[ The feed starts with Bruce sitting in what looks like a large high-tech sort of place, from the glimpses one can get from the background. Despite the hint of tiredness that still lingers, after being so busy throughout the first half of the month, he actually looks happy, or at the very least pleased with himself. ]
Hi, everyone. To those of you who don't know me yet, I'm Bruce Banner, as of recently Moira's Chief Science Officer. I hope everyone's recovering well from everything that's happened, though I still recommend anyone who got injured to drop by the medbay and get checked out. Even if you'll be alright on your own, there are ways to ease your suffering and to even heal your wounds faster, and there's nothing wrong with accepting a little help sometimes.
[ Looking at a couple of specific people here, by the way. You know who you are. ]
On another note, the Science Department's been running since the beginning of the month. I've been a little busy but it's starting to come together now. If anyone wants to come by and check it out, feel free to. I know more than just a few of you have an interest in the kind of work that will be done here.
The thing is, it's just me for now, and it would be useful to have a few more Science Officers on the ship. So, if that's something that would interest you and you think you have the knowledge, feel free to apply for the job. I'd love to have people around to work with. [ He smiles a little at the camera, then he adds: ] If science is your thing, you'll want to join in.
[ Look he needed a slogan to lure people in, alright? Just... be charmed by his awkward smile and his dorky attempt at a joke and let's call it a day. ]
(( ooc: Read up on the Science Department, and if your character's all about science and would consider a job change, join in! In the meantime, he'll also be around the Science Department, if anyone prefers to just drop by and say hi instead of replying to the broadcast. ))

[ he's already been making notes about this place as it is, seeing as it's so different from his own world. but this is intriguing! ]
The technology and some of the science on this ship is pretty new to me, but I'd still love to see the facilities. I don't know what sort of skills you'll find useful, most of my knowledge is chemical, but I've picked up a few things along the way!
video;
[ And Bruce is looking for colleagues as much as people interested in learning more. ]
You're new around here, I take it?
no subject
[ he's very fortunate to have people like Winry and the team at Central to help take care of him and Al when they're hurt. ]
Yeah, I arrived with my brother. We're just trying to do as much research as we can -- this place as a lot to offer! [ what they're researching, though, could really be anything with these boys, but Edward wants to find a way to get their bodies back to normal. ]
no subject
[ He nods. It was easy to tell he was a new arrival - over time, one gets used to spotting them right away. ]
That's a good way to look at things. [ Most people focus on the bad aspects, rather than what they can take from the experience. Bruce had been like that at first himself, still is at times, but he's grown to see good things in being on the Moira too. ] So what's your name?
no subject
[ he grins, a fiery determination written into his expression. ]
Oh! I'm Edward Elric, it's nice to meet you. [ science talk got him distracted from actual manners, sorry Bruce. ] I've already spent some time in the library doing research. There's a lot of material to get through. Mind if I come see the labs sometime today? I won't get in the way, though, I'll make sure of that. I can probably explain my knowledge a little bit better, too. One of those seeing is believing, you know? [ he laughs. ]
no subject
[ Recognition flashes in Bruce's eyes at the name. ] I've met your brother, then, I think. Alphonse? He's been here already, earlier today. [ He tips his head a little. ] So, are you an alchemy user? He told me that's... a thing, in your world.
no subject
[ he grins a little brighter, nodding his head. ] Sounds like him all right. I think he probably knows everyone around here by now. [ he laughs. ] Yeah, I use alchemy. That's really what I meant about seeing and believing. I've done a lot of research on the science behind it, the theories. Maybe I could be of some use.
no subject
He told me a little bit about that, about alchemy in your world. We don't really have that kind of thing, not in the same sense that you do. The word isn't foreign to me, though, nor the concept— it's just an impossibility, in the version of Earth I come from. [ He nods. ] But I agree, yes. You could have an interesting take on things, and if nothing else I'd love to learn more about the process.
no subject
[ he shrugs, glancing around him. it's still baffling, and he can't wrap his mind around the science of it all yet, but he's working on it. ] Yeah, I wouldn't mind telling you about it. We've done a lot of work, and we're still not done but it's better than nothing. Are you busy now? Mind if I come take a look?

video - action;
Hello? [ he doesn't want to startle anyone, and he definitely doesn't want to interrupt anything. but waiting just inside the entry is a short, blond haired kid. nothing at all like the hulking giant of metal his brother is, after all. ]
no subject
Hi. Ed, right? [ Just to make sure. ] I'm Bruce.
no subject
Yeah, I'm Ed! Nice to meet you. [ he smiles and offers out a hand, and if they shake? it will be very clear that under the white gloves he wears the hand is not quite flesh, but metal. ]
This is really great.
no subject
Even if said questions will likely happen eventually. ]
It's starting to come together now. I'll admit I'm pretty pleased about it. [ It's still looking somewhat empty and quiet, especially when Bruce is the only one working here so far, but that only gives Ed the time and freedom to look around and check things out as he pleases. ]
As they say, make yourself at home. I don't have anything too interesting to show you yet, as far as work and experiments go, but feel free to ask any questions you might have.
no subject
Yeah, it's awesome! Though I have to say it's almost as cool as the library, and the library is pretty awesome.
