[Dutch is sitting in the galley in one of the chairs, her feet propped up on another unoccupied chair. In her hand she holds a beer. There’s a pleasant smile on her face.]

Hello, fellow space travelers. I’m Dutch Velders, your new welding tech.

[She takes a long drink from her bottle of beer, looking off into space for a moment as if she’s thinking about something, but she snaps back to attention with that same smile on her face.]

I don’t suppose anyone came through here with a deck of cards? I find that poker makes for an excellent ice-breaking activity. Not that working side-by-side with you and sharing a room with some of you hasn’t already served as a brilliant ice breaker. Just... When you have the time, we should participate in a leisure activity together.

[Dutch wiggles her eyebrows playfully and just smiles at the camera for a good couple of seconds.] 
What do you say, spacefolk?

[It takes a few tries for Oren to get this working. There's a flicker of him trying to jab at the MID a few times, and then it shuts off completely. It turns on again, his hand hovering over the keys before he realizes he's gotten it to work and relaxes back a little.]

There we are! I think. You can hear me, can't you? [He tests a small wave.]

Captains gave me deck of cards as, ahhh, gesture of appreciation for good behaviour. Or something like that.

I could trade them away. Buuut, they're not exactly used to play poker.

Perfectly! [Dutch answers, smiling broadly. Honestly, she's just happy to have gotten a response from someone. Her mother was the one to always stress the importance of building relationships, but such lessons stuck with Dutch. Now she's just out to make friends in this new place she's stuck in.]

Who do I have the honor of speaking to, hmm?

Oooh... [Dutch frowns slightly at that.] I'm afraid I haven't really accumulated much that I could trade them for. The Ingress even took my bloody boots.

Now I'm curious, though. What kind of cards are they?

Great.

[Good news, then. He can somehow find a way of using this thing! He was beginning to grow bored, so this was good news.]

My name is Oren, and the pleasure is certainly mine, Dutch. I'm afraid I don't have cards, though. [He laughs.] My suggestion would have been the bar, but it seems you found that just fine on your own.

Poker?

[The cowboy smiles.]

Well now yer talkin'. Don't have a deck of cards, but if you get some, you could deal me in.

[J shows her a deck of moving tarot cards, with a completely unamused look on her face]

I honestly don't know what they were thinking when giving these to me. I certainly hope I don't look like a some nutjob, voodoo lady.

Well, it's very nice meeting you, Oren. [She manages a salute even with the bottle of beer in her hand.]

Yes, it seems that even on this vessel bars seem to call to me. [Dutch chuckles a little bit. She's not exactly an alcoholic, but she sure does love a good beer buzz during the off-hours of the day.]

[Dutch watches, amazed with the cards. They're certainly not what she was looking for, but they're like nothing she's ever seen before.]

Huh. They're not exactly playing cards, but they are pretty nifty.

[She nods in approval. The other woman does not look like a nutjob, voodoo lady, but the cards are pretty cool.]

That's the name of the game!

[Dutch laughs, then taking another drink from her bottle.]

Well, I'll keep my eyes peeled for cards if you do, too. Deal?

[She tilts her head forward slightly as if she's expecting an answer.]

Sure thing. Would be nice to get a game going.

Oh, I'm quite sure a good number of us have a preference for it.

[Who doesn't enjoy a good drink now and then?] But I happen to prefer something a little sweeter than what I can only assume is your typical beer. [That's what she has, right? Everything's so different with all this labeling! He leans a little closer as if to try and see.]

I may see you there some time.

Nifty is a good word, yes. [She waves the deck in front of the camera.]

So how about it? You might lost your boots but surely you have some jewellery on you?

[ A girl with beer and a nice smile. That's something Foggy misses. He practically beams at the screen and is suddenly incredibly homesick for Josie's bar. He half-waves as it clicks on to show himself, still dressed like the lawyer he is. ]

I have a game better than poker if you can't find cards, it's called 'drink until you forget you're in space.'

[ His smile widens. ]

Or, you know, just 'drink.'

Sweeter? [Dutch raises an eyebrow curiously. She could remember something an old friend said about alcohol not being meant to taste good. She'd disagreed, of course, and it seemed Oren would have disagreed, as well.] Are you more of a cocktail person?

[She smiles and raises her beer in a one-person toast.] Here's hoping!

[Dutch taps the small, silver stud in her nose with her index finger.] I'm afraid this is all I've got. I don't think I'm willing to part with it just yet, either, as cool as those cards may be.

[She shrugs her shoulders with a smile.] Perhaps once I've acquired something I'm more willing to give away.

[She nods her head in agreement.] Agreed! What should I call you?

