Okay, so. I have some matters I'd like to bring up. If you've not met me, I'm Doc Yewll. I'm not always going to be nice to you but I will try to fix what's wrong with you. There are other doctors that have more patience than me, refer to them if you have to.

On to business.

The Med Bay still needs some repair. I'd say with a little help everything could be up and running within a few days but it does mean people with technical parts and anyone in need of surgery are going to hold off for treatment. Useful salvage to that end would be a miracle.

Also that station's infirmary has a neat trick of offering up complete medical histories. If you would be willing, please send me what you can of yours privately. I'm not going to sneak around and try to get it, but if I have a complete medical run down it means I can better help you in the future if related problems come up. Just don't grab anyone else's if that's the case. Just yours. I want absolute information consent here.

On a practical level it's not worth worth risking moral outrage at the expense of others health. Right now I have a good network of people set up to help me try to help a lot of my patients. If I lose that then they're at risk. So I'm leaving it at a "help us help you."

A lot of us are going to learn things we have no right to during this operation. [it'd be a wrench not to act if a serious problem is revealed, but the ownership of one's body and bodily information is a core principle on Beta as well -- the mountainous paperwork process back home wasn't for nothing.] In case it comes up, what about the children?

The children here are expected to do the work of an adult, make decisions of adults. Maybe they can ask for advice, but they'll have to make the choice for themselves.

They'll get the same privacy as everyone else.

Sadly the Ingress didn't bring anyone's legal guardians. Unless someone makes a move that the kids choose a guardian here? It's how it's gotta be.

Not all decisions, surely. [wryly] Even my planet doesn't allow someone to elect for a co-parenting contract before puberty, for example.

I know we have an officer on the ship who performs caretaking tasks -- Toriel, one of the Underground people. She's.... [looking it up on their MID] ...the Underaged Crew Caretaking Officer. Would she fill that role?

I don't think so.

Once in Defiance, for the good of everyone there was a movement to inoculate all of the children against various diseases. Only one particular race, the Iraths, don't believe in it. So when they refused, lawkeepers were sent to make them.

There were shootouts. A good portion of our Irathant population died. The rest became nomads.

Randomly assigning someone a role doesn't give them the cultural sensitivity or awareness that someone needs to make those decisions on behalf of a child of a completely different world. As far as I'm concerned, Toriel's job will be to teach these children how to make decisions on their own, not to make the decisions for them.