[ he grins a bit, shrugging his shoulders. it's a wonder he's not in the library right now tearing through the books, but even he needs a break sometimes. ] I can help make things, if you need more to put in the room. Or I can try, anyway, I haven't tried too much here on the ship. Metal is great but there's not as much to move around.
[ Edward wanders at first, peering around, scrutinizing everything. ] What kinds of things do you plan to work on here?
no subject
[ He's kidding, obviously. Even if he does think the science department is more interesting and impressive than the library, he knows it's a matter of interest and perspective. Of course some people wouldn't find this place at all cool or even remotely welcoming, while they might feel more at home surrounded by books.
And Ed is right; the library on board is amazing. ]
Your brother already contributed, actually. [ Still smiling, he gestures at a statue by the corner, a rough copy of Bruce himself. Far from a narcissist, but he was touched by the gesture nonetheless, and to him it's an impressive piece, a concrete proof that alchemy is possible, at least here. Besides, Bruce wants to run some tests on it, know what it's made of and how the composition's been altered exactly, which is the main reason why he keeps it around. ]
Keeping an eye on the ship and our surroundings, mostly. Any other project I feel like picking up, I will too. One of the things I've been thinking of is building a holographic map of our journey, and the planets we visit from this point onwards.
no subject
[ he shrugs, stuffing his hands into his pockets. its when he notices the statue that he laughs. ] Hey, he did a pretty good job, huh? [ he approaches the statue and looks up at it, then back to Bruce. ] I guess he must really like you, to make a whole statue out of you. Unless you requested it. [ there's something impish in the way he talks, almost like he's expecting Bruce requested it. sort of.
he's a childish jerk, sometimes, sorry. ] Missing something, though. Can't let my little brother have all the fun! [ and he claps his hands together, the sound ringing, and touches his hands to the wall the statue sits nearby. in a flash of electricity and light, the words "THE BANNER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT" pop out of the metal above the statue, framing it, large and a touch silly. ]
There, that looks about right. [ a shrug. ] A map sounds like a good idea though. Can see where we're headed, at least, or if we go in circles.
no subject
[ And by that, Bruce means he can find a few things for Ed to fiddle with here. Nothing remotely critical or dangerous, but still something interesting and useful enough. ]
I didn't, no. He kind of just... went with that.
[ Bruce doesn't mind, it was pretty nice. But it's definitely a little awkward having a statue of himself around. It probably looks like he commissioned it from someone too, which couldn't be any farther from the truth. He looks at Ed when he mentions something missing, his attention stolen when he recognizes the same flash of light, impressed for the second it takes him to see what Ed just did. ]
Wow. That's... [ Embarrassing? Terrible? Absolutely unnecessary? ] Not... really accurate?
bruce is such a team player.
Ed looks back at his work, and of course he knows it's ridiculous, probably a little too much for someone he just met, but hey, it does at least go well with the statue. ]
It isn't? [ he shrugs, not looking too terribly heartbroken before he claps his hands again and with a flicker of light, the text actually changes back into smooth paneled walls and ceiling. it looks as if nothing changed at all! ] Your face was pretty great, though. I don't want to mess with Al's work too much -- he did a pretty good job on the statue here.
[ a broad, grin. ] Sorry, I sort of wanted to see if my alchemy acted differently in this place, too. It's pretty weird to be here at all, really.
:>
He did. It's not something I'd have asked for myself, but I was pretty impressed.
[ He shakes his head. ] No need to apologize. I find all this fascinating, so I welcome any opportunity I get to see it in action. [ A pause, ] So, how is it? Any different from home?
no subject
That's Al for you, though. Should have seen some of the stuff he made when we were younger. It got pretty creative.
[ he smiles, affection in his voice for his brother. but there's a strange sadness there, too, a flicker quick across Ed's face, but it fades. ]
Not any differently, no. I'll have to learn a little bit more about this place, what things are made of. Just about finding things that are natural, that aren't overly synthetic anyway. It can change how it works. I have to understand the chemicals and properties of the things I transmute, you see? At least basically.
no subject
[ Said honestly. Bruce can tell from the statue alone that Al's talented, and he seems to enjoy what he does too. Alchemy or not, he figures he'd be good at this kind of creative work. ]
Yes, Al explained that to me. You know we have machines here that can examine any given thing and tell you exactly what it's made of? Not just solid things, either. But you could definitely use it to get to know certain objects you're not familiar with and learn what they're made of. If you don't know the different compounds, you could learn more about those too.
