Once the glass that enclosed the Tree--and us--shattered, it turned into portals that led to all the worlds everyone had come from. They seemed straightforward enough, just step through the right one and we'd be wherever we wanted to go. Some people even tested it out. They reported that moving between the worlds was easy, and there was no problem coming back if we wanted to.
I should have known it wasn't going to be that simple.
