[It's not often that Kaz does video posts, mostly because he doesn't think they're always necessary and he's used to a radio presence. This time, though, he shows his face. He's wearing his Moira uniform, but still with his Diamond Dogs beret and his sunglasses. He also has a custom made coat to go with it, a pair of gloves (only visible when he puts his hand into frame) meant to keep his prosthetic completely hidden, and is generally pretty well kept in a blond El Che kind of way. He's currently outside of the training sim room.]

Many people know me, but in case you don't, I'm Kazuhira Miller and I'm your new Head of Defense. Jim Barnes the younger has been assigned as my assistant.

This ship, as we all well know by this point, is not a safe ship. It's constantly faced with threats inside and out. Even if there were a firm sense of unity, a loyalty to the uniform, it wouldn't last. This most recent incident, like others before, proves that beyond a doubt. All it takes is a little outside influence an we're reverted to another state, another line of thought. We can disappear and come back for the worse. People can come in with diseases, with conditions they can't help, or with no reason to respect other members of the ship.

Because it's not a safe place [he resists pacing] I need some cooperation to make this ship more secure. I need some defense personnel willing and equipped to take reports on damage and question witnesses to come to me for assignments to investigate past incidents. Especially some recent ones. Also for some of our training specialists, be on hand for some new students. I'll try to direct more people to you.

It's not going to be possible to completely secure a ship like this travelling through the zones it's going through, so we got a pretty difficult job. But we don't have to accept it as it is, and there are past mistakes we can and should avoid repeating. I also want to hear ship defense ideas that can be organized and passed on to the captains...

Tell me about your current safety and security measures. Safeguarding information and valuables, zones of retreat during ship combat, so on and so forth. I would also like to request some additional services for anyone planning to engage attackers. Armor, weapons, scanners, medical training and gear to tide them over until assigned and volunteer medics can arrive.

Um, I don't really know, for certain. I don't know if Manasseh has- had? has? a plan for everyone if something happens. I never really realized how many people fall under "Navigation," and they're all over the ship.

[ Starflight is looking extremely nervous at this point, wringing his claws together. He wasn't prepared for this line of questioning and it showed.]

I- I guess the plan would be to retreat for Navigation or the engines to make sure they don't stop working if something happens? Because if the ship stops functioning we would be in huge trouble. I'm pretty sure Manasseh has- had- a body guard but not anyone else? And I don't know what kind of valuables there would be other than the equipment, and the navigation files are locked down already so no one can really get them.

And, um, I'm not really sure I understand that last bit. You want people in each department who can fight?

[Hopefully he doesn't expect that to be the department heads because if that's the case Navigation is sure out of luck.]

For anyone willing to engage attackers of any department. I'm want to equip my own, too, but I know it won't just be mine that fight. Armor and technology would do a lot to keep our people out of harm. I'm also hoping for areas of retreat for those that can't attack, defensible strongholds or hidden areas.

[He's engaging in safety discussions with a dragon. He's going to conduct this professionally and as intelligently as possible, but there's something about the mere existence of the situation that is incredibly novel. Luckily at this point he's mostly used to it, but sometimes he has to take that moment to marvel.]

Equipment can count as a valuable. From what I gather, this ship is exceptional in itself. People will want it.

I suppose I could, um, take a survey and find out who can help? I'm still learning who everyone in the department is. I didn't really need to know beyond the actually navigation team before. But I can think of a few people who could probably help.

I guess in that case, both of those areas would be important to defend in an emergency. But if we have people all over the ship, I don't know if there's really a single safe point for Navigation crew to go.

[Considering he's responsible for the guy's death, after all. But what on this ship isn't weird? He just spent like two weeks as a very confused, very angry twelve-year-old, trying to cover up his confusion with bravado.

I can certainly double my efforts to stick my nose in everything. After all, it's not where it doesn't belong if it's my job.

There was an incident involving the Cybertronian "Megatron", where he regressed to an earlier and more dangerous point in time. I need more information on it and all the people involved. Someone can help you out if they want to.

You have so far. But like I mentioned, we can't really always control what affects us. [Case in point.] It was during that, yes. [At least his younger self didn't embarrass him too badly.]

Bring me back whatever I can. [He has to figure out how to secure those areas where a lot of fighting breaks out, and to maintain order among the cybertronians. A tall order.]

To be honest, this is also the information I need.

Tower won't necessarily be doing defensive measures of our own outside the norm: that's your job. However, we'll be keeping track of everyone else's status and passing along whatever intel we acquire.

Is there anything on external threats? So far, we keep running into locations that are dangerous. There has to be some details around the ship, or something the captains can direct us towards.

