[Around the colony there are signs for something called the C.I.S.M. (the Cease Intergalactic Slavery Movement). There's little more than the occasional pamphlet peddling samaritan or some billboards that announce the problem to newcomers or remind acquiescing residents of their guilt. Kaz has the good fortune to happen across their headquarters, a series of (what he feels is entirely too prone) white tents with well-meaning volunteers.]

[It's really a tragic effort. And after the ship's first adventures in the Runoff slavery outpost it seems it's pretty important that the crew do something about it. At least that's his logic for aiding them. After all, in the event they're taken it's not like the crew has much proof of identity. No one can come after them if they're captured and sold if they're not rescued before the ship leaves. They'd be lost.]

[Miller's plan is to beef up their resources, give them better tools to go on the offensive. But he wants to be a little bit discrete about the plan. Just enough for some sliver of plausible deniability. Asking if people want to be involved in the organization's cause? He'll just see who gets lured in. Maybe he can find some smugglers and military trainers.]

There's a small group here. Some grassroots efforts against slavery. I figured they could use a little help around here. Come by if you have the time and are interested. Contact me privately if you're not sure where it is and I'll tell you how to get here from your location, especially if you've noticed some trafficking activity where you're at.

There's not much they can do right now. The rules here are a little ambiguous, but they seem pretty certain that this is a persisting problem they would like to stop.

OOC: This and this are the plotting threads concerning the C.I.S.M. He'll want to know safe businesses and homes for slaves to hide at, get aid in transporting people, and find people that can train them some guerrilla troops for some good espionage efforts. You're safe to assume word of mouth can reach your characters if you want them pulled in by someone else. Back-dated to soon after their arrival.

I can imagine. It's not usually something people get behind. I wouldn't think most of the crew would be, either, but I could be wrong.

I need help working out exit points, and hide-aways for slaves. Right now they have nowhere to go, and these people think talk is going to work to free them. I'm all for a good speech, but sometimes you have to force your hand. Make escape happen.

[There is something to be said here, he thinks, about meddling in the affairs of a place they don't understand--that in imposing their own morality on a people who may not want it, they might just make things worse. [All very good points. Normally he'd be less eager to impress a sense of morality; after all, he's a man that makes money off killing people as a business. The only reason he's even rethinking that is because of a hefty number of warnings about lasting effects. Mostly? He just wants to dick over the slavers that bought him and his friends.]

I am. There are a number of criminals in the city facilitating the slave trade. I'd like to know what they're armed with.

[ The signs have been clear as day for anyone who's actually looking. Snake hasn't been able to travel the entire colony, but even in the small portion of it that he's seen, he's noticed the way that some aliens are made to wait on others.

So between this colony, the slave outpost, and that planet way back where Snake had been corralled into that fighting ring, it's become more and more obvious that the galaxy doesn't have much consideration for people's free will. He's sick of it. ]

They need all the help they can get. Especially knowing who out there is a sympathetic party, someone who would back their cause. Some businesses profit from the practice and some refuse. The C.I.S.M. needs to know who would be on their side morally.

Slavery's been a little bit of a problem. Not too long ago, some of us were captured and sold on a colony. Luckily a crew effort retrieved everyone that had been lost. There are slaves being sold here as well, and it worries me.

Good to know. We're trying to find a way to heighten their defenses, give them some sort of security options that they didn't have before that would make creating an extraction system a viable option. I suspect most of the criminals that deal in the slave trade are armed.

There are sympathetic businesses that will cooperate with the C.I.S.M. They can help get them out, return home, find new places to go, establish themselves here if those aren't options. They've had the resources, just no one actively pushing them to put them into practice.

[ he'd made something of a scene at one of their protests earlier in the week - ripped up a sign and threw it back at a man, calling him a spineless hipster, doing it for the sake of saying they did it. they'd had people like this in his world, where andyr'd been a slave, where he still is one, because displacing him doesn't make it any less true. they'd make signs and take overnight stays in prison, but did any of them ever try to raid the houses to actually help the people being tortured there? did andyr see a single on of them cross the hapsburg threshold to do anything outside of shout their opinions? no. the only one ever trying to save him was himself. so fuck these people, honestly. ]

There's always something you can do, just takes risking more than they probably want to.

[He can understand the anger. But that's why Kaz did what he did. Rather than storm away, he stomped into the middle and started organizing an effort. In the end, he might be inviting trouble on them, but he wants to think in the long run, a show of their skills would do them more good than harm. Especially if it's mostly to put the power in the hands of these people.]

[His brand is gone from where they sold him on the outpost. But he still feels everything that came with it, and revenge still tastes sweet.]

They're taking the risks now. I just want to be relatively quiet about it on the network.

Other crew are helping organize an underground railroad. We're also trying to figure out what the criminal organizations have for weapons.

Provide escape routes for the slaves, strategically weaken their vendors, give some of these people the tools they need to fight. Defense training, sabotage, stealth. They're ready to learn. They just needed the push. With no laws or government to protect them, until now might has equaled right.

A simple plan.

An "underground railroad", allowing slaves to escape their owners unnoticed by creating safe routes and areas of neutrality. Training some members of the movement in combat and stealth so they can assist in this and in handling the criminals that engage in the trade. Interfering with the economic advantages of slavery and giving businesses with better employment policies the edge.

Sounds more complex than it is, but they're willing. It makes all the difference.