[Dutch can't help but laugh at the mention of Foggy's game.]

I could get behind a game like that! I think I've played another version before, only I called it 'drink until you forget your paintings didn't sell.'

[She shrugs her shoulders, taking another drink from her bottle.]

I figure you just change up the last bit and it's pretty much a universally applicable game.

Ocelot. I just came aboard. Still getting used to the place.

I hope not having a deck isn't a make-or-break for getting to know you. ( ivan grins, an open smile on an affable face. he can appreciate an attractive woman asking for social interaction any day of his life -- trapped on a ship or not. ) All I can offer is the best of what meager drinks we've got on board.

( that he will absolutely steal from behind the bar and not tell his cousin. miles will understand. )

More wine, really, but I do enjoy anything sweet enough. [He certainly would have disagreed. The sweeter the better, and good flavor is always enjoyable. He lifts his hand, mimicking a toast with empty air.]

At least in the midst of everything foreign, there is some familiarity in alcohol.

Ah, wine. I usually only drink wine with meals.

Very true! [She laughs, nodding in agreement. It was why she'd hung out at bars so much back home before everything had gone to hell.]

I hear you. I'm still acclimating, myself.

Of course not. I'm open to other methods of getting to know people, as well. [If that sounds suggestive, it's because it's meant to. Dutch has been known to flirt with strangers and friends alike.]

[Dutch nods her head in greeting with a smile on her face.]

What exactly does a job in Public Relations entail?

Maybe a card game would make the place feel a little more normal. At least for awhile.

Drinks, then? I'm open to all sorts of icebreaking activities, so if you've got a better idea...

( don't hesitate to come up with something or share it. he leans back in his seat, gesturing to the background of navigation around him. )

And you, Dutch. Not much -- we seem to screw up whatever it is we're doing before anyone's capable of making a better impression, and we always leave just when things start to go sideways. So mostly it's just keeping the cool between Communications and Navigation.

I am all about finding ways to make this place feel a little more normal! [She laughs a little bit.]

Drinks sound lovely to start!

[She winces slightly.] Sounds like tricky work. I'm personally grateful my job doesn't directly deal with the people on the ship.

There's a bar here, I've got an in ( his cousin bartends ) that'll get us the best it has to offer. Just name when and I'll be there.

( as for his job -- ivan shrugs. )

It's not so bad. Most people don't want to complain and the majority don't want to hear anyone's complaints. Pretty cushy when it gets boiled down. What's there to even wield here?

( it seems to generally be in good shape, as far as ivan can tell. even small minor repairs don't seem to be a thing.

he's never really thought about it as odd until now, though. )

Artist? I know how you feel. [ Okay he doesn't, really, but he could have been in theatre, man. You should hear his rendition of Pirates of Penzance. ]

Yeah? [Color her interested. She wrinkles her eyebrows together and looks at the screen curiously.] How does your creative streak manifest?

Deal. [She smiles.] Assuming I'll ever find one in this bloody place. If not, we'll find other ways to make our fun, yeah?

Pick a day, any day. [She grins playfully.] Well, preferably not Sunday, Monday, or Saturday mornings because I'm working, but other than that I'm blissfully free.

Honestly? [She shrugs her shoulders. There hasn't been much work to do since her arrival. The ship doesn't need a welding tech as much as she thought it might.] Not much in the way of repairs. Mostly I work on reinforcements.

Wouldn't want all this fun getting in the way of working, would we? ( he grins back at her ) Saturday evening?

Suppose that's good. The moment you do start getting work probably means the ship is falling apart around us.

( and he'd like to avoid that, if at all possible. )

Saturday evening is perfectly fine! [She flashes him a smile and laughs, taking another sip of beer from the bottle.]

Oh, no worries. I mean, it's not exactly my job back home, but I am pretty good at reinforcements. You're all in very good hands. [She nods. Then again, she imagines that vampire proofing windows is a lot less labor intensive than patching up an entire spaceship.]

I'll see you then. ( he grins in return with an analyst's salute -- two fingers touching the side of his temple. ) And I'm sure we are.

I did a stint on broadway.

[ Yeah, he can't even keep a straight face. ]

....That's a lie, the stint was in my bathroom but my showerhead thinks I sound amazing.

[Dutch can't help but chuckle. Foggy has a sense of humor. She can appreciate that.]

I'm sure you're brilliant. I hear showerheads can be tough critics.

Regular Simon Cowells. Is that--is that a thing? In your world? American Idol? Maybe he's a universal consant.

Lord, I hope for the sake of everyone else that Simon Cowell is not a universal constant.

[She laughs.]

That man is awful.
