[After the battle and the damage has been done, Doc Yewll decides to give an all clear for the Med Bay. And address the damn weird problem happening.]

If you need medical treatment, come to the Med Bay as soon as you can.

Not sure how to take care of this glass problem yet. [Yet. Surely there's some record of this, somewhere.] We have some coverings we can use for it, though. I'd already been using force-fields for some of our artificial limbs, so if you need that, I can create some for you that would protect whatever fine crystal you got stuck with. I can also try to create some synthetic skin that's coated on the inside, but you'll have to be pretty damn careful with it.

[She's not even being catty this time, but she probably had a hell of a "windex" rant already, yelled at some inanimate objects converted to glass as if that would help anything.]

I promise we'll be looking into it. This is what I can give you for now.

I haven't finished unpacking yet but I picked up some items back on the Collective that we will probably find useful; sooner rather than later.

We also have something called Medigel. Someone was nice enough to donate a sample for replication.

The ficialskin could come in really useful here but I'm going to have to come up with a hell of an undercoating to make sure this glass doesn't shatter. Can you help me figure out how much pressure or frequency these new organs can take without shattering?

The Regen Buds might come in useful as well. Though I still want to read on those.

[ Seriously, he'd just been grabbing whatever he could talk someone into letting him buy. ]

Alright, working my way up to Medbay.

[ It could go unspoken that the Moira was a bit of a mess and he was pausing here and there as he made his way along. ]

Thanks. I'll be digging away at this and getting some of the surgical drones ready. Go after whatever glass is safe to get out of people.

[She smears her hands down her face, though the only sound indicating it is the rustle of cloth and muffled breath.]

Glad we got a bigger team for this.

Getting the glass out won't be the long term issue. [ He said, though he suspected she knew that already and was focusing on the immediate concerns that could be managed. ]

We probably want to keep a line of communication open to the technological and engineering folks who will be dealing with this from the ship side. One of our teams may trip over something that can aid the other and visa versa.

[ Hey, people developing glass ... anything was a new one on him. He'd be looking in every crook and cranny for information and ideas. ]

[She makes a note to contact Peridot, since the gem knows more about living minerals than anyone else she knows on the ship. She might be able to get some answers.]

[When Adrien arrives, though, she's already spraying some test-sealants on panels of microscope sample glass.]

You come out of it alright? [She says without looking up and with her back to him, as if she saw him. But the truth is she probably did. The hovering drone near her has a good view of what's going on around them.]

I'm fine. [ He said, simple and too the point. Physically speaking, he wasn't being stupidly stoic or anything, her drone could report that all limbs appeared normal on the doctor, no extra glass limbs or anything odd looking.

He'd at least changed out of the uniform he'd worn over to the Caducian ship, the blood soaked uniform, and taken the time to get a shower. Food and sleep were overrated, though when he eventually learned about the coffee shortage there were going to be tears. ]

How many casualties have we had so far?

Five have been reported to me. Three monsters and two humans. Tally's growing though.

They took the greater damage. God these people were fucking idiots. [She's so angry, can't help it. Not only was their ship damaged and their crew wounded, the enemy basically threw themselves onto a meaningless sword.]

We'll want to be careful about these parts. If the Ingress is fixed, there's a chance we can repair the people and the ship. I'd hate to do a full transplant and then end up with the glass changing back.

Temp fixes would probably be better for a little while.

[ Adrien was quiet as he allowed Yewll to rant about the situation with the Caducians. He agreed. He whole heartedly agreed, but when their enemy had turned on them, it hadn't stopped him from dispatching them, wholesale.

Now, however, he didn't want to think about it. So he let Yewll talk, even as he walked over to get a visual on what they had to work with so far. ]

We should probably come up with how we want to explain the risks to people, so they can make informed decisions for whether they want to pursue an immediate solution or ... live with the changes until, as you say, the Ingress is fixed.

[ If the Ingress was fixed. He'd keep that bit of pessimism to himself for the time being. ]

Though it would probably help if we had an understanding of the risks.

So far I've been encouraging people to wait a couple of weeks until we're sure this small thing can't be fixed. Not if it's not a vital organ. [That's where they run into trouble.]

I'm talking to Bruce Banner about it, and I can probably get in touch with Tali. The last Ingress we visited would combine worlds. In some cases, one seamlessly unified. But when it started malfunctioning it conjured up things like-

[She gestures towards the Med Bay door, meaning the rest of the ship.]

So I think we can get an understanding, we just gotta get more researchers on the case. There's an actual, real chance we might be able to do something about this. At least the merged people.

[ Leaning against a counter, Adrien listened to Yewll without looking directly at her. His eyes were cast down at the floor as he considered what she was saying. ]

I don't doubt we'll have plenty of hands on the issue. [ He agreed, arms crossed over his chest as he scowled. ]

I know about Banner and Stark is looking into the engineering side of things because if the engines or life support fail, due to a weak joint point, we're not going to have to worry about waiting a couple of weeks; we're all dead regardless.

[ Happy times. He did finally glance over at her, brows furrowing. ]

So we ... what? Treat the symptoms for now?

Unless they insist on something permenant immediately, yeah. I think we should treat symptoms.

[She stands to pace, finally, sick of staying in one spot, and needing to let her samples set for testing.]

I've got good experiences with Banner. I'll mention it to him. Don't know Stark too well, but Peridot has a little bit of a bonus. "Fusions" are kind of a thing with her people. She was kind enough to supply me with some information, but not enough for me to use on my own to work out possible solutions.

...I should probably check on our therapist too. [She rubs one of her rounded eyesockets.]

Also... not that I particularly like to be hurt, I don't. But if there's a risky situation that's too rough for human conditions, Ratchet's holoform can go in, and I can take more damage and survive in a harsher environment. [In case someone needs to be pulled out of somewhere glassy, she means.]

