This is Queen Elsa of Arendelle.

[ She appears on the network calm and composed, no smile or anything, but she hesitates after speaking. She feels a bit awkward about addressing everyone on the ship so soon after her arrival, but it's important. It's an important step in her plan to keep herself at a distance from others, to keep them all safe from her. So here she is, likely to sound like a horribly rude person, but it needs to be done. ]

...I suppose titles have no meaning here anymore. No matter. This is Elsa, and I would simply like to request that those of you on the same deck as me avoid my room. Consider it off limits. I-- I have a certain need for privacy and don't like to be disturbed.

That said, now for those that I work with: please keep your distance from me while we work together. I...wouldn't want anything to happen. By that, I mean I... I have an aversion to touch. It makes me uncomfortable and I wouldn't want to make anyone else uncomfortable, either.

I realize these may seem like odd requests, but they are what I require. Thank you for taking them into consideration and thank you for your time.

[ There's a curt nod, and the video feed cuts off. ]

Oh, I didn't mean anything as drastic as avoiding walking past! I simply meant avoidance in approaching or coming in...

[ She's really realizing now that she should have thought more carefully about her wording in the broadcast. What if people are taking it that way? She didn't mean to restrict anyone from their normal routes or tasks, only to restrict their contact with her!

Biting her lip, Elsa glances downward at the question. Of course that's a concern. It's a huge concern. She's worried most for her roommate of everyone else on the ship--the one who's stuck spending the most amount of time with her in such close proximity. ]

Yes, you assume correctly. It's...been a long time since I've shared a room with anyone, and I-- [ don't want to hurt you ] ...I am worried.

[Elsa still sounds to Rosethorn a lot like someone who has experience with uncontrolled power of one kind or another. Her conversation with Jacky left her aware that not everyone comes from places with magic, but some must, or Rosethorn herself couldn't be here.]

I don't suppose you'd care to tell me what you're worried about? I can come to the room now if you'd rather discuss it in person.

I--

[ She's not certain how to respond to that right away. She doesn't really want to talk about it--not after deciding to try hiding her powers from everyone. But at the same time, this is the person she'll be sharing a room with for who knows how long, and something is bound to happen where her powers get out of control. Even now, the temperature is low and a soft snow is beginning to fall--if Rosethorn came in now unannounced, she'd learn anyway.

So, Elsa makes her decision. She will confide in her roommate, if only because she must. She has little choice in the matter, and...it could be safer for Rosethorn in the long run. ]

It would be easiest to discuss in person, I think.

[Elsa's reluctance is obvious to anyone with eyes, ears, or half a brain. Rosethorn is a little surprised to hear agreement, but then, secrets get awfully hard to keep in close quarters.

She nods.] I'll be there soon. [And she is, knocking on the door as warning before opening it herself and entering.]

Hello, Elsa. [No title, but then, Elsa already showed in her own introduction that she isn't the sort of self-important noble who insists on it with everyone. That bodes well.]

[ The knock on the door has Elsa on her feet, wringing her hands as she watches Rosethorn enter the room. The snow hasn't ceased in falling and has, in fact, started falling more thickly in all Elsa's anxiety. ]

Hello.

[ She returns the greeting a touch weakly, given that her secret has essentially given itself up, and she has no idea how the woman will react to it. Continuing to wring her hands, wanting to keep them from doing anything any worse, she glances around the room, at the snow piling on the floor, and then back at Rosethorn. ]

I...suppose my reason for being worried doesn't necessarily need to be told...

[How Rosethorn will react to it is very calmly. She has a bigger reserve of calm and patience for untrained mages than she does for almost anyone besides the severely sick or injured.

There's no other acceptable response.

When emotion is directly tied to magical power, and there's no other controls in place to keep it from spilling outward, panicking is how people get hurt. Rosethorn is well aware that if she spooks Elsa, the situation will only get worse. She shuts the door behind her so no one else can barge in and be alarmed by the indoor snowstorm.]

