I thought maybe you'd meant you're the consciousness of a human being placed in a robot body. Ha ha, sorry about that! In my world humans having been trying for decades to transplant the true human consciousness into a machine, but attempts so far have been largely unsuccessful. I bet they'd get a real kick out of you!

So, what made you want to be a robot?

[Mettaton shakes his head, perhaps in a slightly overexaggerated manner that sets his hair askew. He laughs, brushing his bangs back over his busted eye and the exposed circuitry around it before speaking again.]

No, no!! I'm not a human at all!! I never was!!! But you know, I can understand how that is something humans aspire to create!! I am pretty great!

...Hmm. What made me want to be a robot? It's simple!! Ghosts like me always aspire to possess a body and become corporeal!! I just didn't want to follow in my family's footsteps and possess a training dummy! I mean...gross, right?! So I had a friend help me out and make me a body I liked!!

[None of this makes any logical sense! But that's okay. Rocky has come to accept that lots of things he encounters don't seem logical.]

I'd say that's definitely an improvement! I wouldn't want to be a training dummy either, getting beaten up all the time... And— [He raises an animated eyebrow.] I really doubt a training dummy could pull off boots like those.
