Hello -- I suppose this is a bit of an introduction? I'm a new arrival so I thought it might be a good idea to put myself out on the network.

My name is Yuuri Wakasa and I'm from Japan -- it's an island on Earth. Having to be that specific is a bit strange! But everything about all this is a bit strange. I'm doing my best to get used to it, though!

I think the best way to get settled is to find myself some work, so I thought I'd ask the people who've been here longer than I have as I'm sure you've all had more experience job hunting than I have!

I'm leaning towards farming work, since I've got plenty of agriculture experience but I'm sure I could put myself to just about anything that needs doing. Or at the very least, I can try and learn! But apart from farming, is there any work that would be a good fit for a newcomer?

I'd like to hear about the places you all came from if that's not rude to ask, as well. It should be interesting to hear, at least!

It isn't just a bit strange. It's utterly bizarre. Then again, anything to do with magic or space or whatever this nonsense is is always bizarre. I might even be able to say that bizarre is mundanely normal in itself. We'll all grow used to it or we'll all grow mad, I expect.

Does your family run a farm where you're from? What sort of things do you grow?

It's good to know I'm not the only one! The furthest we've gotten back home with manned space travel is the moon and that was some time ago. So as you can imagine, all this was a bit of a shock.

[ The lack of zombies was honestly the bigger shock but she has the sense to keep that off the network for now. ]

I haven't been in charge of a farm persay, but I've been in charge of a vegetable garden we used to supplement our food stores -- it's our only available source of fresh vegetables so keeping it thriving's an important task. I'm mostly self-taught but I think I should be able to keep up with some of the agricultural work here so long as I'm shown the basics.

And yes, they're very dear friends of mine. I'm hoping if they're here, they might spot this but I haven't seen them around just yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, though. We could just be missing each other.

You are certainly not the only one. I'd never even heard of anything like traveling to the moon. I still don't quite understand and believe it, but I've seen other things just as unbelievable before.

I know nothing about growing plants. But I've a cousin who grows herbs and other sorts of things in his workrooms. Do you only grow them for eating? Or for medicines, or other things? I imagine you'll not have a problem finding someone who wishes to eat a vegetable.

Well. Or maybe you will, if it's children. But I don't expect you'll be selling to children. I wouldn't mind a pumpkin.

If they're here, they're likely to spot your message. You're watching it for signs of them, aren't you? They ought to be doing the same. And if they're not here, then perhaps they will be, or you'll return to see them soon.

Farm work can be difficult. It is exhausting and can require labour.

There seems to be many jobs that are similar to those on Earth. Perhaps you should venture there, first.

There is a whole distract that is for farming. They seem to always be looking for help.

Last month I helped out doing some menial jobs? But they paid well enough, all thing considered. I think little jobs like that pop up, if you don't want something full time or just another one to help supplement.

Actually I'm from Japan as well. Yokosuka. My name is Kazuhira Miller. [Western order to the name, because 'Miller' is so very American.]

I opened my own business but I do know some people that chose to live on farms. Settling there didn't seem to pose much of an issue to them.

Just for eating and storage, for the most part. I'm fairly sure I'd be able to grow anything that was needed so long as I knew what it needed -- it's just a matter of planting and being diligent about caring for what grows. As long as I'm growing some good quality produce, I might be able to make a profit out of whatever comes out.

[ Within reason, of course. But there's no point in being pessimistic about it before she's even planted anything. ]

Do you think, if they're not here already, they might be soon? With how recently I've gotten here myself, I would've thought it would be a little easier to find where it was I'd come from.

[ That actually gives her pause for a moment. She hasn't had to think all that hard about what she likes to do in a while and it takes her an embarrassing amount of time to come up with a response -- and even then it's sort of a cop out. ]

I suppose I don't mind doing organizational work, admin work... that sort of thing? I can cook as well, but I imagine there's more than enough cooks around in a group this big. But I'm happy to try anything that needs doing.

I wouldn't particularly mind -- it'd be much harder than the kind of gardening and harvesting I've been doing back home but starting somewhere I've got a bit of experience seems like it might be the better idea.

Then again, getting in over my head and having to duck out as soon as I start wouldn't be the best first impression, would it? I'll see if there's anywhere a bit less intensive I can start out at while I settle in.

What would you suggest?

I think finding somewhere you are comfortable and explaining that you intend to do your best is all that can be asked of you. Find something you are familiar with and start with something that does not require more than you are able to give. If you feel as though you are a suitable gardener or harvester then investigate the farms - I am sure some would not turn down extra help.

Yes, I'm sure you'll have little trouble. Food tends to be in high demand.[ a joke. but she isn't wrong, either. ] Come to think of it, I've no idea the sorts of produce that grow in this place. Perhaps it's different, or it's all done in greenhouses.

They might be here soon. Or they might not be. And even then, there's no telling how long you or they will stay. [ This isn't really an answer, and it isn't comforting, and Katsa knows it. But no point in pretending otherwise. ] I spent years in another world once, and though someone I knew appeared there as well, he never stayed long. But others stay.

There's no telling; only that you can hope to see them, and you'll not be wrong to hope, but it isn't a sure thing.
