[The white-haired man peering out of the screen at you has a faintly dubious expression on what you can see of his face, like he wasn't actually sure this would work.]

Uh... hey. [A slight pause, like he's not sure what to say.] I'm not used to talking for this kind of thing... I guess... I'm new here? The name's Ginko. Looks like I'm stuck here with the rest of you for a while, so I'd really like to get to know as many people as possible.

I've been assigned to be one of your medics. Hopefully I won't meet too many people because of that, though.

[But if this is the kind of place he thinks it is, he doesn't have his hopes up about that.

Another, smaller hesitation.]

Ah... if anyone here recognizes the name Edensphere... I'd definitely like to meet you. You might know me as Cloud, in that case.

[He kind of nods to the screen, and cuts the feed.]

It's the place I used to live. I was trapped there for over a year, and... then I ended up here.

That was a face he recognized. Hard to work closely with a man for almost a year and not recognize him, particularly when he ended up ... working in the same similar job set up again.

Adrien weighed how to approach Ginko for quite a few minutes. Was this the exact same man he'd know, like it was with Nico and Tali? Or was this situation more like Tony.

Hey. [ Apologies now, he's usually this socially hopeless. ] I'm one of the physicians you'll be working with.

Just like old times?

Hey, nice to meet you.

[He offers up a pleasant smile, and then the rest of what this guy said sinks in and it's replaced with faint confusion.]

Sorry, I'm afraid I don't know you.

[Was it like Prince or Chivalry, that he'd been in this place before without knowing it? An odd feeling...]

[ Alright, that answered that question. When he finished weighing out the results, Adrien found himself feeling a bit relieved. At least there was a universe somewhere where Ginko had avoided the insanity back 'home'.

The doctor didn't smile, in fact his expression seemed stuck in a permanent state of neutral, leaning towards scowl and he simply gave his head a small shake. ]

Yeah, sorry. Mistook you for someone else. Let me know when you'll be making a trek down to the Medbay, I can run you through some of the equipment we've got and where we keep the q-ti ... err, the supplies stored.

[Ginko raises his visible eyebrow slightly at the man's deflection, but he doesn't press him on the issue. If the guy wants to give him answers, he'll get them in time.]

Well... I wouldn't mind a tour now, if you have the time. Or whenever is convenient for you. Knowing where things are is probably a good idea in general, if I'm going to be working there a lot.

[Plus he's already checked out his room pretty thoroughly, and it's either look around the medbay or try to start exploring the rest of the ship.]

[ Did he have the time? Given that he practically lived in MedBay, it was a good guess that the answer was yes. ]

It's better than asking the patient to bleed more slowly while you look for a bandage, I agree.

[ He paused and then backtracked a step. ]

Which is to say, yes I have the time now.

["Ryuuzaki"'s low, calm voice is that of a youngish man.]

You were in another place like this... out of curiosity, what was the mechanism that brought you there?

[He didn't not see those first few exchanges with Badou....]

[Ginko doesn't even bother to act surprised. Just like the Journal, once it's there everyone can see it.]

Once the glass that enclosed the Tree--and us--shattered, it turned into portals that led to all the worlds everyone had come from. They seemed straightforward enough, just step through the right one and we'd be wherever we wanted to go. Some people even tested it out. They reported that moving between the worlds was easy, and there was no problem coming back if we wanted to.

I should have known it wasn't going to be that simple.

[Though once he finds out he's the only one who showed up here, he'll have to rethink any conclusions he's come to about how portals work.]

The Tree?

[On balance, he sounds more interested than skeptical. There had been trees on the first ship he was on, but they hadn't been responsible for any universe-crossing.]

I'm afraid I need more context. What was Edensphere like?

[He sighs a little. This could take a while to explain, but he's going to try and summarize as much of it as he can.]

Well... for starters, it erased all of our memories. I got mine back, but only after everything broke down; for the longest time, I didn't even know my real name. I called myself Cloud.

[Clearly why he mentioned it in his post.]

It was made up of several levels, but most of them were based around a massive tree. One that was large enough for people to live on, and carve houses out of the trunk and the branches. Most of the branches were also big enough to walk along, so it was kind of like a normal village. Just... in a tree.

That was the top level, the second level had floating islands where we had shops and various businesses set up. [Yes, he's 100% serious. Islands that floated in midair.]

The third level was... strange. It would change between one and three times a month, pretty randomly. We got a lot of supplies from there, because sometimes it would turn into an abandoned city; made it pretty easy to just go and take food and clothes, that kind of thing. We called it the Wilderness.

The fourth floor... was something no one really knew about. Fifth floor was the Junkyard. Stuff would just... turn up there, and sometimes it was things from our original worlds. I never really went down there, but I heard that if you ventured too deep you'd run into junk-monsters.

Other than that, though, it was... dangerous, I guess. Way too many people died because they tried to find out things about the Tree, which tended to discourage people from asking questions too loudly.

[Genuinely so. It's not a variation on this particular theme that L has heard of in the past.]

How did you manage to escape? You mentioned the enclosure shattering... did that happen due to outside forces, or due to the efforts of the people who were trapped inside?

If someone was able to do something, I never found out about it. As far as I saw, toward the end everything just seemed to break down. Things that were supposed to happen, didn't; other things happened too much. And the Tree itself seemed to be... dying.

Frankly I never thought we'd survive, much less wake up one day to things suddenly being... okay again.

[Plus the memory thing. That's good too, but so is not dying.]

Was anyone ever able to uncover any evidence of how this all happened -- who built the enclosure and why, that sort of thing?

Was yours really that terrible that you'd go to a whole 'nother world?

Not this kinda thing, no. They offer you the new plane of existence and a pension too?

I was expecting I could go back one day, if I wanted to, but it wasn't the kind of life I wanted to live anymore.

You mean where I was expecting to go or when I signed the contact to work on this ship?

Not that I know of. I heard some... disturbing rumors, but nothing I could confirm.

[Not without dying himself, anyway.]

You just believed em on their word to send you back? The hippie life got old.
