[It's not the same as before where he'd woken up with a light breeze on his skin causing his too-long hair to dance across his forehead, and the sweet, dry smell of fruit trees. No, it's blue light and too much wind. There's nothing normal about that. The communication device strapped to his hand is cold. Bucky's used to not remembering things, but the long hall and unfamiliar faces tell him something's off. There's a million explanations going through his mind and none of them make any sense except one and he doesn't want to think about that.

Bucky goes through the motions. Steels himself while he's checked out. Signs the contract. Lets someone take him to his room and then walks the halls. Now back in his room, he clicks on the MID. His face is half-hidden and voice low. He wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't necessary. He's combed every inch of this goddamn ship and he can't find Steve anywhere.]

I'm looking for someone. Tall. Blond. Loves America.

[It's risky to put it out there. He doesn't know these people and trust isn't something he gives easily. But he needs to find someone he remembers. Someone from Wonderland. Someone from back home. Everything is muddled and this place looks like something his mind has made up.]

His name's Steve.

[There's a brief pause.]

If someone could tell me what the hell's going on here, I'd appreciate it.

[The feed cuts off.]

[Bucky blinks a few times, teeth worrying the inside of his lower lip.]

Don't come if you don't want to. They made it pretty clear you ain't my Steve.

This isn't about what they're saying. [ Because he's already on his way there. ] You still trust me, right?

That's not the point. [Bucky feels panic welling up inside him. He'll know won't he? If this isn't his Steve. The moment he sees him, he'll know.] Always.

Then I'll see you soon.

[ He's not sure why he feels guilty heading down to Nomo Deck, but he does. It eats at him the closer he gets to the room, and by the time he gets there and knocks on the door, Steve feels close to breaking. Still, he has to stay strong, and he'll give Bucky a smile when he answers the door. ] Hey.

[Bucky opens the door and steps aside to let him in. He looks like Steve, sounds like him, moves and breathes like his best friend.]

Hey.

[The door shuts behind him and Bucky takes a step back. Steve can see the physical differences now. His arm, smooth metal and no star, and his hair is a little longer, knotted at the back of his head.]

You didn't have to come here.

I wanted to make sure you were settling in okay. [ He definitely notices those differences, and he wants to ask - he can't help it; no matter what they say, this is still Bucky - but doesn't. Not yet. They've got a lot to talk through. ] And apologize. You shouldn't have had to deal with that.

[ There's too much to explain there, but if he hadn't been in cryo, he might have been able to intercept him before it all fell into chaos. ]

Eh, don't apologize, Steve.

[Bucky waves a hand and turns back to sit on the edge of his bed. He glances over at the chair next to the desk as if to say that it's all Steve's if he wants it.]

I'd be upset if another me showed up out of the blue. [He frowns then.] We have to talk. About everything.

[ There's definitely something very different about this version of Bucky than the one he feels is still his, but it's an odd relief, a part of him Steve thinks had been lost and overwritten by HYDRA present and clear in the one standing in front of him. Steve shakes his head when he glances at the chair. Maybe later. ]

That's why I wanted to see you. [ Because he knows they have to talk. ] What do you remember before you came here?

[ It's always the most important thing to have someone do when they show up, compare timelines, and even if he still wants to ask about Wonderland and events, he'd rather fill him in first about where they are now. ]

[Steve needs a timeline, and he considers where to start.]

Wonderland. [This Steve isn't comfortable around him and he's curious if he is around the other Bucky.] Had T'Challa put me under. You were there. Then I woke up there.

[Which wasn't easy at first, but the other Steve had helped.]

You sure you don't know anythin' about Wonderland? Everythin' that happened there?
