Attention crew: This is Peridot, Militus rank crew member of Mero #011. I am sending you this message to officially announce the implementation of the new library cataloging system.
[ Pause for effect. ]
Thanks to the efforts of yours truly, and to some input from the Elizabeth Dewitt, you should now all have access to a brand new digital database of the library's full and complete contents through your MIDs.
This new system will replace the sad, archaic catalog card system that was being used previously, and I think you will all find that it will streamline your library experience quite nicely. Aside from being a mere tool for locating materials on the shelves within the library's walls, it hosts many other new features as well. Among these, you can now browse the library's contents by author, title, keyword, genre and other parameters, as well as place requests for materials, check to see if a book is currently being borrowed by another crew member, and keep track of your due dates.
As before, the limit on holding an item is exactly two Earth weeks from the date and time of your checkout. Those who go over this time limit without returning or renewing the item will be subjected to the system's built in disciplinary function.
[ What she means by that is that if you keep a book for more than two weeks, the very second you are over your allotted time, your MID will flash an angry message on screen, and a recording of the little gem's voice will screech at you to "return your stupid books already, you clod!" and it probably won't stop until you either fix the issue, or a Captain's sends out a message, which would override the program. ]
If you have any questions about the new program, please address them to either myself, or to Head Librarian Elizabeth.
Thank you.
[[ooc: feel free to respond to this post with any ic questions your character may have, and Peridot (or maybe Elizabeth?) will respond accordingly.]]

[Jacky felt a smidge bad.]

[ She's not even offended really. Just carrying on the conversation. ]

[Sigh.]
I know you're right. But honestly, given the option, I think I'll stick to what's familiar right now.

[Thoughtlessly, Jacky continued:] I used to have this real prime Emerald once, fit perfectly in me bellybutton, too.

[ None of what she just heard makes a lick of goddamn sense to her. What. ]
In your what?

[Lifting the cuff back up to her face, Jacky tilted her head inquisitively.] Is 'no chip off your facets' your people's way of saying 'no skin off my nose'? [Jacky likes learning languages, even if Peridot's equivalents for feet still make no goddamn sense.]

Why would you do something like that!?

Honestly? I were riding high on the first successful raid my ship pulled off, and a girl's gotta have fun, yeah?