I would like to know what to prioritize when doing prep work.

Nothing has been given to me specifically, but there is an historian and a scout... they just work for other areas. The scout seems to have signed up under Navigation. I really don't know whether the Captains were using him before, but they should be, and we should have plans to extract him where it's necessary.

Still, that won't help if a situation develops into something dangerous after seeming relatively innocuous on the surface, as at Del Pascia.

Uh huh... Anyway, I say we start making weapon and defense training a bit more mandatory for those willing to fight. Right now it's optional, but uh... I think we can do better.

Historically, MedBay has served as a safe zone and appears to have held up well in that capacity. [ He's thinking specifically about the latest Caducian situation. ]

We have basic medic kits for field work, they have a base inventory and are designed to be customized to planet and personnel needs as comes. There is also basic medic training available to anyone who would like to pursue it.

[ It's not deep into the details of what Medical is capable of but Adrien uses this as a start, trying to figure Miller out a little. ]

Good, I definitely want anyone that'll fight in an emergency, regardless of their department, to have some rudimentary understanding of first aid. It won't do any good for people to go down in a combat situation and not be able to receive immediate help to keep them stable.

[He's planning on adding onto whatever security measures exist as it is.]

I want to send someone in to test it as a safe zone. See where the weaknesses are and their ability to get past them, so they can be augmented in the future.

Something else. Our ship stopped at an abandoned prison, and the transports started warning us of a contagion. While nothing has turned up among those exposed yet, I don't trust that situation to remain. Especially with some of the other transmittable diseases I've encountered.

Even if you can't find out details on it immediately, I'd like to know there was a quarantine area prepared for use.

There is a designated quarantine room attached as part of the MedBay facility. [ Adrien explained. ]

[ As a stealth operative, Snake is willing to fulfill every part of that position. Too bad there isn't always much need for it.

Still, the fact that he's submitting himself to someone else's orders is a pretty big deal, but it hardly takes any consideration at all when it's someone like Miller who he'll be answering to. ]

[After their previous conversations he's grateful for that, because he knows what he's gone through with people he's trusted. At one point, Kaz let him down. This is his chance to make up for that somewhat by being genuine with him.]

I can use it. There are areas of the ship we need more defensible during lockdown. I want them put under lockdown drills and for you to see if you can find weak points in security.

Avoid any fully restricted areas of the ship for the time being. We have no idea what's behind those locked doors.

[He wants a better idea before going near those. But his phrasing there expresses his intention to do so.]

[ Being as prepared as possible for any other attacks, whether internal or external, sounds like a worthwhile endeavor to Snake. ]

So what, you lock an area down and I see if I can get through its defenses?

[ It's like performing a stress test, and it'll allow Snake to stretch some of his sneaking muscles at the same time.

He's interested in those other, inaccessible areas too, but he understands if Miller wants to put that off for now. There's not much they can do against the supernatural, anyway. ]

I'm not going to hold it against your race personally. Just know that I do want some ideas to better deal with them when they start fights because the damage is considerably larger than what most organics could accomplish. [Most.] At the very least I would like some sort of stun weapon. Something that wouldn't cause damage.

We have an exceptional R&D team here. I think they could manage it if you would help them.

While I understand the need for a weapon to incapacitate, I'd like to preface what I'm about to say with the fact that our race has a...poor history...when it comes to involving Earthlings, and organics in general, with out interpersonal conflicts. My concern is that a weapon designed to incapacitate could also easily be modified to do much worse.

It's not that I don't trust you. It's that there are precedents for this where I come from.

I would be more than happy to work with you on the development on such a device, however, I ask that we negotiate terms to its use. And on that note, I do have another idea.

I would like to put together a small task force made of like-minded organics and Cybertronians alike. They will be thoroughly vetted and trained in the usage of such devices. Given the way you carry yourself, is it safe to assume you have a background in the military? If so, I'd be more than happy to work with you in training a small group of people for this.

Previously, I worked with navigation, coding and decoding messages, but that's recently changed and I've found myself now assigned as a Defense Specialist. [Which she's personally more pleased with. While she's great at coding, she'd much rather be doing something that feels productive, and helping train others definitely falls under that.]

Even so, I'd be happy to assist elsewhere, as necessary.

Nothing really wrong with coding, true. I knew a Navajo code-talker. A good man. But we can always use defense specialists.

No, I agree. I spent several years in coding, back home. But my brother always said I was meant to fight, and I can't say he was wrong. [She wanted a life of adventure. She just hated it took his death to finally push her in that direction.]

I have a military background. I was trained essentially to be a spy, but I'm capable of more than that. My skills include, but aren't limited to, hand-to-hand, firearms, and covert work.
