I don't thing any Emperor was that upset about a woman not producing a male heir, mostly because I don't think it ever was a problem. Dorca the Just got to be Emperor through the female line, but everyone liked him.

( and it didn't extend to his granddaughters or their sons, although now that Ivan thinks about it he's not quite sure why. maybe great uncle Piotr didn't want to be regent for an Emperor Aral after the murder of his family. it's not like Ivan's dad had any say in the matter, being a year old at the time. )
