lost a few memories before coming here. He remembers my capture, but not how I was rescued.

Yeah. And even if they were redirecting the wormhole so they could recapture us, this isn't one of their ships. [At least she's pretty sure it isn't.]

Wait, what? How's that even possible?

That's what I've been trying to figure out.

It must be memory loss, right? So perhaps he suffered some head trauma when the wormhole was attacked.

Well... That's definitely a possibility. It could've happened when he got pulled through the Ingress, too.

That could be it! If the Ingress tends to lose everything else, then why not memories?

[Speaking of, Allura's forehead is crown-less right now. Rude, Ingress.]

That does make a lot of sense. No one knows how it works, right? Maybe it has to take something from us as we go through.

I've heard from one of the other arrivals that our missing items may show up at our rooms.

I don't know if that's a service offered by the ship, or if that's another strange thing that happens around here which has no real explanation but everyone accepts for what it is.

Oh... Maaaybe that's sort of a result of the Ingress malfunctioning?

[She huffs a little, frustrated.] I've really gotta get a closer look at that thing.

If there's anyone on board this ship who can fix it, then it would be you.

[This is why Pidge gets to mess with the Lions' technology freely, no complaints.]

Actually, where do they have you assigned?

They've got me on the... [She trails off for a second while she checks, eyes flicking to something somewhere offscreen before coming back to focus on Allura's image.] Navigation crew. I'm a wing repair officer.

[She makes a face, obviously slightly disappointed.] It's not with the Ingress directly, but I'm gonna poke around at it when I can.

Well, whoever assigned you may not have realized what you're capable of yet. ... hopefully. I'd like to think that the Ingress would be a little more important than repairs.

[She's scowling a little. It's a little odd to her, not being able to make these kinds of calls. Speaking of...]

I, on the other hand, have been stationed as a veterinary assistant. [From princess to mouse doctor.]

[Pidge nods to the first, also kind of scowling at the thought.] You'd think. But at least I'm sure I'll have some downtime to...

[Wait a minute. Wait.] Did... you just say "veterinary assistant"?

[Her voice goes a little flat as she replies,] Yes, I did. I'll be responsible for animal care and research, and helping run the veterinary clinic.

Also... teaching? [She sounds a little puzzled by that. To be fair, though -- getting the paladins under control is a little like dog training.]

[She's actually kind of gaping at her device. That's how totally confused she is by that placement.]

That... That doesn't make any sense. Did they not get the part where you're royalty?

I made my title perfectly clear. It doesn't seem that royalty is given special treatment aboard this ship.

... that, or there were no open positions for overseeing crew, and they thought overseeing animals would be the next best thing...?

... Well, I guess you have always been really good with taking care of the mice?

That, and the Balmera.

... although I hope I won't have to perform such a drastic procedure anytime soon.

I get the feeling you won't be seeing anything even close to being Balmera-sized in the ship's vet.

Not unless the ship is secretly a breathing creature, and I have some reasons to doubt that.

[She taps on the nearest metal thing, just to demonstrate.]

[Pidge nods in agreement.] And if it was, I think someone would've noticed and said something about it by now.

Would they? I've noticed a worrying number of my questions have been answered with some variation of, "It just works."

Well, I'm hoping so. I can't think of any reason for a living creature to have a machine inside it that ports random people and objects into its gut.

Neither can I. It barely makes sense for a ship, short of providing itself a crew.
