First transmission; video

[It would seem that someone has just been handed a copy of the welcome guide -- and instructed on a few basics, or he wouldn't know how to transmit this video -- and it would seem, also, that he is not entirely impressed by what he found in the guide. The video is just wide enough of an angle to show what appears to be a smear of blood on his shirt.]

It's nice. Someone clearly put a lot of work into it. It's not exactly helpful though, is it?

[It seems to have glossed over quite a few things, or ignored them entirely.]

For instance, for all the trouble it goes to to tell us where we are now, it says nothing about how we get home again.

[He'd really like to get back there. He's got people to kill things to do.]

Or even how we got here. Which is what I'd really like to know.

You're probably going to want to make yourself comfortable. Or, at the very least, be uncomfortable but make some allies until we can get back to where we all came from.

So what does sound appealing? Aside from finding out how to get back, or finding out how we got here?

It's pretty much just those two things.

Nice to meet you, despite the -- circumstances. [She knows about aliases. She knows A LOT about them, but whether the start of what he was about to say was the alias, or if "Erik Lehnsherr" is the alias, she has no obvious idea. But that's just something for her to put on a back burner and maybe wonder more about later.]

At least you're to the point. [People who don't bullshit around are alright in her book.] I'm not a seasoned veteran of this place or anything, but I think the best you might get from those who are is a history of what's been happening since they've arrived. Which means, yeah, not all of us have been here the same amount of time.

I don't see the point in wasting time. [It never gets anyone anywhere, for one thing. Might as well just go ahead and do whatever needs to be done.]

So not everyone arrives at the same time then. Whatever is doing this has the capability to bring people here but not to send them back again?

So far it's that way, yeah. I was also told by a friend of mine when I first arrived here that I had been here previously -- but, I have no such memory. Which is more than a little disconcerting ... but I have no reason to distrust the person who told me that, so I don't doubt that I was actually here before.

If you were here before, you also went home before. So it is possible.

I went somewhere -- said friend just said "lost on the Ingress" which I kind of took to mean more like somewhere on that ship. [Where she may or may not have had her memories wiped or something?? Still disconcerting.] It didn't sound much like home.

But still, two-way travel is theoretically possible. Which is something, at least.

That's fair enough. [A short nod.] Anyone ever tell you you're optimistic, Mr. Lehnsherr? [Not that there's much wrong with that. Her tone at least conveys as such.]

No, actually. I don't recall anyone ever saying that about me.

First time for everything? [Not that she'd expected an answer to begin with, and her question is more to make a point than to get another answer.]

What kind of a run down on this place have you gotten from other people? [She'd offer more actual help if she could, but would hate to repeat things.]

There's no way home, and no one seems to trust the locals much.

[At the very least, they seem to believe they're being deceived in some way.]

That's good advice, and about the sum of it. [She's a proponent of looking over one's shoulder.] Some places are also better than others to get permanent housing in, depending on what you're looking for.

What do you mean?

Like terrain, resources, locations? Not that people can't travel between them, but a home base is nothing to skimp out on.

I suppose there are also fewer of the better places, too.