[ Adrien frowned ... okay he frowned more than usual. After a moment, he gave his head a shake and lifted his right hand, tapping a plain blue and silver enamel ring that rested on his middle finger. ]

This provides me with shielding for ten minutes, very effective shielding. I have no concerns about going anywhere dangerous.

[ The ring and a self-destructive streak a mile wide. However, he wasn't even acknowledging that last bit, even though it had probably seen him taking unreasonable risk over on the Caducian ship. ]

I'm not sold on taking a reactive stance. I can and will treat symptoms as requested, but I'm going to reach out to some of these people and prioritize researching a more permanent solution. Is that information you have already uploaded to the MedBay systems?

Are you suggesting I'm not looking for a permanent solution? [She says quickly in response to that.]

There are some people with crucial organs damaged that do need permanent solutions. No matter what, those are the ones that need prioritized. Our resources are shot so we need to focus on them anyway.

[ Adrien merely arched an eyebrow. ]

I'm not suggesting anything of the sort. I'm acknowledging your approach to the situation and offering you insight into what my own will be in an effort to ensure we have an understanding of what each is doing in this.

As you said, we have some patients who are going to require immediate intervention and some patients who will be able to manage until a universal solution can be determined.

[One thing is for sure. If she can, she's going to try to keep more people from losing body parts again. Whatever she can do. The Ingress might right itself. But that's not something she's counting on, either.]

There were also some journals left by the Ingress Keeper. We picked them up. Hopefully they'll give us some edge in working this out because the ship needs to be fixed just as badly as the people.

Speaking of which...

We should also prepare for cases of people being exposed to the vacuum. [Because the glass in some places can't hold forever.]

[ It's on the tip of his tongue to point out that most people exposed to the vacuum of space simply failed to survive. But he remembered that there was a wide range of species aboard the Moira so in the end he just nodded, already starting to chase his own thoughts.

Straightening, he was going to head for one of the labs when something she'd said stopped him and he turned back to Yewll. ]

Journals kept by the Ingress Keeper? Do you know what they talked about?

We know that her raw computer files had to do with the worlds people used the Ingress to visit. But her journals probably had more information on the actual experimentation.

Anyway.

[She slams her hand down on the glass sample she just sprayed, picks it up, and holds it to show Dr. Arbuckal.] At least we got a little something extra to hold things together. I'll leave the undercoat spray out.

[ Oh for fuck's sake.

Shoving his hands into his pockets, Adrien ignored the undercoat spray and looked at Yewll instead. ]

Quick question. Are you this difficult with all your co-workers? Working with you is becoming increasingly difficult and at this time we are all going to need to have one another's backs.

That doesn't mean we have to be friends but I'd like to know if this is just how you are or if it's something personal?

So far you're the one that's had the biggest problem with me. But yes, it's how I am. And I am working with you or I wouldn't be talking to you right now.

But if you would prefer I didn't work with you, I can accommodate.

[She crosses her arms and watches him.]

[ He gave a small duck of his head, indicating her latter words. ]

That, right there is the point of contention. You've made some snap judgement, in our first conversation and just now and I'll be the first to admit that no, I don't react well to those.

But if you're saying, that is just how you are then I need to know so I can accommodate for it. Because our not working together is a recipe for disaster for this crew. There at least needs to be a clear line of communication between Medical to ensure we're not working at cross purposes.

[ He paused for a moment and then followed his words with action; in a manner of speaking. ]

If I had a serious issue with you, I wouldn't have very specifically sought out an olive branch and brought it aboard the ship back at the Collective. I understand our initial foot got off wrong, but I did attempt to make amends, because whatever it is you believe of me, this crews' survival is my paramount priority.

Believe it or not, I did try to talk to you too.

Maybe I can explain something better here. [She holds up her hand and inhales deeply.] I'm an Indogene. As an Indogene, I'm a member of an organic race created for slave labor. This slave labor means merging with technology and thinking in an overly ordinate manner, and that includes constantly compartmentalizing and dividing and setting aside emotions.

I'm a computer. Made of organic flesh. But essentially, a computer. What is a snap judgement to you is me needing to immediately clarify terms.

[She used to be more artistic, poetic, affectionate. But she's set those emotions so far back into the back of her mind she actually forgot how her wife died at one point.]

Believe me. It's not you.

To me or at me? The line is a little [ He waggled his hand and for once his expression was actually ... relaxed. Hey if anyone could understand struggles with word intention at times it was Adrien. He sucked at them.

But he fell quiet then, listening attentively to her explanation and ... yes ... all of that made a lot of sense and explained more than a little about her personality. Particularly the slave labor part, which saw him wince. That was one personal point upon which he was more than a bit passionate.

Funny, wasn't it, how the outlets she probably needed the most were the ones she'd shut herself off from? Like he was one to talk.

Adrien briefly considered trying to explain his own situation but he couldn't come near the succinct way in which Yewll had managed it and given his current head space, he pushed it aside instead. Instead, he gave a nod. ]

That was what I needed to understand. [ He said quietly. ] I can appreciate compartmentalizing and the need to keep moving forward.

For myself, I may not always agree with your direction but if I understand your process then I can and I will support it and you. Just understand that I will also pursue my own paths.

[It would probably help immensely, but she'd only allowed herself one friend. A career criminal, at that. One she even thinks is dead. Here there are a lot of people that like, but she never lets them get too close.]

Right. Yeah, I get it. I do. And there are a lot of ways to protect and replace the parts on these people.

But in this case, I genuinely believe this can be reversed. One hundred percent.

I think the only way to cure some of these situations is going to be a complete reversal. [ Adrien agreed with that, before adding. ]

But what concerns me is I believe we're going to need the Ingress to do it.
