[It's not the same as before where he'd woken up with a light breeze on his skin causing his too-long hair to dance across his forehead, and the sweet, dry smell of fruit trees. No, it's blue light and too much wind. There's nothing normal about that. The communication device strapped to his hand is cold. Bucky's used to not remembering things, but the long hall and unfamiliar faces tell him something's off. There's a million explanations going through his mind and none of them make any sense except one and he doesn't want to think about that.

Bucky goes through the motions. Steels himself while he's checked out. Signs the contract. Lets someone take him to his room and then walks the halls. Now back in his room, he clicks on the MID. His face is half-hidden and voice low. He wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't necessary. He's combed every inch of this goddamn ship and he can't find Steve anywhere.]

I'm looking for someone. Tall. Blond. Loves America.

[It's risky to put it out there. He doesn't know these people and trust isn't something he gives easily. But he needs to find someone he remembers. Someone from Wonderland. Someone from back home. Everything is muddled and this place looks like something his mind has made up.]

His name's Steve.

[There's a brief pause.]

If someone could tell me what the hell's going on here, I'd appreciate it.

[The feed cuts off.]

[ooc: this bucky is a crau from another game. he thinks that he never left his previous game world and that it is during an 'event'. i'm so sorry if he confuses anyone.]

[Like where the short haired guy is from. Nick presses his lips into a tight line before answering.]

It's not my place to tell you too much. He's got his reasons, and he'll probably calm down eventually. Just watch yourself.

[Nick snorts softly.]

You exist. [Which isn't exactly fair, but that's the short version of it.] Look, I had the same thing to happen. He threatened to kill me about three different ways and stole some of my hair. Eventually we were cool.

[Which only makes all of this sound even crazier.]

Sorry, I don't know anything about that.

[He should have laid low. Kept an eye out for Steve and his ear to the ground. He might have been able to avoid this. Possibly found a way to bring this all to light without it crumbling all around him.]

It's fine. Figure he's pretty pissed at me and has his own reasons for it.

[Bucky shrugs.]

Glad we could skip the part where I confuse you for Steve.

[That might've been a good plan. Nick wouldn't have chosen it either.]

It's happened a time or two. I don't see it. [And he's sticking to that story, because it's weird. Speaking of:] The Captains, the universe, dumb luck...something's messing with us, I'm just not sure what. There's a lot of weird shit on this ship and everywhere it takes you. You can't let it rattle you, and when it does, you put on your best poker face and don't let it show.

[In the middle of all this, Bucky had felt pretty close to cracking.

There were too many people coming at him. Too many that looked and sounded the same as him. If anyone was going to mess with Bucky, doing this would have been the way to go. Now that he's talked with some others and met people that have gone through similar experiences, he's stepped back from that edge.]

Sounds like you've been doing this a while.

[Bucky can appreciate Nick's point of view. It helps.]

I've been here a few months. Over half a year?

[He frowns at that realization. It's inching closer to a year every day.]

But my life hasn't exactly been normal even before that. I guess that helps.

Is it permanent?

[Will they never get to go home? Now that Bucky's learning more about all of this, he's not even sure he wants to go all the way home. Steve's, the others, are waiting on him back in Wonderland, and he was in the middle of learning how to breathe again there. He might want to go back.]

Almost the same amount of time where I was before. A place called Wonderland. Was still there when this place took me.

[It seems like a lot of people have something that they need to get back to, Nick included. But he also has Cassie here, and that's enough to keep somewhat compliant. He's just not winning passenger of the month.]

Wonderland. [His brows lift.] The...adult club?

[What. He knows of a strip club by that name, sue him.]

[Bucky's lips pull at the corners, but he manages to keep most of his amusement tamped down. He rolls his eyes.]

Wonderland from the book. Sort of. Red Queen. These events that made us forget ourselves or had tricksters tryin' to kill us.

[The name didn't always fit the place, but compared to a lot of worlds, it wasn't so bad.]

I started to say, no wonder you want to get back.

[Nick laughs softly at the misunderstanding.]

Sounds like you might have a head start on the kind of weird shit that goes on around here.

[Bucky’s amused picturing it. He knows of more than one person who’d have hated it if Wonderland had been a gentleman’s club.]

Kinda thought that’s what this was. Turnin’ up in space and all these people who look like each other. Another event.
