[ technically, andyr's been here for over a year, and still not properly addressed the network wholesale, as most do within their first week or so. in real time, time he can actually remember, it's been more like four months, but either way, he's only been around on the MIDs when jumping into other posts, yet to actually introduce himself, hermit of a vent crawling stalker that he's been.

and guess what, this still isn't introducing himself. instead, it's some odd wooden token that he's holding up to the camera, two snakes intertwined on it. ]

This showed up in my mailbox. Belong to anyone?

[ please tell him he just ended up with someone else's mail by accident, as otherwise this just feels creepy as all fuck. ]

Or anyone recognize it? Does crap like this happen a lot? [ andyr sighs, flipping the token over in his hand, lips pressed in a line as he frowns at it, muttering under his breath. ] Don't want none of this freaky, voodoo shit.

Maybe it's currency on some planet. Maybe on some world you just struck it rich.

[ That's the optimistic way of thinking of it. She can't help but think there might be 'freaky, voodoo shit' involved, especially now that Andyr mentioned it. Of course she's not going to mention it. That would just be mean. ]

Or it could be good at warding off moths. Does it smell like cedar?

Why would you have mail that isn't yours?

It's not familiar to you in any way?

You should document it as much as possible. It came from the Ingress... it could mean something in the future.

It looks like the kind of thing my friend collects. [Something from one of Gansey's many boxes of trinkets.]

[ considering he isn't even that interested in being rich, why would someone else care? but who knows, maybe. at the moth comment, andyr's brows arch a bit, before he glances at the coin against suspicious, and gently... takes a sniff. ]

a month or so back someone i know ended up getting a book i had back home in the mail. told me it just showed up in his mailbox.

[ The round of cursing he'd done when he saw this meant that he was late on actually doing something useful; like responding to Andyr. ]

Document it how? It's just a little wooden circle with snakes on it. Not a lot to it. [ there's a reason he was mostly just coffee fetcher for the ingress journal party. ]

[ Sorry for the lack of ... well, words to be honest, Andyr but there is something of a small scale chaos happening on the ship.

And now this damn coin. The Ingress hates him. ]

ok. 5 minutes.

[ the coin isn't his and he has zero reason to hold onto it, so may as well take it now.

about 5 minutes later, andyr will be slipping through the Lab 1 door, token in hand. ]

Hey. Got your coin thing.

[ The Medbay was humming with a sense of urgency.

Though no one raced around, the techs on duty were definitely busy and spared Andyr only the briefest nods. More lights were on than was usually the case and as promised, Adrien was in Lab 1.

Courser was the first to notice Andyr's approach, the bahari was laying behind his companion's work stool, but he stood up when he saw Andyr. Just, rather than bounding playfully towards the young man, the tracker gave a friendly flick of his tail as he primly folded it across his paws.

The serious atmosphere affecting him as well.

Adrien was studying something through a microscope. The microscope was carefully placed beneath an enclosed hood and the doctor's hands carefully double gloved. ]

Stay where you are. [ He said, quickly but not sharply. ] Give it to Courser.

[ At the sound of his name, and a motion from Adrien's elbow, the bahari straightened up and padded over to Andyr, baring his wicked looking teeth in anticipation of the coin. ]

I did not even know we could get mail in space.

Just looks like somethin' somebody carved. Kinda pretty, actually. Why are ya callin' it freaky?

Well, the images you've shown us here are a start. Someone in engineering or medical might be willing to get precise measurements for you.

It's probably irrelevant now, unless it properly belongs to someone else or is something you might see in your own future, but if it isn't one of those, it could turn out to be relevant later. Intertwined snakes are a caduceus, the staff of Hermes... but more to the point, we're historically unpopular with people who call themselves the Caducans. I'd see more of a connection if the coin were made of glass, but even so....

yeah, comes through the ingress. weird shit. i got a fuck ton of fish and tanks a while back through it. no idea why.

The snakes, I guess. And it showing up outta nowhere. I dunno, just creeps me out.

[ Well, isn't this a puzzle? And she does like puzzles. She scratches her eyebrow as she thinks it over. ]

[ it takes a moment for andyr to get back to him, as he pauses to get this figured out with adrien. ]

[ adrien arbuckal is a friend - one of the very few andyr would admit to having, and one of the people he's been most open with on this ship since arriving here. something about him being the first one to be so decent as to give him a choice about his medical conditions and the disclosure of them gives him a certain level of trust and regard in andyr's mind.

that understood, it comes as a sort of sting that he seems to be telling him to stay away at the moment. at least, it's how andyr's taking it at first, something surprisingly stinging in hearing it, as he looks down at Courser, waiting for the coin. ]

Are you handling some kinda freak space virus, or is this thing supposed to mean I'm not allowed to walk near you anymore?

[ he doesn't hand it over yet, token still curled in his hand. ]

The former. [ Adrien responded without hesitation and in a grim tone. ]

I've got these samples as secure as I can manage but you're safer at a distance.

[ Perhaps not the most reassuring response, and can we just ignore the protective tinge to that last sentence as well? ]

You don't like snakes? Lots of stuff just shows up 'round here. This place is weird.