You have weather magic, then, but no training? [Her voice and face are both steady, verging on encouraging.]

[ The lack of surprise or...anything really from Rosethorn comes as a shock to Elsa. It's like she's seen something like this before. She just calmly closes the door and speaks, and for a long moment, Elsa just stares at her, disbelieving.

She comes back to after a few seconds though, and offers a small nod. Training? Where would she have ever gotten training? No one else in her homeworld has magic, no one could teach her how to control it, they'd all just...tried to cover it up and pretend it didn't exist. ]

No, I-- I never had any way of receiving training. [ She wrings her hands more tightly. ] No one's ever known how to help me with it.

It's no wonder you wanted to be left alone. [There's no way Elsa reached this age without an accident or two. She'd almost certainly have destroyed property by now, and probably hurt if not outright killed someone. Of course she worries about accidents.]

My magic is very different from yours, but I have a few ideas if you're willing to try them. [There's no way of knowing how different their magics are, not without more experience of Elsa's power. She helped train Tris, of course, but Rosethorn has never even heard of the country Elsa said she was queen of, and there are enough strange things here... First off is seeing whether her wards will even hold Elsa's power. The room will have to be warded if she's going to encourage the girl to do anything over the course of however long they spend here. No one wants her power freezing half the ship.]

[ Elsa doesn't even question the fact that Rosethorn apparently is capable of magic as well. Her focus is solely on the fact that she has some ideas to help, which she's more than willing to try. Any other time, she'd be happy to find another magic-user, but right now... Well, there's a situation going on. ]

Yes, of course! I'm willing to try anything.

[ With her response comes a pained expression and another glance around their room. It's not so much a snowstorm happening as it is an anxious flurry, but it's certainly beginning to pile up on the floor and the beds and everything...

Turning back to Rosethorn, there's a pleading in he voice and her face as she continues; ]

Please just...help me if you can.

First, I'm going to set up what's called a ward. It's a barrier, not a prison. You can cross the line any time you want, but you'll break it and I'll have to set up another. It isn't supposed to contain you. Only your magic. We can do this every night, if it works.

[There are different kinds of wards, but Rosethorn wants to be very clear that this isn't a punishment for Elsa. She has no intention of trying to keep the girl locked up, and she's very deliberately only blocking magical power.

She takes the appropriate jar from her mage kit, opening it. She uses its contents to draw a line around the edges of a good portion of the room (Elsa included.) Rosethorn leaves enough space to move one of the mattresses onto the floor for herself if Elsa's more comfortable sleeping in the wards on her own.

And then she closes the circle, feeling the magic snap into place and sending up a silent prayer that Elsa's magic stops at the barrier between them. It should. At least the difference will be easy to see, with all this snow falling.]

O-oh, all right...

[ Elsa nods in understanding and watches quietly as the other woman gets to work. It's a strange process to her, but she finds herself hoping that it will work. If it does... Well, that's one less thing for her to be worried about, at least when it comes to the roommates situation.

Once the ward is sealed, the change is immediate. Instead of snowing in the whole bedroom, the snow is contained to the inside of the ward, and the temperature on Rosethorn's side returns to normal. Honestly, Elsa's shocked that it worked, but pleased. A relieved smile crosses her face, and the snow on her side of the ward lightens again as her anxiety begins to ease. ]

It worked. [ She glances around the inside of the ward, and then back at Rosethorn. ] I can't believe it worked. I've never found anything that stopped my magic before.

[Rosethorn tries to keep any surprise or satisfaction from being too obvious. After all, this is exactly what she said her wards were supposed to do, and she was hoping to keep the possibility of failure from making Elsa more anxious. For all she knew, Elsa's magic was different enough from hers that her own wards wouldn't recognize it.

But that smile, the sheer, giddy relief written across Elsa's face as the snow starts to ease... it's nice to see.]

It's good, that your magic's close enough to what I'm used to for my wards to recognize it. I can try training you the same way I've trained every other student I've had. There's a good chance it will help, and I certainly don't think it would do you any harm.
