Well, cryogenics has to do with studying how materials work and behave in very low temperatures. In this particular case, cryostasis is a method through which you preserve living tissue through cryopreservation, aiming it to be a reversible process. In simpler terms, you... freeze living biological objects, and you can unfreeze them later on without killing them. Like people. That's what the cryostasis pods are for.
